Postage Stamps - $500 Face Value for $297.50 (15% off) & Free Delivery with $20 Order @ Perforated Stamps

FREESHIPOZBARGAIN

Hey guys,

I've just launched my postage stamp business. I sell old Australian decimal postage stamps at or below face value and I'd very much like some courageous guinea pigs to test out my site and give me a bit of feedback :)

To entice, I've included a ozbargain code for a further 15% off sitewide. It also stacks with the free shipping code if you spend over $20.

For the cheapskates out there the best deal I have is on my mystery packs. These are good to use for sending letters and parcels domestic and international. (For international add an extra 10% of the actual postage cost for GST)

$500 FV for $297.50 with both codes
https://www.perforatedstamps.com/shop/p/500-face-value-austr…

$200 FV for $127.5 with both codes
https://www.perforatedstamps.com/shop/p/200-face-value-austr…

$50 FV for $34 with both codes
https://www.perforatedstamps.com/shop/p/50-face-value-austra…

Or if you're not a fan of mystery packs I also have a VERY limited amount of curated stamps. https://www.perforatedstamps.com/shop/curated-stamps
These are what I think are the best of the best design wise and they are going for face value (or 15% off and free shipping for orders over $20 with both codes)

I don't have a lot of curated stamps at the moment as I'm testing the waters but will add more heaps more soon!

PS. If you like looking at pretty stamps I have an insta: https://www.instagram.com/perforatedstamps/ ;)

EDIT: HOLY! I did not expect to see this my inventory to sell out so fast! I'll do my best to replenish and add more stock guys. Thank you for the support and if you guys have any feedback for online experience and products when you do receive it I'd love to hear it, the good and bad :)

  • Is that legit?

of course :) Most stamp dealers have discounted postage stamps for sale. Stamp collecting was a major hobby in the 70s and 80s but these days it's in decline so the market for them isn't great, hence the below face value rate you can buy them at. They are 100% real unused stamps with gum on the back which you can use for letters and parcels. Only thing is most of them very old with lower face values so you need to tack on multiple stamps to make up the $1.10 letter or $9.15 parcel postage.

      • +8

Wow, so when stamp dealers/collectors sell their stamps at a discount, they lose out in both the face value of their stamps and also on inflation. Not to also mention the opportunity cost of investing the money in something else rather than buying stamps.

p/s: I used to collect stamps when I was little and still have my collection. Have always wondered what do collectors do with their stamps when they fall out of interest.

        • +13

Yep, lots of people bought them as an investment thinking it'll go up in value after many years but it didn't happen.

I personally collect because I like the design, not for the $$$ I think it'll be worth in the future.

        • +3

          Sadly this is true.

All those Australian year book of Stamps are worth less than their face value.

I inherited a huge collection only to discover they were worth barely anything.

On the upside, if you did need to post parcels or letters, you can use these stamps

        • +6

And I thought collectors mostly collect used stamps!

        • Investments go down in value all the time

      • +2

Well, you learn something new everyday!

  • +78

And yay!!! That was quick, I just got my first sale :D

  • +11

Best of luck in your business :)

  • I don't understand. Why did people sell their stamps to you under face value?

    • +2

Because the demand isn't there for at or above face value and they have way too much to use for postage themselves.

      • +36

Some ozbargainers would stick their hand into a muddy sewer drain for a 5c con they spotted

        • +15

or drive 20 k to get fuel at 4 c a litre off

          • @ShannonN: I just returned home after driving for 2 kms on the way to Cobram to get my Pfizer shot all because I left my wallet at home. LOL.
Then turns out the appt was a false one. Got a call from panicked folks there after seeing my address.

The power of Ozbargain made me embark on it in the first place.

        • I would do it for a button let alone 5c

      • +4

So if I buy $500 from you, what will I get?
        Do I get 10,000 of 5c?
        or for example 200x$1+400x50c +400x20c+200x10c?
Obviously no one wants lots of small values as there won't be enough space for 22x5c on an envelope

        • Denominations between 1c and $20, these are randomly selected

    • +3

Has the rule changed or have stamps stopped been counted as valid currency?

Op's selling $500 for $297 am I reading that right? If your willing to possibly receive 2000 2c stamps possibly in a batch lol

      • Also thought they were valid currency. But like coins I assume they can be rejected if trying to use more than $10 worth at once

        • Are you kidding how do you fit on a small parcel for example 458 stamps on one side for legal postage hehe lol :)
          Even a letter 55 wouldn't fit .

    • +11

Turns out, if everyone and Thier mother buy something to collect. There will still be tons of it out there in 50 years and still worth jack shit.

      • +14

This year, I invested in pumpkins. They've been going up the whole month of October and I got a feeling they're going to peak right around January. Then, bang! That's when I'll cash in.

  • +1

    Goodluck , King♥

  • +2

Can I use stamps to pay for parcels?

If so this is like discounted parcels assuming you can fit the stamps on the package?

Would be a shame since they are so pretty.

    • +2

Yap! Stamps are postal money, so lets say it costs 20$ to ship a parcel, some stamps adding up to 20$ or more, would cover it! :)

      • A followup question: Can this be used to buy prepaid parcels at the post office including postage or just the postage part of the cost once you have a parcel?

        • +1

No, this can't be used to buy prepaid parcels.

Yes, it is just for the postage part of the cost once you have a parcel.

      • $20 = $20, got it.

    • It's Ozbargain not OzHoarder baby!

      • +3

You haven't seen my Castrol edge collection then!

  • +1

    Are the value including GST?

    • Your question makes no sense Aeros-wath. Please try rephrasing it/elaborating on it.

      • +1

It's a legit question. When you buy a stamp these days, they ask you whether you want domestic or international. Domestic stamps include gst, International stamps don't.

Pre-gst, there's was no concept of domestic vs international stamps, so these would probably be fine to use for both domestic and international.

As for whether these stamps include gst, I'd say no, AusPost probably pockets the 10% (plus whatever rounding because of the denominations).

    • +1

For domestic you put the exact postage amount required, for international you need to put 10% more than the postage price required if using domestic stamps to account for the GST.

If you're asking if my business is registered for GST for tax purposes I am :)

      • for international you need to put 10% more than the postage price required if using domestic stamps to account for the GST.

So they're definitely domestic stamps from post 2000 (when gst was introduced?)

  • +4

Curiously/humourously, this is a bit reminiscent of the original 'Ponzi scheme' … the beginnings of it anyways, which were actually based on anomalies in the 'face/monetary value' of something essentially equivalent to postage stamps. So there's a bit of weird trivia!

  • +1

What am i going to do with a $20 stamp? Didn’t think denominations that high existed?

    • +2

Not liking the mystery packs, what's stopping them from giving you a bunch of $20 stamps.

      • $20 to send a 5kg parcel

        • +1

As a general rule of thumb they tend to be of low denominations because they are so old. Like under $1.10 but if you are after specific denominations you can shoot through a message and I'll try to accomodate :)

  • Unrelated to op's business, but related to the post. Does anyone know how to protect sheets of stamps? I was gifted two of the Pokémon stamp sets from Japan. They come on a sheet that's roughly 5cm by 10cm and the sheet includes artwork so I'd rather not remove individual stamps

    • Put the entire sheet + stamps in a plastic folder/ sleeve would be my pick, failing that, in an envelope and sandwiched between 2 pieces of cardboard big enough to protect it.

    • Stamp album that allows for sheets you can buy at Post Office or Coin/Stamp Collecting shop

    • If you live in an area with high humidity, it's advisable to sandwich the stamps between two sheets of waxed paper for protection. Plastic sleeves could deface the stamps under humid conditions

    • Stamp stock sheets :)

    • Shadow, re:

'Does anyone know how to protect sheets of stamps?'

I would wait for the op shops to reopen, then buy one of those photo albums that you 'slide' the photos into. Those albums are designed not to damage photos in any way/to protect them for aeons, so they'd be perfect for your purpose I reckon. I one to store odd bank notes.

Hey OP, congrats on the business!

Noticed a couple of minor typos (eg "find" / fine arts) or grammar/phrasing on the about page. Just some simple fixes that help raise a site's perceived trustworthiness 👍

    • +1

I was too busy buying cheap stamps to look for typos, you are meticulous!

    • +15

Also "lot and lots of posters" should be "lots and lots"
Also "stamps for they are an overlooked" should be "stamps as they are an overlooked"
      "Mingle" should be "mingled"
"does even age at all" should be "doesn't even age at all"
"a little as a few cents ;)" should be "as little as a few cents" and perhaps the winky face may not be appropriate? But that's up to you I guess.
"me a email" should be "me an email"

(English teacher here bored since none of my students submit anything to be marked!)

      • Wow you are bored

        • -2

It's half-assed. I want to make money off you but can't be bothered using the correct English and/or grammar.

"So sorry my English no gooder but I want your money, you buy ok? Ok"- half the posts on ozbargain.

    • +2

Ty! this is feedback I'm after :)

      • +1

Your site is way ahead of a lot of home businesses we see here, ABN in clear view, registered for GST, and a real "About Us", plus being a long term contributing member here… Thumbs up !

        • +1

Thank you, I do try. I'm a graphic designer by trade so I try to have things as legit as possible.

  • +4

Had a nice big collage of stamps on a parcel but the post office refused it. Couldn't be bothered with arguing as they seemed very unreasonable, so sent it at another post office no worries.

    • +1

Wot. Who are these charlatans masquerading as postal workers?

  • This seems a lot under the 10% under face value I see being sold on eBay and Facebook. I bought $500. Will you always have more stock or is this a one time thing? I want to test the values that you get first, but I'm scared I will miss out on cheap stamps :(
A followup question: Can this be used to buy prepaid parcels at the post office including postage or just the postage part of the cost once you have a parcel?

    • +1

Dw I'll add more stock soon, once I fulfil these insane orders haha

  • +7

Drop me a PM if you can tighten up the face value range I'll be your best customer for life - I will directly pass on savings to all Ozbargainers who buy from me to benefit the Ozb community.

    • Why would he not sell through this website that he has already setup instead of you as a middleman?

      • +9

I don’t think Jason wants to be a middleman. I think he wants cheap postage to sell medicines to OzBargainers and will pass the postage savings on to us.

        • That makes sense, I didn't know he was in the Pharmacy Business

    • +1

If you shoot me an email I'll do my best to accomodate [email protected]

  • I know what I'm taking to shop at Woolies !!!

  • +1

I’m not sure how many people use a heap of stamps these days, however plenty of businesses sure do.

Business idea for you - custom stamps. A roll of a business specific image. Eg. Medial centre using an image of a stethoscope, or even their business logo.

    • +2

I think the design has to be made and printed by Australia post as explained here: https://australiapostcollectables.com.au/articles/how-austra…

    • +2

I'm not allowed to create my own custom stamps unless I'm hired by Australian Post cause forgery, but I have people buy from my etsy shop and ask for florals etc for their wedding invites.

  • +2

If I wanted to post 40 letters at $1.10 - is that something I’d be able to do with a $50 pack? Does the mix of denominations make that a realistic expectation?

    • Seems a bit risky if you get any stamps greater than $2 or even a $5/$10 stamp but you can always save them for future.

      • Id honestly be more worried about getting a ton of very low denominations. Might not even have enough room on envelope to put them all.

        • I dont think they even use those low values anymore, I post a lot of random letters in letter size and A3, never needed a 5-10c stamp like the 90s.
But we have received letters with the incorrect postage sticker. people put 20 folded pieces of paper in a 1.10 letter, which upsets aus post.

    • I'd say they are 90% likely to be under $1.10 for they are old stamps, but leave you can leave me a note to say you only want $1.10 denominations and lower.

  • Ordered! Sounds interesting, good luck!

  • +1

This is really cool. Love the design of the site too, nice and clean. Good luck!

  • Sounds like a good deal for those who want to use them for postage. Also sounds very time consuming though, so you might need a small army or young children that you might be able to convince to help you as part of their "maths homework" to count up the random denominations to make exact postage.

From the pictures, it seems like some of the stamps are from a time when 1c existed.

    • +2

Just be glad you're not OP trying to count out $500 worth for however many Ozbargainers.

  • Isn't the main deal more like 40% off?

    • The bargain is the coupon code for 15% off.
OP is not declaring that the original deal is 15% off.

  • So who takes the hit most from this lost of value? The collectors? Australia Post?

    • +3

The collectors.. a lot would be from deceased estates so it's probably not a big deal..

      • -1

        lol

        • That's a messed up "lol".

          • +2

@timps: I just liked the part where it was “deceased estates, so probably not a big deal”

  • Is the $500 sold out?

  • Hi op, so with the random stamp, will it be like a set of stamps e.g 10 stamps of 36c together total of $3.6, or it could also be just an individual stamp of 1c?

    • It depends what I get, it can be anything from individual loose stamps, sheets, booklets etc but if you have anything specific you're after you can shoot me a message and I'll try to accomodate.

  • +1

I received a parcel from eBay the other day with a huge collage of older stamps. As a receiver it seems completely bizarre.

  • Limited stamps sold out :(

  • Clean site. My friend also uses Squarespace for their e-commerce site.

  • Thanks OP, perfect for a lockdown surprise!!

  • +1

I used to collect and sold my collection when ran out of space to store them, sadly for much less than I was expecting.
The market is flooded with Australian decimals therfore definately a legitimate business. I think I got about 40c in the dollar when I sold.

  • What are your shipping terms? There are no details of when the order will be shipped anywhere on your website?

    • +2

That is a good point! I haven't added that yet, I've been inundated with orders but I'm hoping to send them all out by the end of next week. If it wasn't for so many orders it's usually one business day when I ship them out. I'll be more prepared next time.
