Melbourne to London under $1000?

I'm looking for a flight home anytime late December, any airport in London it doesn't matter as long as it's cheap :D

I have found a few for around $970 but they stop twice and the duration is twice as long as it was when I came to Australia. I used Air Asia X and got here for just over 300 British pounds (about $450), however, they are no longer offering a service to London.

Any help appreciated, thank you.

    Could you fly to Asia on Air Asia then pick up a different airline from there?
