I'm not sure if 4% shopback cashback can be approved or not (shopback tells you not to use promo codes) but the transaction tracked with $7.06 pending.

  • Works great, just a poor vibration and Bluetooth 4.2 are only cons i observed

Absolute rubbish. If you're used to Samsung Galaxy watches, avoid this because you'll be very dissapointed.

    • +3

Most android wear stuff is rubbish, including most of Samsungs lineup except the latest which is still average at best.

      • -1

Maybe so, but I found the Samsung Gear far better than this. It is functional and solid.

The TicWatch is plasticky as hell, poorly made and full of crappy apps/bloatware that you can't delete. Trash.

        • They are in totally different price points though, you cant logically compare the two beyond software.

          • -1

@doobey1231: That's a fair statement, but it doesn't detract from the fact that the Ticwatch is garbage. I suppose at this price, it's decent enough for some.

            • +2

@gasman70: One person's garbage is another's treasure. Being stuck in the samsung ecosystem isn't my idea of fun but courses for horses.

Could try uninstalling apps using ADB

          See https://nerdschalk.com/enable-adb-debugging-via-bluetooth-an…

          And https://www.reddit.com/r/TicWatch/comments/cckf2b/made_my_ti…

ADB can allow you to disable even system apps, I believe. You just have to know or find out the package name. I have never done it on a watch, only a phone, but most package names are shown in the google play store URL, or you can start an "ADB shell" and go to the internal storage (on a phone it's /storage/emulated/0 or sometimes /sdcard) or possibly just use a file manager on the watch/phone itself and then go to {internal storage directory}/Android/data/ and you will see a list of data directories for installed apps, with the directory name being the package name that you can use to do the ADB uninstall. Usually something like com.google.maps or com.manufacturer.package

Absolute rubbish. If you're used to Samsung Galaxy watches, avoid this because you'll be very dissapointed.

I went from this TicWatch to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 44mm.

The TicWatch's battery life absolutely shits all over the GW4.

The GW4's vibration motor is much better though.

      • I agree, the battery on the TicWatch is much better, but it's like saying my Fiat uses less fuel than my Ferrari.

        • I agree, the battery on the TicWatch is much better, but it's like saying my Fiat uses less fuel than my Ferrari.

If you're talking about build quality, the Samsung does feel more solid. But there's not much point in having a solid-feeling watch with a flat battery on your wrist. :)

The biggest annoyance with the Galaxy Watch 4 is the really, really stupid digital clock overlay that blocks notifications when they come in, if you use the always-on display. It's so annoying that someone had to make an app to get around it. I could manage the short battery life but the digital clock was really, really annoying. It put me off from getting the GW5.

What a steal! I got it when it was on sale for $262.39 and back then that was the cheapest price around. No regrets, this (one hell of a) watch is worth it.

This is the best smart watch I've used. Easy to sync. Easy to set up. Works seamlessly with google fit and google pay. It has HIIT workouts as an option in the exercise bit, which a lot don't. The dial screen is big and easy to read. Heaps of apps like maps, calendar, messages, weather. At least two days battery life with everything turned on (I take it off at night though). I like it a lot.

  • Thanks OP. I finally bought one

Haven't charged my 3 Ultra since Friday last week and it's still going strong. The trick is to have it go into Essential mode at night.

    • Does it still track sleep and heart rate etc overnight when it is in essential mode?

      • I believe it does through Ticsleep. I don't use it myself.

        • Alrighty. I've got 1 but never put it in essential mode. Might give it a go and see what it does

  • Thanks OP, picked one up to keep the other 5 smartwatches in my draw company :)

    • I did the same thing. The family of neglected tech is slowly growing :D

Double dipping on the same product? Should be in the same post I think

They're different websites and different prices.

      • Doesn’t count if it’s the same seller and the same poster? Genuinely asking, I’ve seen posts taken down for similar stuff I assumed this would be the same.

        • If it was both Amazon or both Mobvoi then it could be merged at moderator discretion. Because there's a different price and a different website it counts as different deals.

  • One thing I hated about my Huawei GT2 (apart from the inaccurate health/fitness tracking sensors) was the cheap-looking plastic back, that looks like it's just been glued to the underside of the watch. Looks like this Ticwatch pro 3 is the same. In comparison, the one-piece aluminium case of my Apple Watch 3 looks like an entirely different level of craftsmanship.

    • +1

You're not wrong, but you're also not paying $175 for that Apple Watch ;)

  • TicWatch goes TikTo(c)k?

  • I'm impressed - good battery life without the tic sleep app. Has HR, HRV and SPO2 measurement and you can use it to publish hr data to other devices via a 3rd party app.

I'd just like to highlight the point from a previous discussion at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/718831 that the Google Assistant does not actually work with this watch. One of my main points for getting a smartwatch is that I could just set reminders with it on the go using my voice. But based on my own brief testing and as described in that discussion, if your language setting is anything other than EN-US, the Assistant simply does not work.
Now, I might be missing something or have something misconfigured, but I figured I could probably live with that language setting, so testing the reminders with the phone set to EN-US, I can set them on the watch and they appear on my phone and Google account. However, the notifications about those reminders only show up on my phone, but not on the watch! All other notifications seem to work normally. I've done some basic troubleshooting, such as making sure I've got the Google app set to send notifications to watch, I have the Google Calendar set to send notifications to watch (and actual calendar events do work with watch notifications!). What I don't know is if those reminders would work on any other Wear smartwatch, but as it stands currently, this one is useless to me when it comes to it. Although having said that, everything else seems pretty nice, general speed of use and especially the battery saving essential mode.

    • +1

You'll have to.work through which Calendar app does what. From memory the phone's Wear OS app will only sync "Agenda" from one calendar app. So you need to make sure that calendar app has all the calendars (and hence reminders) you want synced.

      • That is a good point, but I have a Pixel 6 Pro and the only calendar app that is installed is Google's own. And adding a reminder using the watch and voice does actually does add it to the calendar on the mobile. It's just that the notification of that reminder does not show up on the watch. Or more precisely, it does not alert/vibrate on the watch, but I discovered that it is actually visible in the Reminders app on the watch, but marked as snoozed!
Found this on Googles issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/76440681?pli=1
So Google's conclusion is that they know about it, but just don't care. Now, I wonder why Wear OS smartwatches aren't more popular…

        • Yep. Google did as Google does and just abandoned it.

Unless the Pixel Watch is some sort of globally outstanding success (unlikely given its specs and limitations) they'll kill Wear OS at end of year.

  • price aside, the processor is over 2 years old in this watch, won't that have a significant impact on watch performance with current software installed?

    • It doesnt have current software installed. Remember developers for Telegram, Strava and others already abandoned Wear OS 2 last year.

That said, the upcoming Pixel Watch has an old processor too, possibly older.
