  • I have this unit's baby brother, the q700b, and while it's good I wished I'd spent a bit more and picked up something with wireless rear speakers.

    • I am sure you can add rear speakers to q700 , i got q870 recently and its technically q700 + 9500s rear speakers.
I agree rear speakers make a big difference to the sound stage.

      • Yes the q990b I bought is awsome!

    • i too got the q700, but for me i wish i went the q800 for the sub and side firing speakers on the bar. the q700 was lacking enough for me that we moved it to our second TV and picked up the q990b. we dont use the rears but that bigger sub makes ALL the difference.

Having got both this and the 990b, I'd agree that if you can stretch up to a set with the rears included (I think the 990b is still ~1.3k on TGGC), it's quite worth while. And even if you don't have the space, the rears are able to be used as additional fronts (and sound really good / expansive in this mode too). But understand that almost +$500 from this is a lot of money too.

I think the 800b is still very good, especially at this price. My only small gripe would be that the sub whilst fine, is a noticeable step down to one that comes the 990b, for depth or responsiveness.

Also, have had good experiences when purchasing through Powerland (had bought a 55" C1 through them).

    • What kind of stands or mounts are you using for rears?
I am kinda struggling right now with mounting

I have a wall just behind so was able to use this one for rear https://www.selby.com.au/tv-brackets-stands/speaker-brackets…

        • Cool Selby is in thornbury, will pay a visit and pick up
          Cheers!!

      • Oh, I got these from a Ozb recommendation on one of the 990b deals https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D14BNV5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_… they're a bit pricey, but are quality pieces of kit that nicely include the holding screw specific to the Samsung rears.

        • Mate i am looling for similar stands for q930b. Are these good?

        • They roughly come up to 200$ :(
Thats a lot for hanging rears, even the cost of rears is around same :)

        • Yup, they are a lot, but I was quite satisfied with the quality for the money, and the way my mind thought of them were as keepers (i.e. even beyond the life of the speakers themselves).

There were cheaper alternatives given in the 990b threads (I think from Selby too), but am personally happy I went with the Mounting Dreams

  • If you can spend a bit more get the Q930b - you won't be disappointed

  • I have the older q900t model and constantly have HDMI/earc handshake issues resulting in no audio. I have to turn on/off unit or tv, switch inputs, and even tried different cables. I never had this issue with my older Yamaha soundbar.

    • I had the same problem with the same model. Not sure where I saw it but there was a setting (either on TV or SB) to keep the power on at all times (i.e. SB not switching off when I turn my tv off) and that solved my issue of HDMI/earc losing connection.

      • Sounds like you'd have to disable CEC? Can you control the soundbar volume with the TV remote still?

        • Yeap. Any volume change done on TV remote changes volume on SB. (i.e. volume number on soundbar LCD goes up or down)

This or the Sony HT-G700? I am connecting to a Sony TV if that makes a difference.

    • My samsung q990b is working well with sony x90h over eARC. There is something extra sync options that you get with a Samsung TV which is not present. Otherwise, no issues
