Tegel Take Outs Nashville Style is so damn good! Bought a pack 2 months ago and only tried them earlier today since they are now on special at half price. Whacked them into the air fryer for around 18 minutes at 190 and turned out so juicy and it packs a punch in heat as well which is great! So much better than wicked wings from KFC!

Highly recommend!!!

Other Tegel Take Outs range are ½ price as well

I like a good hot sauce personally so haven't tried it but I imagine a chipotle mayo would go well, my wife especially likes the peri-peri-naise with these.

    • Hard to go past Hellmann's or Best Foods.

  • Are these halal?

About %60 chicken and %20 chemicals. No thanks

  • I decided to try this based on the rave reviews.

I didn't like it at all. The bones were all red, had it in the air fryer for 19 mins as suggested above, still looked raw, so put it for another 10. Probably will try the packet recommendation next time at 40-50 mins.

The crispy skin was salty and fell off the chicken easily, not comparable to KFC.

Some people mentioning 19 mins cook time are talking about the burgers, not the pieces. Burgers are much smaller than the pieces.

      Burgers - 20 mins
      Pieces - 40 mins

  • +1

needs 50 mins in the air fryer and i have it at 190 deg, awesome
obviously everyone's is different, play around with it.. try 40 mins work up.. obviously you dont want to overcook/dry it out..

    • +4

50 minutes is way too long and it will most likely either burn the outside of the chicken or dry it out on the inside or both. You probably only need around 20 - 25 minutes.

It takes 50 minutes to cook a decent sized roast in the air fryer. These are only chicken pieces so definitely reduce the cooking time.

Ended up cooking around 4 pieces in the air dryer a few days ago and it turned out really nice after 23 minutes and I'm only using a Kmart Air Fryer.

my cheapo Mistral airfryer from Auspost.. takes that long.. phillips etc will be much shorter i am sure

  • Is this better than KFC?

  • For a frozen thats a great challenge to KFC. But I wonder about the freshness.

literally just finished 2 nashville wings to see what the fuss is all about. But more importantly if it comes close to Wicked wings.

    pro.
    * impressively crunchy batter and not teeth breaker either. - 18 mins 180C in Kmart AirFryer turned the wings perfectly cooked (but the thicker sliced thighs still had some almost cooked through blood coming out .. so give another 4mins would be perfect)
    * impressively juicy cooked.
    * Didn't find it too salty.
    * Wasn't too spicy (this maybe a con for others)
    * can pass for an AirFryer Korean chicken if you made your own sauce

    cons.
    * Flavour wise compared to Wicked Wings.. Hands down Wicked Wings (until u get that I feel sick feeling from eating too much oil) wins. Taste wise didn't win me to stock up on…
    * Lottery on what pieces you end up with. I had 4 wings 1 thigh and a breast on the pack.

.. now onto the next two other flavors tomorrow

fillets were a bit salty eaten by itself. Depends on your Air fryer (mines Kmart ones) 18mins cooked through and crumbs tasted a little burnt. Worked out ok as a burger with cheese and coleslaw Aldi and some mayo. No chilli on these. My toddler took off the crumbs and ate the chicken (so must've noticed the saltiness).

no doubt it's good value for $7.

I agree with other comment if they didn't go wild with salt on the crumbs it would work out well with other sauces..

        I won't be buying another pack…

        I'll try the last pack….

Ok. I'm sickened and chickened out after eating 3 wings from Louisiana pack.

5 freaken wings & 3 drumstick! Unlucky dip. I like my thighs!

this time 20mins @180 was still a little bloody so gave another 5mins. The wings were big size.

Chomping on after resting the chook for 5mins after cooking Plus straight after a black coffee… I was more aware it seemed above avg saltier than Nashville (then again maybe Nashville was just being masked by the spiciness).

Crumbing on these did tend to chip off in chunks.

Flavorwise Louisiana was kinda confusing to my taste buds. Well subjective but quite sickening after the third wing. it just left me with the feeling of im sooo done!!! if you asked. me what it tasted like my answer is a big HUH????

just my personal take.. I prob won't even consider the Louisiana pack even if it was to go on sale below $4.98/kg.

to conclude this impulsive venture… I'll take the air fryer salt and pepper chicken anyday over these three packaged chook.

  • These chicken been brined to remain juicy.

    • +1

Good! If you're not brining your chicken you're doing it wrong.

  • 60% real chicken - dayum. So 40% of non-chicken stuff remaining? I never cared when I was younger!

Have you found any frozen packs with higher % of chicken?

I bought a pack of steggles chicken nuggets from costco and they are also 60% chicken breast. I thought that was already really good.

Family Faves from Coles are absolute trash with only 37%.

My favourite of all time is Steggles flaming wings 81% chicken and it is amazing.

      • It on special for $9, I'll pick up some to try.

        • Where?

          • +1
            • @O O: how was the trying?

              • +1

@capslock janitor: I'm a picky eater, here just my 2c. I prefer the Steggles flaming wings, inot really wings per se, there's a mixt of drumsticks and mid-joint wings. A little of kick of spice, not as hot as Nashville, nor as plain as Louisiana.

It's because the mid-joint wings and drumsticks are easier to oven bake evenly. Now, I understand why some people said the Tegel needs longer baking time than 20 mins, because there are some maryland cut.

I'll pick up some Aldi's one to try.

                • @O O: cheers

keep me posted on the aldi's lol

havent tried yet it's in my freezer

      • Have you found any frozen packs with higher % of chicken?

FYI bought this 82% chicken from ALDI deal!

Bought the burgers a few months ago. Bit into one and it had the texture of rubber, literally. Never experienced anything like it before. It was foul. Threw out the bag.

    • Probably undercooked, mate.

  • Can I ask if the burger meat is breast still together and not reconstitued?

Bought some birds eye tenders that I thought were premium but turned out tot be rubbish.

    • +1

      It is real chicken breast

      • +1

Pretty sure. Taste and look like it.

i have enjoyed all the reviews likening KFC to an unmatchable fine dining experience

I have bought into the hype and got some of the burgers today to try 1 of the breasts for lunch and was pretty impressed for it being a FROZEN product. gotta keep those expectations in check!

phillips air fryer did a great job it was crunchy and not dry and with a little bit of chipotle it was quick, cheap and easy!

  • These are wild! Good deal OP

At half price theyre great value. Big pieces of chicken too

Bought 2 yesterday. Too salty imo. Woulda been great if they do not season the coating so I can use my own buffalo sauce.

  • how many patties in the bag?

  • just tried the louisiana portions, didn't find them too salty
