not sure if its worth $189 when you know it'll be on special

    • +1

What do you mean? that review shows the price $149 but that's USD which is equivalent to $217 AUD.
Unless I am missing something and there is some discounted price shown in that article.

Do you mean it will be on special like the Q30 and Q35? Well going by the last model the Q35, it took about 6 months for it to drop to $149 AUD from $199. So probably 12+ months from release until the Q35 drops to $99~$109 like the Q30. You could apply the same to the Q45, it will take 12+ months until a similar price drop to $100 territory.
You can't expect that kind of big discount straight after release.

I have the Q30, and they are quite good for the price. 1 thing I didn't realise is that the earpads are not that easily replaceable.I'm guessing it's the same for the Q45

    • Had my q30's for a couple of years now, haven't noticed any tearing or damage to the earpads so that's good but knowing that they're not replaceable and once they do start ripping etc aint a great feeling. But they sure are comfy.

Oof, non-replaceable earpads is a dealbreaker for me at this price.

I hate the faux-leather earpads most earphones come with, I pretty much immediately replaced the earpads on my XM2s with velour ones, so much more comfortable for me.

        • Actually, I had a think about what this guy said about easily replaceable and you can find earpads on Aliexpress and they seem replaceable easily enough to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL1MwvSe3kM

I feel a bit better now.

That's the q30's, I can't imagine these being much different.

@nuts: Oh good, not so bad then

            • @TheRealCJ: It's possible, it's just not easy and sometimes on some headphones you will risk "breaking" the old pads when taking them off. But that's not such a big issue if they are worn out anyway.
The "not easy" part is finding the same pads. They are pleather memory foam ones so you just have to search that on Aliexpress and judge by the pictures. Most likely Anker just picked an OEM set of earpads to use on their headphones, so you just have to find them which should be made easier if many others have already tried and posted about it.
e.g. the Q30 pads are probably easier to find than the newly released Q45. But by the time Q45 pads wear out someone might have found the similar OEM ones.

That's one problem with a lot of these budget-end Chinese brand headphones, they don't sell replacement earpads. Like they want you to throw the whole headphones away and buy their newer models.

Same issue with my Taotronics TT-BH046, the earpads are very soft and comfy, but less than 6 months use they started to tear. When I enquired Taotronics about replacement earpads they didn't have any available, so I sourced a pair from AliExpress instead, they are harder and not as comfy, but they are more durable and haven't torn for past 18 months.

    • After reading your comment I did some digging and they don't seem that hard to replace, check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL1MwvSe3kM

Found some earpads on Aliexpress too.

      • Sure there may be replacement earpads, but they are not exactly the same as the OEM earpads. In the video, the replacement earpads appear harder and more durable, so not as soft and comfy to wear.

        • You’re right, there’s no ‘official’ earpad. Good to know for people buying these.

    • ear pads are replaceable on Q30. I replaced mine. Not sure about the Q45.

@puppyhulu any discount on the A40 in ear type?

  • These vs Bose Q45s?

    • +1

If you have the money then choose Bose. If not then choose these.

    • "Bose Q45s?"

Are you looking at those Bose Quietcomfort 45's that are on Aliexpress for a similar price? If you look at the review photos those are clearly fake don't bother with those.

      • No I have real ones, just wanted a real life comparison from an OzBargainer who may have both

    1. Does this model address previous models having issues with hand snapping?

    2. Does this mode address the no anc when wired for plane trips?

    • +1

"2. Does this mode address the no anc when wired for plane trips?"

That was addressed in the Q35's so I would think it would be the same for the Q45's.

Although it would be nice if OP confirmed both points.

Shame all the other countries get 20% off codes and we get 15% off. Wish the code worked for the A40s.

    • Actually there is a global 25% off KSI code. But they don't work I already tried them and even combinations using this deal code.

  • I will also wait for some real reviews. All youtube reviews of these so far are paid reviews where soundcore sent the headphones to them, almost fake reviews. It feels a bit steep over the $109 for Q30 right now.

These have now appeared on Amazon as well for $220 https://www.amazon.com.au/soundcore-Cancelling-Headphones-Bl…

  • Ordered. Been waiting patiently for these. Most online reviews seem to be praising the Q45 for features, battery and decent sound quality especially when compared with the bigger names like Sony/Bose etc. Fingers crossed they sound decent.

    • Someone commented most online reviews so far seemed to be paid or sponsored reviews, not sure if they are biased and inaccurate.

      • Good point. I guess I'm just hoping/crossing fingers they're decent :)

    • +1

      "Fingers crossed they sound decent"

From what I hear the Soundcore default sound is "bass heavy". But the App has a programmable EQ so most reviews say you can use that to make the sound how you want it to your own taste.

Q45 arrived today (ordered 6 days ago). Relieved to say; I really like them so far!

I'm no audiophile but I can be picky with headphones, having returned a couple in the past. I have a Koss KSC-75 and Audio Technica AD700 for comparison. I like good soundstage over heavy bass (though I wish my AD700 had tad more bass). The Q45 has quite decent soundstage for a closed pair of headphones, and a nice fun/tight bass…a welcome change over the AD700, though the sound is not as detailed …but that's OK for my intended usage of the Q45.

Noise cancelling and voice calls seem just fine, though I don't have anything to compare with. Guessing the more expensive Sony headphones have better noise cancelling, but the Q45 does just fine with cutting out the sounds I want cut out; little whirring sounds from my PC/laptop, general ambient sounds from outside my home, etc. Haven't tested in-flight yet but feel confident they'll be fine. Transparency mode isn't very realistic, but is good enough to alert me when my family yells out :)

Design feels solid. Definitely not something that's cheap. Love having actual tactile button controls. Comfort is good but I suspect it will feel warm/sweaty on a hot day. App is very intuitive and hasn't bugged out on me yet. Overall, quite happy. Time will tell if things change.

I was going to add another comment to my previous comment above.
I watched another recent video and I was wrong about the sound it turns out the Q45 has a more balanced sound out of the box compared to the previous Q30/Q35 which had a bass heavy sound.
