Min acceptable antenna count is 6

    • +24

8 is best so it can jump upside down and run around like a spider.

      Automatically moving for best signal.

    • there is no external antennas in my router, totally unacceptable :(

  • Whoops forgot to change the price

    • +5

      Tell ‘em the price, son!

Got this before. Cheap build. Not great wifi

    • I also had this one and upgraded to the VX420G2v

Agreed. The wifi is poor. From memory I could only get around 300mbit on a given device.
Most notably it was terrible with my Mac (not sure exactly why this was though…)

      For lan it’s fine

I think this is what I have got now. Build quality looks very cheap but works very well. I don't see any issues with it whatsoever. I won't be replacing it any time soon. I am using it in a town house and signal reaches every corner of the house without an extender. No dropouts, no dramas.

    • +1

Same here at my old place. I have just moved to a much bigger 5 bed house with full ethernet wiring, but still setting up all my access points and rest of the network. In the meanwhile, using this bad boy and pretty shocked how well it's covering the whole house so far. Make's me think the new setup is overkill haha

    • Ok so I have the AX1800 not the AX1500, just checked.

Hope I didn't cause any confusion. Not sure what the difference is between the two.

  • Seems like a good deal for PCVR on the quest.

edit: if you want the highest possible bandwidth

    • +2

      I disagree, for PCVR.
Better off with asus AC router for the price
      *Edit:
      Heat, dropouts

      • Doesn’t air link max out at 200mbps?

        • This is a great point, I'm not sure why I was under the impression that a higher bandwidth would be better.

And actually now that I think about it, most people only have a 1 gigabit ethernet port in their desktops so they wouldn't even max out the wifi 6.

I'll have to look into how improved latency is to see if it's even worth it.

      • Does wifi 6 on the quest cause it to overheat? I did not know that, I've only ever played over AC though. I actually forgot that wifi 6 also allows for slightly lower latency too so there's that benefit of AX as well.

Best value is using an old AC router that came with an ISP plan I suppose.

        • Nah not that I can notice,
          Archer routers stutter IIRC.

Reddit quest users and gurus will recommend Asus routers mostly. Been like that for as long as air link has been around…

      • +1

I used this for PCVR with Quest 2.

Kept dropping out. Was a piece of sh**.

I now realise it was likely due to heat.

  • +1

I got it to upgrade my old Asus rt-n66u.
The coverage is smaller. But other than that it is all good. Stable wifi from my experience.

  • I have this, same room & next room it's great, the next room is rubbish WiFi4 intermittent.

    Here is dong’s review link
    https://dongknows.com/tp-link-archer-ax10-review/

    It’s high rated budget router.

  • +1

Can you use this in a mesh or is it better to buy a mesh thing

    • +1

It very likely doesn't support the mesh configuration for WiFi but you'd still.be able to extend the wifi using a mesh network, either by running a cable to one of the mesh points or running them both next to each other (which would be a bit redundant).

  • IS this any better than the router that I'd received with my NBN subscription?

    • +3

What did you receive with your NBN Subscription? This one supports Wifi 6 so I'd reckon that it would be better than stock router from ISP.

  • +1

Been using for a year now and it works pretty well. Definitely seen an improvement in my internet speed with my NBN Plan of 100/40 from Mates. Max download speed goes up to 10-12MBps but my apartment is tiny so never got much of a problem with coverage. Also the TP Link app Tether is easy to use. Def recommend at $89!

    • Wait up!?? You're on a 100MBps download plan and only getting 12MBps and you're ok with that?
Stop paying for the 100, drop to 50/10 and buy some random items on Ozbargain with the money you save!

      • Wait so what speed am I supposed to expect?

        • +1

Be aware that MBps isnt the same as Mbps. Plans are advertised in MBps (megabytes), where as the download speeds youd see in your browser for example is in Mbps (megabits)

A 100MBps plan would get you maximum of 12.5Mbps download speeds.

Seems you are getting the right speed.

          • +1

@Planky: Ah yes that's what I meant. Always got confused between MBps and Mbps.

          • +2

@Planky: Exactly what you said but swap them.

          • @Planky: @Planky Plans are always advertised in Mbps (megabit per second). You got it the other way around mate

      • I'm stepping away quietly so no-one notices I was just confused in the first place.

  • Anyone know what the WiFi performance is like compared to them Saegemcom freebie gateway (the black vertical tower one) that come with Optus NBN? I am looking for same if not better range.

  • Got one, see how it goes with my packet loss on ps5 using Archer D9

  • I bought this earlier in the year and quickly found that FTTB uses ADSL-size cables which this doesn't support. So a little heads up for those on FTTB (not FTTP).

    • FTTB will usually need a modem before the router anyway….

    • FTTB uses RJ12/RJ11 - One pair of copper wires as it's essentially just FTTN technology aka VDSL2 Technology

      • but the speed is limited to 100/40, what a rort

  • +1

I think this is ~$70 at The Good Guys Commercial.

  • +1

    Showing as $96.50?

    • $100 for me. Price keeps going up!

      • +2

        Inflation moves fast these days

      Select free shipping

  • Yeah same here price is $100 now..

  • WPA3?

  • LOL @VoidIvory let me outtttttt

    made me laugh anyway

  • I'm having constant issues with my two Covr-1102 points, thinking that I might buy this to replace and see if the signal reaches upstairs OK.
I'm in a two storey town house.

  • I have this. It's fine but the Wi-fi range is not great. I can't get full strength signal on my PC (Wi-Fi 6) in the next room over. But the software interface is pretty decent.

Overall good value but not worth picking up if you have a big house or have multiple storeys (unless you run it as a mesh).
