I think the MVP is a rubber ball whereas this is a composite leather.
composite leather
Thanks, assume composite leather is better.
Bought, if this is better will return the Amazon one.
Composite leather has a softer and nicer feel than a rubber ball. I think it's a worthwhile upgrade from the MVP for the money
In general, rubber is more durable, and better for outdoor use.
Leather is the nicest, but gets shredded with outdoor use, so best for indoor only.
Synthetic / composite leather are somewhere between - give a much nicer, leather-like feel, compared to rubber, and more durable compared to leather. But not as nice as leather and not as durable as rubber. Good for mixed indoor/outdoor use.
If you are shooting around outdoors on nice-ish courts, I would go synthetic leather (was always my personal preference, when playing a mix of indoor and outdoors…20+ years ago!). If you are playing on rubbish asphalt courts, I would stick with rubber probably.

I think mostly park basketball courts.
@caprimulgus: The Spalding TF Grind is probably my favourite indoor/outdoor ball.
My favourite indoor balls are composite such as the Molten GG7X & GF7X, Spalding NBL Solution Official Game Ball, Wilson Evolution and Wilson NBA Authentic Series Indoor Ball.
I was very keen to play with leather balls but disappointed when I did. Each one I I tried I never liked, Spalding NBA ball, Molten BGLX and BG5000. Would just slip out of my hands.. maybe not worn in enough. dunno.. just never liked them.
Actually all the new Molten BG series I don't like. Molten GF7X is probably the best bang for buck indoor ball ever. Everyone likes the ball.
I was once stranded on a beach with one of these
Not this?
No, that’s his cousin 🤣
This code wasn't working this morning. I complained to eBay support. They must have sorted it out now.
How is this compared to Wilson's NCAA final four? Previously had great experience with it.
Prob similar.
Most indoor/outdoor composite balls are similar.
Indoor only balls generally have a much nicer feel.
Yea I'll probably have a go, as the price seems pretty good. Didn't bring my ball with me and am desperate for one :( It kills me now not balling for 3 freaking months!
For the price, you can’t go wrong
I ordered one to play outside
@JimB: XD
Arrived today, seem not that bouncy like the rubber MVP, is it normal?
I think rubber balls can be a bit bouncier than composite, but also inflation level can make a difference. Only real way to tell inflation level is with a pressure gauge, as an example I pumped two balls up and by hand they felt similiar hardness but one bounced much higher. When I checked with gauge one was at 9 psi (recommended) and one was at 12 psi

Did try pump the composite to 12psi seems a bit more bouncier now.
Aside from bounciness, hor do you like it? Feels much nicer than the MVP, yeah?
Rubber balls tend to be more bouncy. Also tends to bounce out of the ring too lol
A easy test to see if a ball is properly inflated is this test… a basketball is properly inflated "such that when it is dropped onto the playing surface from a height of about 1.80 m measured from the bottom of the ball, it will rebound to a height, measured to the top of the ball, of not less than about 1.2 m nor more than about 1.4 m.
I like my ball to bounce closer to 1.4m.

Just test it at home (tiles), the MVP rubber can but this composite leather one can't.
Pump it
@JimB: Already 12 psi.
@superforever: What’s the psi on the MVP ?
12psi is kinda high but doesn’t really matter, just pump it until bounces correctly.
I don’t check the psi, I stop pumping when it bounces right
What’s the psi on the MVP ?
I have the Xiaomi pump, the MVP just use the standard ball psi around 8-9 and this one I have to manually pump it to 12psi.
Got the ball. Well worth the money.
I bought it as an outdoor ball but is good enough to use as a practice indoor ball.
Seems a waste to use it outdoor! Time will tell how durable it is outdoors.
Just bought the Wilson MVP Basketball $16.96 a few days ago from Amazon, is this any better?
