    Great price!

  • uh, if only i could return my laptop now and get this instead

    • Why can't you?

      • +7

got the 3070 version about 11 months ago so it's over the 30 day return policy

        • +1

Oh damn! That must hurt but such is the OzB life

          • +1

@dealsforlife: I mean doesnt hurt seeing as i got mine for 2.6k back then but would still consider this a better deal just because of the ti version

  • +1

Dunno about a 3070ti at this price, as its about 300$ extra more than last years 3070 deals LP5 3070 L5Pi 3070 at around the same point in time. Theres even god tier L5P 3070 deals at only 2k. The difference in performance is certainly not worth the 900$ in my book, 3070ti is such a small upgrade from the 3070. At nearly 3k, I would wait for the M17r5 deal with the 6850m which is also only 3 grand.

    • +4

CPU. ddr5, large upgrades. 32gb ram, cost heaps more then 16gb

      • +4

The first L5P deal I posted also comes with 32gb ram, you are paying a premium with ddr5 anyways as ddr5 sodimm at current speeds and latency is such a negligible upgrade over DDR4 sodimm. Plenty of reviews have reinforced this issue. You are also looking at very small fps gains with the cpu upgrades this year. Multicore wise yes its a pretty nice gain compared to both ryzen 5000 and intel 11th gen, but most people buy this for games and most games cant even use past 4 cores efficiently.

        • So what's your alternative to buying this at a similar specs and cheaper?

          • +2

@HandsomeMonkey: I would just wait for a better deal honestly, even if its Legion Im sure this is far from the best deal we will see. We are already going into Q4. New gen cpu & gpus are dropping in like 4 months and these have to go down in price. There was the Strix AE with 6800M deal for 2.3k earlier and if you pair that with an external monitor and some faster x8 ram it would crush the 3070ti as far as fps is considered.

If 2.9k is a bit too steep for you, you can also consider the Dell G15 with 12700H/3070ti for 2199. The screen is crap on this machine, it doesn get as good cooling and you dont get the 32gb ram, but for a difference of 700$ thats something which can be remedied down the line, at least partially.

            • -1

@Brrrrt: Your explanations is reasonable.. but I don't think I'll ever spend that kind of money for a gaming laptop. It's probably easier just to game on consoles for 1/3 of the price of a gaming laptop..

            • @Brrrrt: Appreciate your posts - convinced me to wait a little longer. Dream is either the Razer Blade 17 or L5P with 3060 + 1tb for under $2k, or a tad more for the 3070. May be in for a bit of a wait given I’ve missed recent deals :(

            • +2

@Brrrrt: Crap screen? I have the G15 5520 with i7 12700H, 3070ti, and the 165HZ 1080P screen. I think the screen is a perfect match for the GPU and looks great, very colour accurate from the reviews and gets pretty bright too. Very responsive and far better than the 120HZ screen that is on some G15 models.

Yes the cooling is not great but can still more than handle the components inside with some tweaking.

I don’t have any major complaints with my G15. At the end of the day it’s a more budget gaming laptop chassis with high end specs. Regardless it still works well.

Currently these laptops can be found refurbished on the Dell outlet store for as little as $1869 on the Dell outlet store making it a great deal for a laptop with a 150W RTX 3070Ti (after vBios update).

              • @ChineseElectronics: My 'crap' statement was referring to when compared against the Legion 5 pro's screen, where its a 1440p165hz with HDR400 vs a 1080p165hz panel without HDR. Against some other panels, sure, you at least got 100% srgb, and the response times were decent. As for thermals, I cant really call it better than l5p's can I.

By the way, are you certain on the 150w vbios? That would make it higher than the M15R7s with identical cooling solution. Unless Dell also updated the wattage on these as well.

And yes, dell outlet is always a place to find bargains, just that we cant really post these on here as per the guidelines there is insufficient quantity.

                • +1

@Brrrrt: Yeah I haven’t posted the deal because I’m unsure of the quantity in stock.

I am serious about the wattage - after doing a vBios update it shows in NVDIA control panel and GPUZ that the maximum TGP is now 150W and it will draw that wattage under certain scenarios - excellent GPU performance.

1440P is unnecessary for gamers (at least) at this size and puts more strain on the GPU in game. Everyone and their mother knows HDR400 is a useless gimmick too.

                  • @ChineseElectronics: yeah ssshhhhh mate you just triggered all of ozb because folks here wanted their QHD with hdr panels

As for the wattage-thats actually nice to hear, this brings it up on par with legion and every full powered 3070ti machines out there.

    • +2

I got the m17r5 with 6850m xt, excellent laptop, comes with 1tb ssd also a better screen for almost the same price tag.

      • How does it do with gaming and cooling? Does it stay cool while gaming? Had a metabox gaming laptop and it was trash with keeping cool. How does m17r5 compare?

        • It’s a larger laptop, so thermals are much cooler than my previous 1070 15 inch lappy. But still it’s a laptop, and not super thick, will always have heat issues, unless you use it as a desktop replacement with suction fans.

Are you buying these for all of Australia?

      • All of Australian?
        No

  • +2

Weirdly the price is higher in the Edu store, $3023, because you can't use coupon IGD22

    • Im seeing far less deals on the edu store than the actual normal store actually. Feels like edu store is only good if you want a machine now and cant wait for a sale.

    • Funny enough I got this experience with Dell too.

  • Does cashback still work if you get a custom price off the support chat?

    • +1

      no negotiated deals for cashback

    • How much cheaper can the chat gets you? Wondering if its worth the effort.

      • +1

I asked if the 10% off on first purchase could be applied but it wont work with any promotion codes. They said they could apply the $100 off if I wanted to go through with the checkout. I decided not to buy since I will be building a new PC once the new CPUs and GPUs release. Tempting deal though.

How many watts does the 3070ti in this run at? Anyone got feedback on how the 12th gen CPU goes in terms of thermals?

    • +2

125w+25w dynamic boost. Thermals are fine, and legion cooling is pretty decent to begin with.

Just note with the 12th gen non hk/hx chips you cant undervolt anymore.

    • +1

I have this machine and thermals are very good for both the CPU and GPU. In performance mode, the GPU would draw 150W consistently throughout the entire gaming session. When placed flat on a table with no fan assistance, the CPU would range betweeen 65-75C and GPU would range between 75-82C (performance mode). In auto mode (112-120W), the GPU would be in the sub-80C. I think it is very good. The keyboard deck doesn't feel warm at all.

Best thing of all in auto mode, the fan isn't loud at all! Even in performance mode, the fan noise is still acceptable for a gaming laptop. With a cooling pad, both CPU and GPU would drop around 5-8C so it does benefit from additional airflow. Even putting the laptop on a vertical stand improves thermals considerably.

  • -3

Trash piece of hardware. Wait for the legion 7i gen 7 to be released in Australia. Will probably only cost 4k after discounts at the end of the year.

12900HX CPU pulls 150watts alone. Paired with an full wattage 3080ti which has a total TGP of 175W will make this a desktop replacement capable of gaming while you travel for meetings. Coupled with a best in class exclusive vapour chamber cooling will keep thermals cool during intensive tasks.

Probably the top of the line maxed performance you can get from a laptop other than the MSI series.

  • Very attractive price for this beast.

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK1HbpUoxyE Jarrod Tech review of this laptop. Albeit the one that he reviews has only 16GB of RAM

  • anyone able to recommend me some good options for a 2.2k budget, ideally 3060 or 3070. i think this one a bit too much but seems like a good deal.

    • +2

Dell G15 for 2199. Same cpu & gpu combo as this deal. 16g/512gb. Worse panel but 700$ cheaper so that’s that.

      • thank you this is a solid choice

  • +1

Can someone help to explain why is this deal getting more love than https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720978 ?

I am tossing up between these two laptops. Im looking for a laptop which I can also do work on the commute to work so good battery life is ideal

    • +1

Legion Slim uses low powered gpu and people wanted better performance so yeah.

Neither machine will bring you much battery life, you wanted to look at one with an AMD processor.

    • +2

That model has a RTX3060 TGP of 100W. There is one review on Youtube that shown the CPU gets pretty toasty and needs to be power limited. BTW the Legion 7/Slim Gen 7 is using a unibody design so its great if thats what you're after. If its the slimness that you're after, I think this the Legion 5/5i Pro is acceptable. The Legion 5 Gen 7's thickness has been reduced a bit this year and it is using aluminium and magnesium throughout including the chassis (except for plastic keyboard deck and trackpad).

Therefore I would say this deal is a more well rounded gaming laptop.

      • Thanks Brrrt and Davesday, appreciate your comments. I'll look for a laptop with AMD processor to get more battery life

  • I literally just purchased this configuration a few days ago, didn't think to dispute the $100 for $1500 spend coupon not working with the IGD22 code. I still have much to learn as an ozbarginer.

I'm going to try contacting to see if I can get a refund.

  • How does this compare to my 2021 Lenovo Legion 7 16ACHg6:

    Ryzen 9 5900HX 16 Core(s)
    32GB RAM DDR4-3200
    16GB RTX 3080 1545 MHz/1710 MHz (165W)

Got mine from grays auction in Nov 21 for just under $3090 inclusive of all fees n charges
it was a retail return refurb with 12mnths warranty, apparently RGB lighting doesnt work (turned out to be switched off using the functions keys lol, I turned it back on and works fine but i switch it off anyway)

i know i dnt have PCIe 4.0 but i wldnt be planning on upgrading to PCIe 4.0 any time soon as i have 2x 2TB PCIe 3 Samsung 970 drives (which I ended getting for free) and also ram is DDR4 not DDR5, other than that how is the performance in this machine compared to mine specifically:
    i7-12700H vs 5900HX ,and
    RTX 3070ti vs RTX 3080

Any significant performance advantage of this over mine or vice versa, worth upgrading assuming i can get some good coin for reselling mine

    • -1

I think you got a good price considering it's basically new at the time. I don't think 12th gen intel was available in the legion 5 pro at the time, no point really comparing.

This would be roughly 15% faster all around, nothing life changing.

      • Thanks for that

Mine is actually Legion 7 not 5 Pro, and yeah your right there was no 12th gen available at the time, i remember correctly ppl still ordereing 5pro with Ryzen 7s and waiting 8 weeks for shipping

so 15% performance increase of this 5pro over my legion 7 is that based on all aspects together cpu gpu ram and pcie 4 or is based on the 12th gen cpu out performing my Ryzen 9 cpu, or the 3070ti out performing my 3080
i know its probably hard to pin point as these are things that all work with each other

if i were to upgrade i wld replace the 512gb pcie 4 drive and install my 2 2tb pcie3 drives as i value the extra storage more
so this 5pro running my 2 pcie3 drives would still perform better and my legion 7?

    • +3

I disagree with shacktool. This 5pro is definitely not 15% all around faster than your legion7. Certainly not in gaming.

For one, you still got the edge GPU wise. About 5% extra cuda cores, double the vram, not to mention the 3080 runs at 150w guaranteed +15w DB versus the 3070ti here at 125w guaranteed +25w DB. Check out Jarrods benchmark for the 5ipro here timestamped you can see how it stacks up to other laptops, including the 2021 Legion 7, spoiler alert: it runs slower. Games are much more GPU demanding than they are CPU wise, who would have thought?

Now with the CPU, this is where it gets interesting. You are seeing a 25% gain in multicore and about a 16% increase in single core, if we are basing purely off benchmarks. but that comes down to another problem-power scaling. Intel only scales better than Ryzen past 45w or so, and unless your workload is only CPU intensive-as it was in benchmarks, than its hard to say how much actual improvement you will see. As when the GPU draws power, the CPU takes less and in a 15' gaming laptop, the power scheduling when both are under load would usually be 45w for the cpu while the rest is allocated for the GPU.

There is one thing thats better with the intel chip though-24mb l3 cache vs 16mb, this will help with fps in games and 1% lows etc. But again, counting everything? Overall difference is much smaller than meets the eye. Especially when you consider most games or programs cant utilise more than 4 cores or so.

      • Thanks

      • I myself had bought the Asus Strix G15 with R9-5900HX + Radeon RX 6800M deal just the day before this deal came out and was wondering if I was too hasty (needed a laptop as I'll be travelling in mid Oct, away for months), considering the Asus Strix G15 needs an upgrade to dual rank 32gb ram to match this making it cost even more- but what you said about power scaling is really interesting, giving hope to me that maybe real life usage wouldnt be such a big difference as the synthetic benchmarks make it seem. I think the dual rank ram in the Asus will help with the fps in games by like 20% but I wonder how much it will help the R9-5900HX in cpu benchmark scores as well.

Thank you for your insightful contributions to this thread btw

    • +1

I think you have a pretty solid machine right there. CPU seems to be better and GPU is definitely better. DDR5 has no performance advantage at this stage and PCIe 4.0 doesn't improve game performance considerably unless you do a lot of file transfer which is probably not a use case of a laptop. I wouldn't look back! You have a solid machine at a bargain price.

However one very small downside of your model is the Corsair iCue software which kills battery life. It is the reason why most kill the application/service anyway. So yeh, keep it disabled. It looks better although you 'do' lose 5% of performance without RGB. LOL!

      • +1

        Thanks
Yeah i have disabled corsair software. i dont use the RGB lighting anyway, i have this basically as a desktop replacement so got it connected to 34" widescreen monitor and 2x 27" monitors, and using a external keyboard/mouse sound have no real use for rgb lighting

  • Bummer thats its 2.4kg, needing something with similar specs maybe smaller screen <2kg as working FIFO.

  • $2849 for the 1TB once chat applies the $100 off.

    • Weirdly that one comes with 1 year warranty rather than 2…if that's important to anyone. $134 to increase that to 3 years.

  • Hi. Chat people didn't apply the $100 discount. Any idea how to make it happen?

  • Bit the bullet, new job told me to go buy a new laptop and this is right within budget 😂

    • Has anyone that got one, had theirs dispatched yet?

I went onto chat to ask and they told me they'd let me know via email in 2-3 business days - WTF!
