One in particular to avoid IMO.

Read the last deal and make up your own mind - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720171

Avoid. Most of them are bogus reviews by self operated accounts or paid reviewers. Sitting in China with zero liability on their blowing chargers.

Running 4 of these at home and work, been great little units charging 2x phones daily as well as my notebook (running at full load/output)…

Also have 3 of their power boards and a range of their older charges which have all been good exept I did have an issue with one of the powerboards having a fautly USB port that could not negotiate the charging rate and went in a 'loop' if you connected a USB device (Eg, charging, not charting, charging, not charging..etc).. I contacted Heymix support and sent them a video, they arranged a replacement unit which I got the next day (I was very happy with that).

I also wonder given their prices perhaps they 'might' move significant qty's which might explain the bad reviews as with any product the more you sell the more issues you will have.. eg, I've had a computer graphics card start smoking on me (stock standard!) and my wifes iPhone burnt out as well.. it happens to all brands…

they 'might' move significant qty's which might explain the bad reviews

Time for a Heymix challenge. Pick a brand of reputable charger and find the same type of reports in the reviews.

      • Did a quick search on Anker as I noticed you liked that brand (as do I) and as expected I found some issues reported and others with fault cables, batteries..etc.. (shared the first few links found below but I'm sure we can all find these if we search but I don't see much point personally as every product has issues).

Just to be clear I too like the Anker brand and have a few of their products and never had a single issue as yet with them, so by no means I'm saying it's a bad brand!

I do also think they might offer better quality than say Heymix as I did have 1x DOA product from them (although it got replaced right away and I was very happy with their support)…

I also think you do get what you pay for and Heymix is a cheaper brand but has been working fantastic for me thus far.. perhaps they will all die in the near future I have no idea but so far 1 year later and they are all working well for me and I have quite a few of them around at home and work… time will tell I guess.

Ideally, you'd be able to find these on Amazon or even Ozbargain without resorting to having to broaden your search. There are plenty of chargers with many more reviews than Heymix.

Those examples are power banks and cables. There isn't a mention of Anker chargers. I'm also aware of some recalled Belkin products which I wouldn't count as they were recalled.

          The Heymix challenge stands.

Pick a brand of reputable charger and find the same type of reports in the reviews.

          • @ihfree: Sorry did not realise you were after Amazon/OZB, I just did a quick search on Google as I often do when looking for things but let me play the game…

People reporting it's destroyed/damaged various devices, many many 1 star reviews..etc.

            Blowing fuses in car's:

Sorry I just don't see the point of this personally, as I said any product would have similar results and fail. I do think Anker has great products though but like I said even Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Asus, Tesla, LG.etc..etc.. all have had major issues it does not make them a bad company… to me what matters is how they deal with the issues and I was impressed with Heymix prompt support in my experience.

I'm always open to facts and changing my mind on products/companies if they present themself but so far I've been more than happy with the value and quality Heymix has offered me thus far… anyway wish you all the best and completely understand if you've been burnt and want to avoid them that's perfectly reasonable.. I'm the same with some products such as SP branded SSD drives as I got burnt many times over with those and refuse to buy their products, but many do and are happy with the value)

            • @Jonc: Original Heymix challenge did mention quantity from the previous thread.

Please find a charger from a reputable brand which has similar reviews in the same quantity as Heymix

Looking at the proportion of 1 star reviews for your listed products 4%, 5%, 3%. Even then, based on some of those 1 star reviews, I would probably avoid those, but I would still feel safer connecting a device to one of those chargers than the Heymix.

Now looking at this Heymix Model 1 star reviews - 20%, 6%, 24%(old listing when you tick "Show out of stock"). As a bonus, here's a Heymix car charger with 19%.

I agree that all products are going to have issues. The issue with Heymix is

              • Frequency
              • Type of failure

If you are happy with the higher risks associated, that's fine. Everyone is free to make their own choice. I think the issues with the Heymix chargers are worth pointing out.

Heymix, Zyron, Aftertop, Pushtop, Powastone, BDI, Iwoco, Minix, … What's the story behind all these different brands? And the apparent review warfare they have with each other.

    • +2

Zyron is an Australian company, so are liable at least for what they sell. Heymix is vaguely a company. Probably just someone bulk ordering whatever they can find, essentially zero liability with moderate brand risk. The rest aren't really brands at all, zero liability and zero brand risk.

      • +3

It's laughable to think just any Australian comapny would offer you piece of mind when things go awry.

There IS assurance if it is a mid sized plus company with a healthy balance sheet and reputation to protect; smaller players are not much better than an individual trader.

        • If there's a problem, you take it up with Amazon, not Heymix, right? I don't take a chance on their stuff personally, but Amazon usually pretty good with this stuff. If Heymix is an Australian company, they are bound by our consumer law and thus Fair Trading or ACCC can intervene (they both have phone hotlines).

          • @y2k: Consumer law is only paper tiger - it's worth nothing if company has no money to pay their liabilities.

        • They'll definitely give you a piece of their mind

It's not properly approved by the SAA. How is this okay to be sold to Australians via Amazon

    • +2

what do you mean by not properly approved SAA ?

..says SAA approved so has had high voltages sent through it, the clip on plug has insulation on pins so isn’t chinese which are thinner than AU.

    • +1

[Global Standard Electronic Safety]: CB TUV UL certificated, Global standard included AU SAA standard electronic safety ensures complete protection for you and your devices. With the built-in multi-protection system and premium microchips, no worry to the event of over-voltage, over-current, over-heating or short circuits, perfectly protect your devices.

  • +6

I leave mine plugged in all the time, and its been fine for a year now.
I am sure those bad stories are real, so if you just got yours, make sure you are around when you have it plugged in.

    • +4

mine are always plugged in, but i don’t have things plugged into chargers in bedroom and leave the house …… lithium batteries failing and igniting are of more concern to me than the charger falling which if SAA approved won’t hold a flame ….lithium batteries are another issue ….use to charge my radio control model batteries in bathroom or kitchen …..if they ignite not as much a fire hazard as in bedroom or carpet floor.

  • +2

Might be obvious for some and the Zyron rep did say that Heymix is a Chinese company. I took that to mean that Heymix is an Australian drop shipper. Turns out they are not Australian at all even though they are selling on Amazon AU.

    • +1

I don't there is an australian company that makes USB chargers in australia ….. I bought one when the deal was for the black ones, arrived fast, works OK, if there is an issue send back to amazon …….

    • +2

the difference between heymix and zyron.. is that heymix sell what they are making in china… zyron are buying it from someone in china, slapping their brand on it and selling it here. either way, you're buying a chinese designed, chinese made charger.

i run a few heymix chargers nad havent had a problem yet.

      • For what its worth I never had an issue with this 66w Heymix or the Minix Neo P1 version.

However Zyron version was DOA and replacement died 6 months later.

Just the luck of the draw.

This particular model is my favourite charger.

Its compact , has multiple ports and supports PPS.

      • +1

That's false information. Heymix do not make these chargers. Both of them sell OEM chargers from different factories and slap their logo. Its same for almost every retailer even in Australia or other countires.

You can checkout Heymix's products on Amazon and will find how they manipulate the reviews and buyers with lots of fake 5 star reviews by same accounts on all their products.

This same product had been previously on Amazon Link with not so great reviews. They fix it now with new listing and fake 5 stars.

Most importatntly, Heymix is not in Australia means no legal rights

I would recommend Belkin (connected device insurance) or Anker, expensive but trusted.

        • well either way… its all the same oem … you're getting a cheaply made charger for the lowest possible price …

        • +1

          Interesting link and reviews:

-5 bad reviews linked in total:
          - Failed after 10-20 cycled (perfectly justified complaint, do a warranty claim!)
          - Water damaged (seems like some kind of transport issue, I'm sure they will replace it if you ask if not Amazon will)
          - Worked for a week past warranty (but only had the product for just over a month and the warranty is 12 months, does not make sense?)
          - 3 units total, 1 failed after 3 months but no way to contact the seller. (just use Amazone or the Heymix website like I did?)
          - Stopped working after a day (Fair enough, do a warranty!)

So yes faulty units, fair enough but why are they not doing warranty claims and reporting there is no support, I can vouch I found their support/warranty fantastic and got a replacement the next day… can't complain about that (I got to keep the faulty powerboard as well which only one of the USB ports is faulty anyway so that was nice)..

If anyone else has a faulty Heymix product this is the form I used to contact them… hope it's of help to others.

          • @Jonc: haven't had to replace any of my heymix, but they do send follow up email via amazon to check if you are happy.

the components used to make these are standard, the chip manufacturer provides the design, companies just assemble and out their own name on them, and they get them SAA certified.

My heymix charger just died after 3 months light use. For $79, this is unacceptable. Would never buy this brand again.
The silver lining is Amazon as usual had excellent returns (no questions asked) for prime accounts, even after the "no returns" period of 60 days.
Oh, and my house didn't burn down and no one got electrocuted, which in hindsight is the big plus 😁
