I recently bought a Russell Hobbs RHK82BRU Carlton Kettle, Stainless Steel and price match at Officeworks for $47.45
I paid with my 10% off OW Gift card, and I used my Hiver debit card for 5% cashback when I purchased the OW gc, end up the real total for me was around $40.33

    • Quick boil? Silent? Does it make a noise when it has boiled? Thanks.

      • +3

To me it's just a regular kettle, not quick and not slow, not silent but not loud
I bought it because that's the one I found with the least plastic inside the kettle and under $50.

And my cat's breath smells like cat food…

      • +1

I only use dry food. Less cat food breath.

        Also I don't have a cat.

Genuine question & excuse my ignorance if its obvious -
but what's the difference between this and the Kmart stainless steel 1.7L model?

Is it just brand and (very slightly) aesthetic? Curious if I've missed something or of its classical business tings

    • +1

This specific one boils slightly faster and quieter compared to the cheapies, just depends how much you care really. If you care about the small stuff then this one is a tad more ergonomic, a bit heavier (build quality), and soft top just means the lid doesn't sling open compared to a cheapie

      • Can you look for the wattage sticker on your kettle. It says on the link 3000 watts which is obviously wrong. 2200watts would be good, 1700watts bad

        • 2400 :)

          • @Kaise: Oops I was looking at the Russell Hobbs link, that says 3000watts, Breville is the highest wattages possible. Not bad

            • @bobvegas: 3000watts?

              That's 12.5amps.

So you're going to need a 15amp socket to plug that baby in.

Household appliances typically don't go over 2400w (10amps) as our outlets are only rated at 10amps.

  • Have this leaks when cold from the plastic view.

    • +3

Are you saying it leaks from the seams around the water indication level marks? Sorry just found your comment hard to understand

    • +1

      That’s a warranty issue.

Happened to me once in a different brand.

    • +3

Have this, mine does not leak, when cold, from the plastic view.

Good kettle. Have one at work. Suffers constant abuse at work. Still going strong after 9 years

    • How do people abuse a kettle?

      • +10

"Stupid kettle, boil quicker. Seriously, you're the worst - you couldn't even boil the water off a sparrow's back. Your mom's boiled more water than you on a cold winter's morning. Yo mumma's got the coldest boil."

        • +1

If that kettles gets anymore abused. It should claim compo.

    2400W 1.7L for those interested

I've had this kettle for several years. No issues except the push down plastic part in the lid detached. A few drops of Araldite and she was good as new. Cleans up nice with a magic sponge. Quick quiet boil. Interior is as new but we use rain water. Might even make myself a cuppa before I start dinner.

  • Also had this kettle for seevral years. No major issues but after you boil the water, you have to be careful not to touch any stainless steel part as it gets very hot. Not a great design I don't think. Even when you close the lid, you have to make sure you only touch the tiny plastic bit.

  • I prefer the instant hot water dispenser at Kmart for $69

I got the anko deal on here recently for $23. This in comparison seems like a rip (note: I had the predecessor model of this for 10 years until it started falling apart).

  • The soft opening top will get stuck every one and then, which is the most annoying thing about this kettle.

  • +1

Solid kettle - our daily driver for three years and no issues

    • What's the mileage like?

      • +2

        Not bad - 1.7L per 90 seconds

        • +1

          I'm sold!
