but RBA said we should stop spending money.

    • +1

This is not money, these are free vouchers

      • +6

$50 voucher to use towards the cost of accommodation bookings.

Do you plan on paying for the remainder of the cost of accommodation with the value of a lively jig?

        • +10

I will be paying the remainder with an interpretative dance.

          • @xoom: Put your clothes back on! Only Mastercard, Visa, and Amex accepted

            • +3

@tharlow: Damn. Was just about to offer an alternative payment. A hand drawn spider.

              • +1

@xoom: USD$10000 for a meme… not bad! But you do realise you have to come up with your own original meme, and can’t just piggyback on an existing one, right?

    • +2

If you read between the lines, the RBA admitted that even if they raise interest rates higher, it will make no difference to rich Australians’ buying habits. And there are more rich Australians than ever before, thanks to the precipitous rise of inequality…

Basically, the RBA’s hands are tied. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t

      • +3

The government should just raise taxes across the board to pay off some of this debt instead of raising interest rates. At least it will help reduce some of this deficit.

        • +1

It’s a nice sentiment, but raising taxes means a correspondingly greater interest in “tax minimisation” — an apparently legal process involving great creativity, and a large legal team (just ask Apple).

So, the net effect is zero (almost inconceivable, I know!)

          • +2

@tharlow: Apple is a problem in USA, where lobbyists design the tax system to be exploited on purpose by those who have the administration capacity.
We, on average have more income from corporations than USA thanks to limited lobbying power.

Shangri-La Sydney can only accept 1 voucher per booking.

    • Even if there's multiple guests?

For a different data point, Meriton Suites Kent St were happy to accept multiple vouchers (one per guest) back in March.

      • I have confirmation from Meriton Nth Sydney they will accept multiple vouchers (one per guest) for an upcoming booking this week.

      • +2

To add, West Hotel Sydney by Hilton also accepted multiple vouchers (Only 2 of us staying, used 4). Paid a whopping $11 on my last stay.

    • +4

That's rough. Many hotels accept multiple vouchers. If you don't like it go and stay somewhere else. Plenty of other accommodations near The Rocks area

      Four seasons
      Rydges Sydney Harbour
      Marriot Sydney Harbour
      Park Hyatt
      The Sebel Quay West

      just to name a few

      • *That's rough buddy.

    • That's a bit crappy.

We're going away in November and a place we're staying at accepted as many vouchers as we could give them.

The same went for a trip down to Lake Conjola we took about a month ago.

If you've got the vouchers, places are more than happy to redeem them.

  • +3

It's strange that you would offer a "stay voucher" for residents only.. Wouldn't you want to entice travel to the state?

    • +1

Most states only offered deals like this to their own state residents to encourage intrastate travel (or in my case, staycations in the city). The only programs I'm aware of that were available to non-residents was one round of Great State accommodation vouchers for SA which was drawn as a ballot, and the Victorian Entertainment and Dining Program (which is back as of today)

      • The Victorian program is available to all holders of bank accounts in Australia.

        • +2

Hence why I mentioned it as being available to non-residents.

Perfect timing for me; eating at Gimlet next week 😁

        • So if I live in nsw, I can still get the Victorian vouchers? Nice !

          • @dammit: They're not vouchers, it's a 25% rebate. And yes.

          • @dammit: You will get the Victoria rebates if you spend in Victoria

    • The voucher is tax payer funded. So you will essentially use up nsw residents tax money for non nsw residents.

      • The whole scheme is farcical. They told businesses to close down. Now they want to pay customers to go and use the businesses as compensation?

Not quite. Just debt and more debt.

    • considering the voucher is from NSW government ….assume they want spending in NSW help NSW tourism not other states

      • Exactly.. Bring your money from other states and spend it in nsw.. Isn't that what you want?

  • +3

I find it interesting how the two states of NSW and Victoria are both trying to stimulate their economies, but in different ways.

    • Different subjects enjoy different stimulations… or so I’m told

    • Nsw and vic are always in competition.

    • +3

      Username checks out.

      • +2

More important thing to ask is, does your username check out?

  • +2

My account has been telling me for months that my details don't match. They do. I've checked. I tried to call them and spent 90 minutes on hold and ended up giving up. Not sure what the problem is but jumping through hoops for a $50 voucher doesn't seem like an effective use of my time. I value what little sanity I have left. ;-)

    • +2

Have you tried updating your address (including postcode)?

    • +4

Yep I had this issue as well. My address was correct but it was formatted oddly in the Service NSW page online.

I re-submitted the same address and the format corrected itself and I was able to submit/apply instantly and got it within a few minutes. Partner had the same issue.

So update the address even if it hasn't changed. They're probably using a different system than when it was first input and it can't recognise the format

We did just a one-nighter over in Oberon (to visit Mayfield Gardens) and cost us 19 bucks ($119 -2x $50 dollar vouchers). Pretty sure my fuel cost more than the accomodation to get there from Sydney. XD

      • Same thoughts, everyone I knew had to re-type their address even though it was the exact same address and it worked a charm.

      • Thanks, worked perfectly. Nice one.

  • Note that many hotels allow you to stack up to 5 vouchers.

    • +1

You also need up to four other guests to stack up to five.

    • Which ones ? and can two guests stack 5 vouchers?

      • One voucher per guest… geddit?

    • Time to get the orgy crew back together.

  • +1

Hyatt Regency Sydney accepted multiple vouchers, per head though.

    • That's still expensive…it would have been great if they could allow more vouchers

  • Is this the original $50 stays that we got ages ago?
I dont see a new one

  • -2

    Already used

    • Your country thanks you!

      • +1

        You’re welcome!

    • +10

There already is a deal for that so it would be a dupe

    • There’s a public holiday this Thursday??!! Strange, I haven’t seen a deal post about it!?

  • Do you have to stay there before 9 Oct or can you just book smth before 9 Oct?

    • +3

Book and pay for before October 9.

      • What hotel accepts the pre-booking with stay NSW voucher?

    • you can redeem your voucher before 9 Oct and stay later

      • I don’t believe so based on the terms.

        • Yes you can, as long as you pre-pay for your accommodation before October 9

        • +1

          The terms says you can.

          • @Homr: When using a voucher at a Stay NSW business, it can be used:

            once only
            for an accommodation booking
7 days a week, including public holidays
            before 9 October 2022.

            https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/find-stay-nsw-vou…

The terms seem to say it must be used before 9oct, does used mean that it only needs to be redeemed though, so you can prepay and book a date beyond that? Has anyone actually done that?

            • @dammit: Yes, you need to book before 9 Oct, the accommodation site will redeem it on the day you book. I've booked and redeemed mine for our stay later in December.

              • @double_J: Who did you book with?

                • @alexshel: Check my below comment. I think you'll get better chance with park accommodations rather than 4-5 stars hotel.

            • @dammit: Yes. So you book your stay for a later date after 9th October, then tell the hotel to redeem the voucher as a deposit before the 9th October. Ta da!

              • @Homr: Not every hotel accepts this. I wonder how to find who accepts rather than contacting each individual hotel

    • -1

Can i use this voucher at a restaurant or supermarket?

      • This is for accommodation only and at participating establishments.

  • I was able to use mine a few months ago with booking done through Wotif (pay at the property). Better to check with the proprietor first, though.

    • +1

Yes, that is fine. I do the same with Expedia. You just can't use it on Wotif, Expedia, et al.

      • What websites can we use multiple vouchers then?

        • +1

          Don't ask me. I'm a solo traveller.

  • is there a list somewhere (in ozbargain or not) to identify which accomodations accept multiple vouchers?

    • Use the search function for Stay NSW vouchers; I’m sure you can find the link for that on Google

      • I dont see a way to filter by businesses that accept multiple vouchers though?

        • No such thing. Call businesses you're interested in and ask.

    • Yes Try this

      https://nswdnd.ngpriest.com/stay.php

Search also available for dine vouchers

      (Credit to @NGpriest)

      • +1

That also doesn't list businesses who take multiple vouchers, just businesses accepting them.

        • +1

          Oh yeh misread the q

  • I tried to use two, and the receptionist wrote down the codes, charged me full price, then said she used them. 🤔

    • Dodgy. Where was this? At the places I've stayed at in the city, the folio they issue clearly states a $50 discount, and I also confirm the price (less the voucher) while checking in.

      • Parramatta City Motel. The lady was nice, and she actually suggested using both of our vouchers, but she gave the impression we would get our discount after our stay.. then nothing happened. :/

        • Did you bring it up with them later?

  • +1

Any way to donate these to charity instead?

  • We booked 2 cabins/villas for 2 nights at the end of Dec for 2 families in 2 separate bookings. 1 booking used 6 vouchers ($300 value), the other one used parents voucher ($250 value), paid the remaining fee and split into 2.

If only using 1 or 2 vouchers for 1 night, it's really not worth the trip in my opinion. You can only check in after 2pm and have to check out by 10am the following morning.

    • What websites can we use multiple vouchers?

      • +1

Booking was over the phone. We booked here:

        https://capitalcountryholidaypark.com.au/

As long as it's the same type of voucher within 1 booking, you can use them. Hence we split into 2 separate booking.

Our parents vouchers were used to booked NRMA park this coming school holiday. Booking was completed few months ago though.

You need to email/ring them to confirm and book. Once booking is confirmed, you only need to email the voucher code.

  • How about the Parents voucher?
I dont know where to spend :-(

    • Read my comment above. You can also use parent voucher for attractions including movie if you don't want to use them for accommodation.

  • can it be used on agoda or other websites?

    • +1

No. Read the terms and conditions. You can use Agoda to book, pay at the hotel and use your voucher then

  • Anywhere to donate these? I recall you could donate the discover ones to children's charity

    • If this is the case. I am more than happy to donate mine to say ronald mcdonalds house.

    • +4

You could use them at the Walkabout Park Wildlife Sanctuary: https://fb.watch/fOgaNsusLU/

"If you're wondering what to do with your NSW Stay Vouchers and Parent Vouchers, we've got an idea… One $50 voucher buys you $50 of value AND we have $50 to pay the animals' feed and vet bills. So it's like doubling your money.
Exchange your Service NSW voucher with us for a gift voucher that you can use for entry, accommodation, snacks, souvenirs - pretty much anything. Here's how.
Email [email protected] and include your name, email, mobile number and all your voucher codes.
We'll email your gift vouchers back to you. AND 100% of what you spend with us is spent on the animals!
PLEASE don't leave it until the last day as we need time to process each request manually. We must process them before they expire and this takes time, so we're trying to avoid a last minute rush."

      • Yeah I just saw this too, cheers

      • It seems as those the Walkabout Park is no longer accepting the Stay vouchers. Anywhere else to use them ex accomodation?
