Makita 460mm (18") Brushless Lawn Mower Kit (2x 18V 5Ah Batteries) $660 + Makita DUB184Z 18V Blower via Redemption @ Bunnings

570

Comes with 2 x 5Ah batteries and dual fast charger.

Free Makita DUB184Z 18V Li-Ion LXT Cordless Brushless Via redemption which makes the deal all the more sweeter!

Looks like im going to swap over to Makita from my Milwaukee gear, cant justify the prices for Milwaukee anymore. Picked up a Makita line trimmer from FB Marketplace for $40 and have been using with a makita to Ozito adaptor perfectly. Makita for often used tools like drills and impact, Ozito for the multitool, hedger and jigsaw me thinks!

Picked up mine this morning with staff discount, maybe cheaper with powerpass… seems to work great. Cheaper than these previous deals which came with 2x 6Ah batteries:

Makita LXT OPE 460mm 18" 18V x 2 Brushless Lawn Mower Kit, $720 (Save $89) + Bonus Leaf Blower via Makita @ Bunnings Warehouse

Makita DLM464PG2 36V (18V x 2) Brushless Mower Kit + Bonus Makita DUB184Z 18V Li-Ion Blower $799 + Freight @ Toolswarehouse

Another good deal is the Makita 18V 2 Piece Brushless Cordless Combo Kit for $275

  • How much was staff discount

    • +2

      $622.32

  • +1

    Is still $660 with powerpass

    • +1

Powerpass is basically useless….give 5% discont on goods with high margin only….

      • Depends what industry you are registered with Bunnings… Different discount applies

        • If that was the case. This is getting more interesting…

  • +2

Hiw good is this compared to 4 stroke lawnmower

    • Less carbon foot print and noise?

      • +1

Who cares about less carbon foot print, how does it compare to a 4 stroke

        • People, who don't like an excessive noise, stench and generally like to breathe cleaner air.

        • +10

It goes like a low level 4 stroke engine. The real benefits are the noise and NO MAINTENANCE!
No fuel in the shed to run out, no oil checking, no oil getting into the air filter because someone tipped it the wrong direction when getting wet grass cleared out.
Disadvantages over a low level 4 stroke are that you have to remember to top the batteries up, fuel is easy to get anywhere, batteries take time to recharge, 2x 5ah will take about 40 minutes with this charger.
Also the run time, depends on how long the grass is but the estimates that they give are pretty close to bang on

          • @peachhead101: major disadvantage is it'll be piss weak, you'll curse yourself for forgetting to mow it every second week in summer or there's some waterlogged part of your lawn. I believe the ego might fare better but I wouldn't bet my money on 36v mower.

      • +5

        That's not my question though

        • Your question is pretty generic, its like asking how good the tesla model 3 compared to ICE vehicle?

One need regular service + fuel and other need charging?

          • +1

@boomramada: No really, it's more about strength, can i go to a forest and cut high thick grass like i can with a 4 stroke lawn mower.
I.e a houe that hasn't been lawned for a few years

            • @michael9865: Battery power mowers are getting better, still EGO mowers the top of the range i think.

Professionals still using the 4 stroke. So i would stick to them for forest cuts.

            • +1

@michael9865: And how often do you do that?

              • @miicah: Depends we have a storage house which we lawn mower once a year but we did leave it this time for about 2,3 years since covid started.
We lawn mower the house we live in atleast twice a year even though we should really do it bimonthly

                • @michael9865: and does your petrol mower can handle lawn that are not cut for over a year? or do you have ride on mower?? Do you get a visit or letter from Council for Notice of clean up??

        • Agreed. Probably the only related consideration to the reply you got is you can probably mow earlier in the morning without pi55ing your neighbours off. Or maybe say they're having a gathering and out of consideration you dont wanna fire up a petrol donk.

I seriously doubt anyone can complain about the fumes of a tiny 4 stroke engine.

        • Go for the 4 stroke , should be cheaper depending on what mower your buying

    • +3

      Like any battery mower-

Keep on top of your lawn, whatever.

Neglect it or let it get wet- not so great.

    • easier to start and no need to have fuel in a can …….i got rid of petrol and just have brushless electric now …..250m2 and still charge left ……

    • I find mine is a little low on torque and blade speed compared with a petrol mower. I have a couch grass and it struggles if it is a little long and lush.

It has no trouble with Buffalo but the more stringy couch does test it in the thicker parts and requires two goes.

My neighbour has a 4-stroke and while it struggles a little when the couch is thick, it is certainly better than my Makita.

Isn't the 399 ozito have better ratings and reviews? Is this worth 250 more? I understand this is a tougher brand, but lack of reviews worry me.

Also can you please link the adaptor you have? Thanks.

    • Can't speak for Ozito but I got this mower last year and it's been really good. I've never used the catcher, it does a great job with mulching.

    • I've been really impressed with the Ozito, pretty powerful, good endurance, and I like that it's light enough to pick up and carry up/down a small flight of stairs between my front and back yard. My main gripe with it is the catcher is pretty small (45L vs 60L with this one) so I have to empty it often.

My first Ozito tool so not sure about how well it'll last, but with a 5 year warranty at Bunnings I'm not really concerned

      • Nice good to know!

    • if you are into makita for tools means same battery across all your stuff …..

      • Ya that's true, but their tools are expensive for basic home use.

        • Agree. But there are makita compatible tools on ebay, Amazon or Ali if you want cheap tools

          • @MisterNobody: Probably, but cant beat the Ozito price/good reviews/local bunnings 3 to 5 years warranty.

    • That ozito hasnt been in stock for months. It looks great but I need a mower, so bought the makita.

  • +3

Sydney Tools have the Makita roadshow on which is why bunnings have dropped their price (ends today). Some people might be better off purchasing from Sydney Tools as the price is $729 and comes with $100 worth of bonus points, so if u want other things u might be better off at Sydney Tools

    • Price match too

      • I've seen purchases at Sydney Tools not acquire bonus points because the purchase used a price match against Bunnings. It was price match or points, choose one.

        • Yep, g1 is correct. If price match against store, then bonus points would NOT be honoured.

For a $140 more, is it worth going Ego? Not steel deck, but 56V.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720140

    • I would have thought so. How good can a 18v lawn mower be? I don’t have a lot of grass to mow and can make it on 36v. 18v lawn mower might just be good enough to do a small nature strip? Not being snarky, genuine question.

      • What 18v mower? This makita is 36v (2x18v)

    • Wondering this myself.

And if I want a true petrol replacement, then I expect I've got to go to one of the higher end Ego mowers (or equivalent…but I'm already in the Ego system…so…).

    • I think the biggest difference is that ego is 5kg less (but not steel deck) and the makita battery has far more uses.

I have to carry a mower down stairs to mow a courtyard, so 5kg less is nice. However I already own makita tools and garden equipment.

      Decisions, eh.

    • If you don't plan on getting any other Makita tools, yes the Ego would be better.

  • I just had a look in store and found the Makita mower.Nice bit of kit for the price. There was no mention of the free blower ( via redemption) though.I asked one of the staff members and they weren't aware of the free blower with this model

  • I've seen many reviews of these Makita ones saying the wire handle has a lot of tension when operating and makes it hard to keep clasped - how is it? (I've pulled it on a demo model with no batts and it's easy but apparently in use it's something many complain about?

    • +1

      Tbh I kinda agree
Mowed last weekend for first time in ages and found it annoying AF. Tried to make a clasp to hold it but it broke

    • +1

I've had this mower for a couple of years and I've never noticed the tension. There's an Aussie YouTube reviewer that mentions it though. Not sure what he's on about. I mow 200 m2 at a time, so not heaps.

      • +1

Well I picked one up anyway (well two actually as the first was a little bashed up in the box!) Worst case I could always use a Velcro loop I guess!

    • +1

I just used mine for the first time today and yeah the tension makes my hand sore after a short while. Found myself changing my hands position several times.

Will have to rig up some sort of solution.

  • COrdless mowers are much easier to push, very light weight and only thing is the battery can last only for 1 hour and 15mins mowing. I bought the ALdi felix mower for $225, its only 15inch wide came with 20v 4H battery x 2(40v total). Its only 17kg weight, light and easy to push, compare with my Honda BUffalo HRU196 mower with 45kg weight, its hard to push.
I have around 165M2 of lawn in both front and back yard and i can do the mowing in front yard, it takes around 30mins and half of backyard, at backyard i need to rearrange plant pots, so take time. I though of getting a spare 2 same batteries and when i check in ebay, each costing $90, so pay another $180 for both batteries not worth for the price i bought it.

Is 5AH battery can hold more power than 4AH?

    • The 5AH battery holds 25% (i.e.. 1AH) more energy than the 4AH.

  • +1

Got one of these mowers earlier this year, from TT with the whipper by redemption.
Mows good, I used to have a Honda 4 stroke but found it too big and cumbersome for my residential yard and storage. This is a much better sized mower for putting in the garage, just watch the line from the controls doesn't get caught up if you drop the handle for storing.
Plenty enough power, though I'm yet to use it through a full summer period.

  • How is this compare to the Victa Classic 4 stroke or the Masport 470 4 stroke? I have a medium size backyard and sometimes need to mown tall grass. I would like to have fresh clean air, no oil or petrol change but not sure if this battery mower have the grunt like the petrol mower. Anyone who used both care to comment?

    • +2

I have had this for a year now after my petrol one caught fire, which is probably because of my poor maintenance… I love it, we have an 800m2 block and I've only ever had to recharge once when I didn't finish it, and it was really tall grass that I let get out of control. Everybody commenting has said the same, but my personal favorite is definitely the low noise and the especially the quiet mode. The quiet mode is great for short grass (lower rpm's) and will ramp up automatically if need be. I can listen to normal headphones with no noise cancelling or hearing protection. And of course lighter, ridiculously easy to start, and also really nice to stop whenever needed rather than keep running.

      • Thanks for this informative comment. This is what I need to know before changing from petrol to battery.

  • We have around 300m2 lawn. Is this sufficient as a mower?

    • +1

i have 250m2 total inc nature strip , ozito 36v brushless mower …..it does it one a charge but i mow regularly so not too long / out of control.
i wouldn’t go back to petrol, even if i needed to recharge to do the total area ….

no oil, no petrol, no servicing, and i use the same batteries for my tools so they are also handy.

      • Thanks I should be good then!
Ordered but no confirmation from Bunnings yet….

  • I need a new mower, what do people think is best this or the Ryobi 18v?

I have a few 18v Ryobi tools already. Need a couple of spare batteries.

    • 18v ….. depends how much area you have, small courtyard and nature strip for single fronted house might be ok ……but i’d look at going 36v and brushless …..

  • For what it's worth, I absolutely love my Makita 36v mower - I got one on Amazon from the UK about 5+ years ago at a stupidly cheap price… it only has a plastic deck, but it's an absolute beast. Quiet to run… and would go through just about anything… including the water meter then I misjudged where that was. Ended up slightly bending the shaft on it, but even after that, it still runs well albeit a bit noisily.

I'd highly recommend this or any of the other Makita 36v mowers - I'd buy one of these if I didn't already have a mower (and two different Makita blowers). My mower had taken a lot of thrashing - covers have been off for years… it's literally just a motor mounted to a piece of plastic with a stack of wires going to a battery plate, but everyone I've shown it to or used it for has been amazed at (1) how quiet it is, (2) how light it is, (3) how easy it is to use.

  • Where does it in bunnings site say the 18v blower is free via redemption?

    • It’s doesn’t - you go via the Makita Au site to claim once you get your sales docket

  • How's this compare to Ryobi One+ 18V 40cm 6.0Ah HP™ Brushless Cordless Lawn Mower?
The Ryobi is about 18 kg whereas this one is 35 kg so Ryobi easier to carry? Other than that I have no idea how to make the differentiation

  • Thanks for posting this

I was looking at the prices for an 18v x 2 mower a year ago and couldn't justify it

Really good deal with the 2 x batteries for my other gear and the blower on redemption which I actually do need too

Went in the morning near me and they only had 2 mowers and I took one but quite a few line trimmers but checking now on the website they are all out so it looks like the deal was pounced upon

  • Im interested in this mower. Was keen on a ego mower but prices for those have recently jumped a lot. I already have an ego whipper snipper which is excellent and have Ozito, Ryobi and some Dewalt gear . I think having many eco systems can have some benefits.

Most battery tools I have acquired over the last year or two have been discounted (thanks ozbargain) and I take the view that I can then jump on skins of tools from 4 or 5 ecosystems if one comes up that Im after .

    • +1

i have ozito, makita, bosch dewalt and aldi ecosystems now ……upside is i just buy the skin i need at the right price, once you have a charger and 2 batteries you can use any skin …..and if my ozito drill battery is flat i use the makita ……manufacturers seem to bundle starter deals hoping they can lock you in …… once you have multiple systems you are “free”.

  • Bought this today! The guy at Bunnings said the sale ends today and goes back up tomorrow for those cobbas on the edge :)

  • +1

Just got one. Assume blower redemption is via the Makita website… which is offline. 🤦‍♂️

    • +1

I just got one too. Just tried to get on the Makita website. Offline as you said.

  • +1

It’s back up to $729 now

  • Can one of you post Your receipts getting it for 660? Bunnings said they are willing to honour this price with valid receipt. Thanks in advance

  • Seems like Makita is the best ecosystem for knock-off skins, batteries, adapters etc. And a lot more garden tools than the other “pro” brands.

  • For those that missed out, I did a price beat at Bunnings via Sydney Tools = $655

    • Yes, but Bunnings now list it same price $728 ?

      • Bunnings price was $729 at 11am this morning

  • Can someone share experience with this one? The weigh is 35.8kg, is it heavy to push? Also I got a Makita power drill and a 3ah battery, thinking to buy this one that comes with 2 x 5ah battery and sell 3ah one. Those batterries should be compatible?

    • +1

According to Makita web site Skin weight 26.2kg
5ah 18V can be used in the drill, I would keep all batteries, not worth it unless you do not use the drill much and get decent $$ from selling the 3ah battery (if old you probably get peanut for it!

    • +1

      It's awesome

I have a 30 year old 4 stroke Masport that is a bugger to start up and loses a bit of power whenever it hits something thick but still chews through anything if need be but this 460mm mower powers through grass better than my old 4 stroke for sure

I don't find it heavy at all compared to my 4 stroke and it makes light work for any standard sized block worth of grass with a lot less noise and without the gassy mess

  • Thanks OP, ordered one from Total Tools, Bunnings was $729 when I placed my order.
Was looking for mower, been monitoring this model.
Found this kit was $729 last week but it's back to $660 on Tuesday (04Oct2022), same for Total Tools and Sydney Tools.
Today (05Oct2022), Total Tools is at $749?!

  • Bought for $660 at Bunnings today. Thanks OP
