France's Macron says it's the end of an era of abundance, what are thoughts on the coming financial times?

Looking on YouTube lots of doom and gloom on the horizon. will governments let us feel pain? Will the house of cards fall over.. what will be the impact what is everyone doing to prepare or will it be smooth sailing in the future?

Yeah never really liked them anyway. I can do without them.

There's so much good stuff on YouTube that doesn't involve political BS.

Watch that stuff and enjoy life.

    • +6

But these are still some real things though that affects all of us..
Isn’t it almost our civic duty to atleast know what’s happening around us ?

      • +1

…absolutely it is. the world changed dramatically 2.5 years ago and we are in the throes of tumultuous change….that seems to have no clear end in sight

    • burying your head in the sand will not stop The Great Reset….

      • +1

It might help you find some bugs though…

        • lol…this will be an invaluable survival skill going forward

What you seek is what you’ll find.

Wait, you can afford a house of cards?
Damn rich people these days always gloating in the face of the poor….

    Looking on YouTube

    Oof

    • …as opposed to the 'rest of the internet' which is all 100% correct & accurate as we all know…..

This comedy just can't get any more pathetic. The whole situation is self-inflicted (irrespective of your opinion of recent events) and all of it is avoidable.

They simply lead the people into voting for more kicking the can down the road and also to pay the price of someone else's mistake.

And now the pied pipers come to collect and once again the people are being asked to tighten their belts.

  • +3

The more you watch something, the more they'll recommend that thing.

  • +6

Eat the rich. What we need to stop doing it giving CEO’s multi-million dollar golden parachutes for basically doing (fropanity) all. Stop putting shareholders before employees. Stop putting stupid profits before people and the environment.

And if Macron is saying it, it will be interesting, because the French are known for dragging the Uber wealthy out into the streets and cutting their heads off. I’m looking forward to it. I hope there will be a dedicated streaming service where I can watch.

    • -3

      Eat the rich

I agree. The rich are the cause of the problem.

Let's start with the ones in positions of power, ie Parliament. #AlbaneseOut.

      • -1

What, and install Dutton? You are off your meds if you think Dutton is a better PM prospect than Albo… Your last PM was a shitbag as well (Not to mention all of your LNP members at the state level. Corrupt much??) and Dutton is up to his neck in shifty detention centre rorts and hanging out with drug couriers.

And Albo has only been in the job a few months, how about we give him a little more time to fix all of the LNP (fropanity) ups of the last few years and get on with Labor's policies before we shitcan the guy.

Federal ICAC now and that Liberal shitbag Morrison is first on the block and then line that Voldemort looking Dutton creep up next.

        • +3

          and install Dutton

Before writing that comment, did you consider the possibility that maybe he doesn’t like either of them ?
You just wrote up a whole comment based on a supposition. Damn.

        • +3

(profanity) no, the LNP are just a sister company of Labor. Both major parties work together to protect their duopoly and keep everyone else out while they get filthy rich. Wake up.

It's just baffling how some people can say "those damn rich people" while they actively cheerlead for them and do exactly what they say. Albo was an easy example because he's the archetype of conning poor people to vote for him with empty promises.

      • +2

Let's start with the ones in positions of power, ie Parliament. #AlbaneseOut.

Oh yeah because a guy who was made PM a mere two months ago is the problem, not the Bezos's and Musk's of the world.

Some people will do anything to make it polit…..oh hey SlavOz, didn't know it was you. This'll be fun.

        • +1

Bezos and Musk don't have the power to control your life.

          Albanese does.

Do you not see the danger of giving rich people that power over you? It's hilarious when the SJW types claim to hate the rich yet consistently vote for them. Is it only some rich people who are bad then?

          • +2

            @SlavOz:

Bezos and Musk don't have the power to control your life.

Then you don't know how economics and politics work. Politics is about doing the will of the highest bidder. These mega wealthy individuals and corporations absolutely have the power to control your life. If they want a law changed, all they have to do is buy up politicians and control the media.

Your lord and savior Murdoch is a classic example of this. The guy controls most of the media and they only print his agenda… but then again, since you buy into most of his bullshit you wouldn't see it that way. You are a classic example of someone controlled by the Murdoch mouth pieces.

And we don't have to give rich people the power over us, as they already have it. My bet is you work for a company with a wealthy owner/CEO and they dictate your worth to them, then you go home in your Mustang that probably has a loan on it (almost all Mustangs do) and that loan is owed to a large corporation that decides how much extra you have to pay them back, back to your rented house, owned by a land lord that decides how much you have to pay, to eat the food you bought at a chain of corporate stores that rip you off as well as the farmers that supply it… Now tell me the rich dont control us.

Right wing nut jobs need to pull their heads out of their collective arses and stop being the cucked soy boy white knights to the rich and powerful. Being an apologist for the mega wealthy is not going to make them want to give you any of their wealth. It's the societal equivalent of being in the friend zone.

            • @pegaxs: Make up your mind dude. Are rich people bad or not? You keep shifting the rules like any good Guardian reader.

Rich people bad, but you celebrated and voted for one of them to control your life.

Rich people bad, but you demanded the working class Aussies be forced to subsidise big pharma during the pandemic.

Rich people bad, yet it seems to consistently be upper class rich areas that vote with you to the left.

Rich people bad, but Muh Dan Andrews should get a pay rise for doing such a good job.

It's hard to keep up with you lot because you never actually practice what you preach. You just expect everyone else to live by your ideals because apparently you have some special RichVision eyesight that let's you see which rich people are good and which ones are bad.

          • +1

What are you on mate, and can I get some?

    • +1

The rich are not the problem, they are the ones ably supporting themselves and the rest of Australia.

The bottom rungs are the issue, they don't pay taxes and just take and take in Welfare.

      • AI, technology and automation is taking over more and more jobs everyday…there will be many many more people in the future not able to acquire work or pay taxes. the jobs just wont exist.

        • +1

Yet here we are in the midst of a global labour shortage.

          • +2

@JIMB0: It's not even a labour shortage, it's a wages shortage. The rich and the corporate want you to think it is a labour shortage, when what they really should be saying is "we cant get workers to work for the dirt, rock bottom dollar that we want to pay them." There are plenty of people happy to work, just not for $10/h while some desk jockey, seat warming prick gets $200,000 a year + bonuses for answering a phone and going to "meetings".

I love shutting boomers down when they go on with this "they're just too lazy to work" or "I only got $5 and hour when I had a job…" but fail to realise that people are sick of housing costing a million dollars and getting paid barely enough to buy food and expecting entry level positions applicants to have 5 to 10 years experience when these boomers had management positions with no experience, free or very cheap education and $5 would get you a full tank of fuel and a packet of darts for the drive home and a house that cost 5 years wages, not 20 years wages.

It's a wage shortage, not a labour shortage.

            • +1

              @pegaxs:

              "I only got $5 and hour when I had a job…"

I mean, ignoring the astronomical rise in house prices compared to the median/average wage, do they not understand how inflation works?

I'm in my mid 30's and my first job paid something similar cash in hand and I wasn't complaining, but it was pocket money for video games, not to buy a house and support a family.

Facts are facts. Back in the days of boomers they could walk out of highschool and get a job that would support a family and buy a house with a car.

The equivalent now would be trying to do that on an Uber driver salary.

  • -2

Maybe, I mean you look throughout history and at no period in time did people have it as luxurious as we do now, especially in Western countries. There has always been collapses so there's no reason to believe why we're immune now. The other thing is that climate change, economic instability, and war are real threats. Climate change is already affecting crops and such. We are so dependent on China that if they collapse or if they decide to not play ball, then we're pretty screwed.

  • +2

Just learn to live with less and less and know it can all be gone tomorrow.

    • +3

you will own nothing & be happy

      • +2

Those in denial will will feel it most

  • +5

The problem is, when these rich people tell us to prepare for sacrifices or hardship, they never mean themselves. They want the working class to eat the bugs or give up their heating so there's more good stuff left over for the elites.

It's quite worrying how eager people are to dig their own grave just because some rich greedy turd said so. (profanity) what they say. Let Bill Gates eat the bugs and set a good example, why would you do it on his behalf? You're basically just a pawn.

    • +5

The peak irony - The elites keep buying beach houses, whilst tweeting about cLiMaTe cHaNgE.

      • +1

actors politicians and the elite will lead by example and show us the way

  • -1

The end of abundance is certainly coming, but unlike previous eras, ours is going to be man-made or forced. They already made it illegal to see your friends or spend time with your family, the test run was a success. Now they're trying to make it illegal to eat meat, drive to work, store wealth, etc.

They want the West to become like the 3rd world where there is no middle class. Just the rich elites and the poor.

Anyone with a brain would start preparing. Buy a gun, invest in a plot of land, learn scavenging or crafting skills, start growing your own food, and maybe put some canned stuff aside for a rainy day.

When shit hits the fan, the people that prepared will be forced to subsidise those who didn't, just like everything else in Australia. I won't be taking part. What's mine is mine, I will not subsidise your stupid decision to take out a mortgage you can't afford or to trust the government to put food in your belly. You do what you think is best, I'll do what I think is best. Let's see who comes out on top.

    • I won't be taking part

      Because you're leaving the country….right?

    • +2

I never understand you doomers/preppers. Why would you dial the self-reliance up to ludicrous pseudo-misanthropic levels, when the people that survive what you all fear is coming are going to be those people that aren't assholes (or if they are, at least they have useful skills that others can benefit from)?

Stockpiling land, weapons and food while simultaneously burning all of your bridges just guarantees that nobody is going to miss you when your compound gets stormed and you were caught off-guard because it's hard to use the buddy system when you don't have a buddy.

      • +1

Oh, I believe in the buddy system. This is why I was equally puzzled when everyone was so quick to dob in their neighbours or turn on their own community during covid just to be the government's pet rat.

The government won't cook your kids dinner if you're running late at work, or let the plumber in while you're not home. Only your neighbours do that but I doubt anyone in Australia values that enough.

If I am in a position to help others, such as by lending spare food to my neighbour, I may or may not do so, at my discretion, depending on what I get out of it. If it's my left neighbour who tried to dob me in during COVID then no. If it's my right neighbour who helped me protect my rights, yes I'll happily share my canned beans.

What I will not do is let the government take all my food and redistribute evenly to whoever they feel is worthy. (profanity) right off with that. I will not be subsidising a country that celebrated my loss of rights over the last 2 years and telling me I don't deserve a job because I didn't take my jab. According to those losers, I should be dead by now anyway. But I'm still alive despite ignoring their advice. I think I'll keep doing that.
