Preordered Phone - Good Guys Didn't Deliver

Hey OzB,

Preordered an iPhone last week from The Good Guys when orders opened, website and receipt listed "expected delivery by 16/9/22". Credit card already charged.

No update on my order on Friday, so rang them today and they said the stock "didn't come in" and someone "might call later in the week". Also the order date on my order got changed to 16/9/22; weird.

Is this normal behaviour from The Good Guys? I'm kicking myself for not ordering through JBHiFi or Apple directly and I'm no longer keen to give my business to TGG. Anyone had any experience with a refund/cancellation in a situation like this? I need a new phone (battery issues on my X) and dates are now blown out to November for delivery elsewhere.

    It does happen unfortunately, not much they can do if their allocated stock didn't arrive for some reason or was damaged etc. You should be able to request a cancellation no problem.

    Keep an eye on Apple's site, the expected dates do get better over time.

    iPhone X battery replacement is very easy to do with a basic kit if that's a route you want to take. Done it myself, max 20 mins.

    By the way JB HiFi and The Good Guys are the same company.

        Yeah I read some people were well annoyed! I'm not here for sheep stations, just keen for a smooth process and decent customer service.

    • Yeah I get it happens and I'm pretty chill; just the lack of customer service threw me.

      I'm checking Apples site regularly - just need TGG refund before I can purchase elsewhere as I've only got a tiny CC because I cannot be trusted :)

      I've got a spinal injury with hand issues so self battery replacement is out for me now - quotes were over $100 which isn't bad but I'd rather keep my current phone at that rate. Damn I'm cheap :)

    • Funny I've never had one before, only hand me downs; I wouldn't know that feeling! I'm back in hospital for next op soon so wanted something with battery life to help keep me amused. I'm thinking organising a replacement battery for my X might be enough now theres no expected date for my order :)

    Amazing, you could have got it a whole month before the rest of the world

  • Why not just buy a 3m or 5m long cable and you are good to go ?

    • Yeah I've got a 3m one but somehow I always end up tied up in the IV lines with it or someone will move the overway and the phone ends up on the floor. A new battery in my phone should help though :)

      chuckles my money back would be nice; I've now been on hold for over an hour to their customer service :)

  • Ok order cancelled; took over an hour waiting on hold but the rep was lovely and helpful; am guessing they're slammed.

    Hopefully my money is refunded within 5 business days as they've promised.

          Damn, you are spot on! I didnt know there was a shortage and I called JB Hi Fi up and they told me no ETA. Even tho my email says 2-10 days for delivery after 16th. I thought I ordered in time…

          Ill probably stick with my order as no point reordering elsewhere. All that will do is reset the queue.

    I had the same issue with an Apple Watch from JB on pre-order, looks like they're all struggling for day one stock this year.

    I managed to find stock at another store on Saturday and transfer the order, maybe try and ring around to see if anyone has stock available to buy now. Most likely a lot more difficult with phones however, as they're more popular.

    • Phones will be near impossible. There was one guy that was sort of helpful and told me all the colours and storage options were in demand for the 14 pro max…

      But its not only JB thats facing this issue. Every retailer is

      • It’s in regards to Apple stock, we can only sell what we get and with the highest demand in comparison to the past couple years (at least in telco) it definitely doesn’t help, we are now looking at the end of oct and people are happy waiting for them becuase they want a particular colour.

    Oh, for dog's sake, 16/9/2022 wasn't the GUARANTEED delivery day, it was just the EXPECTED delivery date. Today is only the next business. You can't call it some sort of disastrous failure on the part of a retailer when product they were told by the wholesaler was expected to get to them on a particular date missed that exact date.

    • In my case, JB sent me an email saying my order will be delivered 2-10 days after 16th. But i had a weird feeling that it wasn't even shipped. I called them today and they told me that my order was impacted and I should've received an email apologizing for the delay.

      I'll probably still stick with it as I have a far better chance of getting it in 2-3 weeks rather than placing a new order elsewhere and expected delivery of December 1st

  • Same here. I bought the gift card for this so cant even cancel the order.. they say it’s gonna be another 2-3 weeks wait to get the stock.. their customer service is very disappointing and no communication what so ever.

      which gift card and how many did u use? All in store? I have TCN gift cards so not sure whether I can use those to place an order. Thanks

      • the good guys gift card I got from shopback. Just one card for the full amount of the phone.
