Preordered an iPhone last week from The Good Guys when orders opened, website and receipt listed "expected delivery by 16/9/22". Credit card already charged.
No update on my order on Friday, so rang them today and they said the stock "didn't come in" and someone "might call later in the week". Also the order date on my order got changed to 16/9/22; weird.
Is this normal behaviour from The Good Guys? I'm kicking myself for not ordering through JBHiFi or Apple directly and I'm no longer keen to give my business to TGG. Anyone had any experience with a refund/cancellation in a situation like this? I need a new phone (battery issues on my X) and dates are now blown out to November for delivery elsewhere.

It does happen unfortunately, not much they can do if their allocated stock didn't arrive for some reason or was damaged etc. You should be able to request a cancellation no problem.
Keep an eye on Apple's site, the expected dates do get better over time.
iPhone X battery replacement is very easy to do with a basic kit if that's a route you want to take. Done it myself, max 20 mins.
By the way JB HiFi and The Good Guys are the same company.
