  • These have upgradable RAM and storage, right?

    • If your ballsy enough you can even upgrade the CPU as well.

SnazzyLabs did it a few years ago, and the results was worth it.

      • Just uses the LGA1200 socket, right?

        • Yup!

If you are going down the CPU upgrade route, I would recommend SSD upgrade, as well as an secondary SSD. Since you wouldn't want to redo the display adhesive again in the year.

          • @t25: tbh if I'm spending that much I would probably pick up a second hand one for under a thousand.

            • @TheRealCJ: From what I see on Gumtree/FB marketplace, a lot of sellers think their 2019 iMacs are still worth $1500. And it isn't exactly a secret that Apple products keep their value for longer.

dont buy non m chip macs

Yep no point getting the Intel macs anymore. Apple silicone has proved how powerful they’re.

Unfortunately Apple's spelling and grammar check is still awful.

        • Lol just saw Apple needs to improve on that.

This is cheaper than the iPhone pro max I bought…

    • iPhone Pro Max is probably faster than an 10th gen Intel.

$2.1k for i5. No thanks. My 12-year-old iMac is also i5.

    • i5 is a series of processor…it is just like Apple A series processor, you can't say an iPhone 5 has the same processor as an iPhone 14 even they both have a A series processor inside.

can tell you have no idea about computers

      • Yeah I do know they are a series that's upgraded every year or so, but still, I don't think it's worth it. I have a recent i7 PC, and it struggles with my daily work.

        • what do you do? sounds like you need a m chip mac

          • @SS625: I work on very long, complicated documents, with a lot of windows open at once.

  • I bought this Model at $1698 from OW. It is a solid machine. For general usage, I don't think there are any problems. Also Apply most likely will support 2020 Model for at least three major MAC OS upgrades (i.e. 5 to 6 years).Until it stops full support to add new features, it will still provide security patches for a period of time.

I also notice IMAC can be used as a secondary (target) display by another MAC. This extra function may give give you some relief if you are at Apple eco-system.

I only feel the DJ price is NOT right.

    • Target Display Mode is for old iMacs only. You can't do it on this model.

      • Sorry. My bad.

  • Be aware, you can ONLY upgrade RAM (max at 128GB). But internal storage is limited to what you bought. The SSD is soldered on MB and there is No spare storage connector, neither PCIE/M.2, nor SATA.

  • You can definitely upgrade CPU to i7 model, but it will most likely be throttled because of the limitation of the heatsink.

  • I wouldn't buy an intel-based mac these days. If it goes the same way the PPC -> Intel transition went, in about 2-3 years you'll find Apple and most third party software vendors progressively drop support for the old architecture. Building & testing binaries for multiple targets costs a fair chunk of money and its just not worth it for a shrinking user-base.
