Best Nuclear Bomb Shelters

Wondering what the best deals on nuclear bomb shelters are in Australia. Willing to pay several hundred thousand dollars if it's necessary.

Needs to be able to support an internet connection and withstand a nuclear blast (possibly two) within a 500km radius.

I've seen the one at https://www.undergroundbunkersaustralia.com/bunkers and it's tiny; I want one at least triple this size. Doesn't look like it can survive a nuclear blast either.

Very important that I get this by the end of 2022.

Thanks!

Pine Gap is fairly important to the U.S. war machine I believe… (run by the CIA, NSA, and others)… Not sure if it's nuke-worthy though…

Edit, Thinking on it… The old Harold Holt submarine comms base over in W.A. is fairly important to the yanks also, I believe that's the main comms station for subs on this side of the world, probably a significant target but again, not sure if it would be nuke-worthy…

        • Not sure if you have been living under a rock but we are currently looking to increase our nuclear capability under the AUKUS pact and acquire nuclear submarines and long-range missiles which are offensive weapons. Those bases and missiles installations will be taken out by our enemies at first instance in a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Ideally those new military installations should be situated far away from civilian population to minimise civilian casualties, we have vast areas of uninhabited lands for those sort of things.

          • @xdigger: Nuclear power is not 'nuclear capability'.

Australia does not have any nuclear weapons and is not looking to acquire any.

              @trapper:

and is not looking to acquire any.

We would have said the same about nuclear subs not so long ago, times are changing, who knows what's around the corner… (said tongue in cheek.. if things start getting unfriendly with China our pollies may decide it's a good idea to base some US nukes on our soil, it's not like us little people get any say in it)

@FLICKIT: Could make sense. Look at how north korea gets treated. Special kid gloves for rocketman.

  • Ask your Mormon friends; bloke I knew a while ago had a full underground setup, with a 6 month pantry, power, water and fuel supply. He claimed to have no guns, but I think otherwise.

He also used to wear special underwear, with stone-cutter insignia positioned over the nipples…

    I'm not kidding.

    PS: Very nice guy though.

Congrats on getting to the front page. And you managed it before your school holidays. Pat yourself on the back.

  • Just buy hundred thousand dollars worth of cast iron pans and build it yourself.

  • I suggest you read this book by an australian author. Ive only read the first half so far but its entertaining.

And another good read is this one. Again ive only read the first half. But so far very informative.

  • Housing commission apartment?

  • withstand a nuclear blast (possibly two) within a 500km radius.

You won't need any kind of shelter to survive a nuclear blast at that range.

Under ~10km it could be very handy though.

    • This is a handy guide to what the UK government thought was appropriate back in the '80s. https://youtu.be/9GJttnC8PoA In short, you're dead or you'll wish you were. It goes a long way to explaining why British kids growing up in the '70s/'80s commonly have a very fatalistic view on nuclear war.

      • Even that is talking about normal clothing being enough to shield you from the equivalent of 'severe sunburn' if you are caught outside at 12.5 miles.

Did you watch the whole thing? Cheerful viewing, wasn't it? Build a shelter. Dead. Build a bigger shelter. Still dead. Build an even bigger shelter. Yep, still dead. And even that worked on the assumption of a single bomb. Each missile has multiple warheads. You'd be getting detonations peppered all over the place. You might be 10 kilometres from one, but don't worry, the half dozen that hit closer will get you first.

That, Threads and a variety of other things really affected how people felt back then. Even Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" freaked some people out with its air radius siren at the beginning.

          • @banana365: OP was worrying about one or possibly two within a 500km radius though.

He does not need any kind of bomb shelter at anything near that range.

            • @trapper: Yeah, at that kind of range my biggest concern would be the prevailing wind direction rather than explosions happening way over the horizon.

  • home built hobbit tunnels work the best on a budget

  • Just search YouTube for Colin Furze bunker tunnel and diy it, don't bother with the council.

Ask Homer Simpson if you can shelter at his place.

  • You can buy a Bunnings garden shed and save the rest to purchase Nuclear Insurance from me.
Policy will guarantee new for old replacement if your garden shed fails to withstand the blast.

    Just build it yourself mate.

Rent a few escavators, get some concrete and start building your underground bunker in your back yard. Make sure you go 8.5 metres deep behind your Reich Chancellery or infront of your Reich Chanceller aka your home. You should be able to get our Führer design of the underground bunker, it was incredible.

Let me know once you've done it so I can have a look

  • What IS this, a bunker for ants?

  • but a house with a basement and a double brick garage.

    • You survive the attack and when it’s time to go above ground again you pick which house you want. Going to need lots of non perishable food.

  • Go west, young man.

    • life will be peaceful there..

  • +1

well, you must know that internet will be an issue when a nuke goes off.

  • +1

I can build you one, unfortunately though its attack radius is only 499km.

  • that rust can does not look like it can take an rpg and survive let alone a missile
