  • Needed some new multi grips which are also on clearance for $19. Cheers OP

Wouldn't this be better value? https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-plier-se…
    Difference in lengths though

    • +6

This set you posted is better value if you rarely use them. If you use pliers often or everyday I would go with the kincrome options.

      • -1

thanks, seems like Kincrome is the preferred on this thread

    • -2

it's not better value if the quality is worse, thus requiring you to continually buy replacements, is it?

      • Well I didn't know the quality was worse, did I?
Going off OP 'Reviews say they are good', I went off and found these with just as much, if not better reviews as per website

  • +1

I thought ozb into made in Germany pro tools from Amazon. Lol

    • +3

      I don't buy anything else.

Only European, US, Taiwanese and Japanese tools for me.

I won't touch any tool made in China.

      • +2

Once, I found on clearance at Total Tools some Sidchrome side cutters, but they were made in France! So much better the stuff out of China.

My socket sets etc are made in Taiwan (Sidchrome and Kincrome). I don't mind the occasional Bahco too.

        • +3

          Bahco is an excellent brand.

When I was an apprentice electrician many moons ago, it was drummed into to me to buy the best tools you can afford - and I still have some of those tools from back then.

If money is tight, I reckon it's best to buy the best hand tools but skimp on the power tools. A crap drill is still going to make a hole but a crap pair of pliers, for instance, are just shit to use.

    • +5

Buy the right tools first time and you'll never have to buy tools again.

      • This.

        No question.

      • +1

Fed up with cheap crap, spent more money on crap useless tools, eventually bought good quality, albeit, more expensive gear and all I could think of was "why didn't I do this before" and "why did I put up with and bother trying with all that crap before"

Now I just buy decent, good quality tools and the higher price is more worth it.

      • +1

except 10mm sockets. always having to buy those for some reason.

  • +1

I found a pair at a store not far from me. Thank goodness for Click & Collect.

Aldi VDE Pliers are a much better buy at $9.99 each and they are insulated to 1000v.

    • +11

I'm a qualified (although non-practicing) electrician and IMO 1000V insulated hand tools are kind of nonsense. You should not be working on anything live - ever. You isolate, lock out and test - then test again, then work. If you get a shock, then you haven't implemented the previous steps. When I was doing my apprenticeship, we used to sometimes work live, but those days are long gone - and it was stupid anyway.

    • +1

you're comparing aldi tools to a trusted brand like kincrome? lol

      • I wouldn't exactly call them trusted, so many things from them have been crap.

        • so many things from them have been crap.

          sounds like aldi as well.

          • @tdw: Yeah, on the trusted scale for tools Aldi is virtually at the bottom and Kincrome only a few rungs above them.

    • I'd like to see their test certificate for the 1000V electrical insulation claim before I would consider buying these for this reason.

  • Got a few different xforce models on clearance. Got a couple. Cheers.

  • These are a great alternative, which i've been using for a few years now - https://www.tradetools.com/renegade-industrial-3pc-plier-set…

They have a limited lifetime warranty, same as Kincrome.

  • +1

This will go great with me and the wife’s foreplay

    • +3

      that's why it's pronounced kinc-rome.

  • +1

This set is another alternative if you need all three tools: https://www.bunnings.com.au/nws-3-piece-classic-plier-set_p6…
While it's a shorter length diagonal cutter and costs few extra dollars, it's a quality brand made in Germany.

    • -1

do you have these? couldn't find on the bunnings page if they're actually made in Germany, just says "German engineered."

      • +2

I see the tools themselves have "Made in Germany" stamped into them just below the pivot point.

        • +3

          well spotted!

      • They're definitely made in Germany

  • You can buy the 3 set for 64.99

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/kincrome-kincrome-plier-…

And 4 set for 85 from total tool

    • But it's still only $57 for them individually….

    • that is different model than the OP
buy separately for the OP model total cost is less than $60
no comment on which one is better tool

    • +2

If I was in the market for a set like that, I'd spend ten bucks more (less with Powerpass) on this made in Germany NWS set from Bunnings:

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/nws-3-piece-classic-plier-set_p6…

A really good quality German brand.
