Boycotting Banggood Retailer for Not Honouring Warranty - A Warning to All

G'day All,

I thought I take the time to express my dissatisfaction with the business Banggood. In short back in July 2021, I bought a Fengmi 1080p LED projector during sale for $370 USD ~ $550 AUD, and within a year it had failed. I contacted customer support via an online ticket, they're asked to upload a video onto Youtube as proof. Till this day they have not responded to that thread originally created and I had to contact customer service via email on numerous times to follow up on the status on my repair request.

As the item is not common in Australia, I was told to find a local repairer and provide Banggood with the quote to fix the projector. I've found that no one here is familiar with the brand or have spares available for repairs. The latest email I received today offered me 75 USD as a refund for my troubles.

A quick search through OzBargain Forum section and I found another case of Banggood not honouring their own warranties as mentioned on their website.
I have to say the process has been slow and frustrating to say the least. I originally opened the case in July and it is now Sept. I no longer want to support an organisation that treats their customers in such a manner.

I started this forum to spread the message and to hear other stories people may have regarding Banggood and warn future customers who think that they are covered under their warranties. I hope this forum is helpful and makes you reconsider your purchase from Banggood.

Does anyone have any advice that may help me in this situation?

I've bought many items from Banggood and AliExpress (ie. China), but with all, I've pretty much bought with the expectation that I'm buying at 'risk'.

Not saying that what they've done to you is correct or not, just suggesting for you to manage expectations such that when things go wrong like they have, that it comes as no surprise when you get screwed.

Similar to Porker, when I buy from Banggood and other cheap overseas electronics retailers, I don't hold expectations of the item lasting or of filing a warranty claim.

Maybe a DOA item might be recoverable with a Paypal claim, but beyond that my attitude towards those retailers is that you get what you pay for.

Sucks in this situation, but I wouldn't keep your hopes up for an outcome and factor that into consideration when making purchases in future.

It's a shitty situation but it's a matter of buyer beware with internet purchases in general let alone one from overseas.

      Lesson learnt I guess

Buying cheap chinese item from a chinese company with no need to give warranty, then get surprised when you get no warranty. Amazing.

When you buy something from Banggood, aliexpress etc, you assume that you have no warranty, and buy based on that.

    • +3

With that attitude those companies never need to change

      • +6

They will never change. No need to

This is one reason to pay the 'Australia Tax' on pricey items - government enforced warranties ensure (usually) satisactory customer service and claims.

Banggood gets my cheap purchases of bulk electronics parts under $2 each, since if one of the five devices is DOA I'm still ahead of the $10 local RRP for one item.

    • Too bad we're paying for GST for many of those stores. I'd be surprised if GST is being collected.

      Thanks Gerry…

        Banggood Collects GST…

        • oh oops. I meant collected by the gov

①Full refund and a new replacement are not available for more than 15 days after receipt.
②Customers need to contact our technical team and cooperate to test. If the problem is not solved, Banggood will arrange a replacement or refund you. However, if customers are unable to help us with troubleshooting, replacement or full refund are not available.

Seems you are getting what you signed up for. You can't find someone to troubleshoot and they have washed their hands of it.

I agree with the sentiment though, don't spend money there if you aren't happy.

      Customer hasn't refused to cooperate

if customers are unable to help

Yes, but they weren't able to help.

        • Sorry customer, you aren't an electronic engineer, guess you can't help, warranty DENIED!

  • I thought I take the time to express my dissatisfaction with the business Banggood. In short back in July 2021,

LOL Dude come on, thats 14 months ago. The only 'warranty' these sites offer is that it is working on arrival.

I've found that no one here is familiar with the brand or have spares available for repairs.

To be fair, I've never heard of that brand either.

The latest email I received today offered me 75 USD as a refund for my troubles.

Take it and run. The link you listed to has no warranty terms listed, Banggood is a overseas company, no ACCC laws apply.

    • I contacted them at the 11 month mark, due to their speedy customer service it's now 14 months later.

      • +2

Even 11 months… Warranty overseas isn't the same as warranty in Australia. Some places like the USA at one point only offer 3 months on xbox controllers brand new!

Regardless take the $75USD and run, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Are you sure it is a genuine Fengmi, not a cheap knock off? /S

As others have said, the reason things cost a lot more in Australia is things like warranty. You could possibly take it to cellphone repairer, who would likely have the skills to diagnose the problem if it is an electrical fault - but they will want to be paid and you are already well behind on this deal.

    • +7

Are you suggesting it could be a Ferengi?

      • +1

        I hope people get this.

      • -1

        could be a Ferengi

These are out of this world !!!

  • Yeah it's a lesson learnt the hard way, won't be buying anything pricey there anytime soon :)

  • Yeah are treading very carefully around Aliexpress/banggood/chinese suppliers now.

First i had an electrical pump fail after 3 months which they deemed outside of warranty, then blocked me. Escalated through aliexpress and they didn't want to hear about it.
Next one sent through completely the incorrect watch, opened a dispute which they then immediately closed as resolved.
Had to go through Aliexpress to reopen it, they complained and once again tried to close the appeal.
Luckily finally got a return address out of them after constantly complaining and sent it back. 3 months later and i finally received my money less the return freight cost.
Then had to open up another appeal to get the return freight out of them. Absolute shambles.

When you buy anything from any overseas website they are not subject to Australia's laws and regulations.

Warranty in that matter is subjective, technically they should honor what they say on their site, but legally they can do whatever they want.

You should probably take the partial refund.

  • I bought alot of electronics from them and i havent had any issues yet 👌🏿

When I buy from AliExpress or anyone similar I pretty much figure I get a 7 day warranty and that's about it. If I need to be sure, I buy from Amazon or local.

  • Lesson learnt?

Bangood are evil. Bought a winter coat several years ago. Arrived wet,and stank like sewer water. Unpacked it and it was covered in white mould.I presume the warehouse was flooded. Contacted support and was told it wasn't there problem and that I should wash it (it was far beyond that). No recourse, gaurantees or warranties. They even went out of there way to get a rise out of me. For gadety shit I still use Aliexpress, and once you get used to Asian sizing I've had a few great clothing buys knowing that the supplier doesn't get paid if I'm not happy with the purchase. Bangood has no such safe guards. Use Aliexpress for gadgety shit but if you want something a little pricier always buy from an Australian supplier. Might be a little more expensive but if you're spending big you want to make sure you have a valid warranty. Expensive lesson learn't I'm afarid.

    • Yeah I used to think Banggood was better than AliExpress but at least they have the guarantee.

Try messaging the rep on here. I had an issue with a faulty product and customer service were useless. I messaged the rep and explained the issue, they spoke to the right people and I ended up getting a partial refund.

    • I'll give it a go, thanks.

    • How do you find who is a rep on here? Is there a way to search?

      • +1

Username was banggood when I messaged them last.

Banggood also laid off a heap of staff recently. They're not making profit currently.

  • Yeah I am having a similar experience right now and after a quick search it seems pretty common over the internet. Bought an RC as gift for my son for Christmas, arrived faulty. Contacted them within a day, took photo's video's, jumped through all their hoops. They acknowledge multiple faults, yet will not send parts to repair using the common line everyone seems to get, to find a local repairer and get a quote, they would pay for it. I did that and they say the quote is too much, they won't pay it. I send them the list of parts to get from their manufacturer direct as they will pay a few % compared to here, still refuse. I ask for a refund and they tell me they will repair it, then again refuse to pay. I have finally asked for a refund or to ship item again and they have gone quiet, no response anymore. I have initiated a chargeback with my CC company, hopefully I can get my money back. Never again would I use them, their website touts all these guarantees, DOA policies, warranties, refunds, repairs. It is all just smokes and mirrors. Unless you are buying parts for a few $$ I wouldn't bother with them ever again.

    • I wonder if they could be excluded from selling in Australia as they do not follow through with warranty policies.

  • I tried to make 1 purchase through banggood. Cancelled the order. Their customer service is utter garbage. Once the refund is processed i'm closing the account and deleting their app. Aliexpress is mediocre but looks like 5 star service in comparison.

  • Similar experience. Every opportunity they will denied any warranty.

  • OP Can you share the product you bought? It seems Banggood removed the product you reviewed.
