  • So this would replace the Telstra router i currently have? Plug the telstra modem into this, or would it be incompatible?

    • +1

      What NBN technology?

      Fttn - connect to modem
      Others - connect to NTD.

      • I can't remember which one it is, i think it's Fttn…

        • Check your address on NBN site

          • +1

@bananabendera: Thanks, i checked and it says hfc.

            • @OzBoganYeah: NTD = Network termination device. Usually branded with 'NBN' logo. It's probably this - https://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbn/images/page-images/…

An NTD translates the HFC signal into internet, and this NTD will be fixed to your particular address - you can't get rid of it.

The port labelled UNI-D1 on the back of the NTD is connected via ethernet cable to your router's WAN port.

Your router acts as a gateway for your other devices. The router in this ad (now sold out) would replace the router, not the NTD.

Damn so cheap. Too bad Bought tp link for $150 …..

This is the last time i buy anything non xiaomi.
They make everything with fractions of price, and good quality too.

  • So we're FTTN, with a DSL line into our Telstra-provided modem router. So we'd piggyback this thing directly into our existing router via network cable, correct?

    • +1

Yep..set the Telstra router to run in bridge mode, set up auth on this router..

OOI, what issues are you facing with the Telstra router?

      • Thanks - but it sold out just as I was in the process of buying the last one. Oh well…

Only that it get's flaky reaching down the far end of our single-storey house. Our echo devices down there drop in an out a few times a day, which is annoying. We connected a PoE extender which sits within a metre of the echo, but that only seems to reduce drop out frequency a little (which seems bogus).

  • Bet this would be fun to get working with TPG

  • Good price, but OP should mention that this is the Chinese version, not Global and it has the Chinese GUI and plug.

Is there a third party confirmation that this GAOTONG chip does not have any backdoor?

    • This Gaotong means Qualcomm

  • can 2 of these be meshed.
