$500 Worth of Postage Stamps for $350, $200 for $150 + Shipping @ Perforated Stamps

160

Was browsing for discounted stamps online and came across these:

There's also a $50 for $40 offer + $5.50 shipping (or 9% off), but generally there's better deals available through coupon stacking on eBay.

For those interested, I ended up purchasing from a third-party seller on eBay, using the AFTPAY offer to bring the price of $20 worth of stamps to $12.20, or 39% off (unfortunately the official Australia Post eBay store was ineligible for the offer).

Hmmm - good luck with this one.

I have bought from them before. Never had any issues. You do get a bundle of different denomination stamps though, so it takes a couple of seconds extra everytime you need to post (depending on how quick your math is).

Aren't stamps legal tender? A bus driver would have to accept that as currency.

    • +7

      maybe in prison

    • Which buses still take cash payments?

      • +5

Well if they don't you can report them while you're walking home.

        • +6

At least you'll have the postage to mail the strongly written complaint letter.

      • +1

        They do in Perth

      That's a myth. No they're not

legitimate question, what do people use 10¢ stamps for?

    • +1

Either using them with the $1 stamps, or just using 11 on an envelope. Looks weird, but can save you some money :)

    • +1

To make up from lesser denomination issues mainly. Such as businesses who buy tons of stamps at a time and then there is a price rise. e.g. when we went from $1 to $1.10.

  • I can't remember the last time I posted something!

I can tell you exactly when it was for you. 10:08pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.

Selling $500 AUD worth of Australian postal stamps for $350. I'll have to question whether these stamps are actually legit. What's the chance that these are not real postal stamps but counterfeit stamps.

And look at the About page, supposedly run by some graphic designer, yeah right. And look at the Contact page with no phone number, no address, just a contact us form with an email address at the bottom. He doesn't want to be able to be located. There's no way that this store is selling legit non counterfeit postal stamps.

No one in their right mind is going to sell $500 worth of legit postal stamps at a $150 loss and yet be legit.

    • I've purchased from them before without issue and the stamps are genuine.

The seller buys them from collectors etc at less than face value and thus is able to sell at a discount. They are still able to be used as stamps for the full face value.

    • Hi Holly,

I'm the owner of the store. No they are not fake and no I'm not making a loss. In short, these are old stamps that are 100% still valid for postage. It does not matter if they were bought in 1966 or now as long as they were never used they are valid for postage. They don't expire. Stamp collecting was once a popular pastime but these days it's a dying hobby so much so even these mint stamps sell for under face value.

I've answered many of your questions and other similar doubts in my first post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647265

Shoot me a message if you'd like to chat over the phone. I've been a designer for over 10 years and I run this business under my ABN. You're welcome to look me up.

      Betty is a chick's name btw :)

For sure that is not legit. Those stamps can be fake or stolen. That happened before with Australia post satchels. That is below the price that LPOs order from Australia post. They get around 12% profit margin.

    • +1

You do realise that most stamps are valued in the range of a few cents to a dollar at most? Prepaid satchels are valued at $10+ in comparison. It is also much easier to make fake satchels than stamps. The market for stamps is also pretty small, nobody in their right mind with the right equipment will put in the effort to make fake stamps.
Long story short, philatelics is just sad in comparison to numismatics.

      • Half the time the satchels weren't 'fake' as such anyway, they were essentially undocumented seconds printed by factories in China that used the offical AusPost files.

    • HI Lord of Destruction.

If you go to any stamp dealer and ask for stamps for postage they will have plenty of stock. I suggest buying through an APTA member if you don't want to buy through me: https://www.apta.com.au/Dealer_Search.aspx?Group=9&id=9

How are you able to sell stamps at or below face value?

Stamp collecting was a major hobby in the 70s and 80s but these days there is more supply than demand. They are 100% real unused stamps with gum on the back which you can use for letters and parcels. Only thing is most of them very old with lower face values, so you need to tack on multiple stamps to make up the $1.10 letter or $9.30 parcel postage.

    • $9.7 for parcel now

  • Damn! Been ages since this seller had stock and I was waiting for new listings, but missed out :(

    • Hey Silveredstars,

It's best to join the waitlist to get notified. I wasn't planning on posting this on Ozbargain as I usually post them up in small batches at a time and when I do I shoot an email to the waitlist that they are in stock and they sell out in minutes.

When you get an email, jump onto it!

  • Hey guys,

I wasn't planning on posting this on Ozbargain (but it looks like another fellow Ozbarginer did anyways!) I usually only have small quantities of the bigger values, and they get snapped up in minutes by people subscribed to the waitlist emails. If you want in, it's best to sign up to the waitlist on the product page.

I've also answered many questions on my very first store post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647265

If you guys have other questions not covered in that post I'll be here to answer them :)
