How Does Robins Kitchen Get Away with Such Blatant Scams?

Why has the ACCC never launched an investigation into this place? I have never seen a Robins kitchen not plastered in signs either saying "closing down sale", "closing for stocktake sale", "70% off everything" etc etc.

I tried finding any places selling some of the bigger ticket items they stock at the RRP they claim is 70% higher than what they sell it for, and come up with equally dodgy sites claiming the same huge discount, probably Robins Kitchen shell companies.

I remember years ago when the parent company was genuinely going into administration and I was so happy, they fooled me good on that one.

It boggles the mind that people give this shit store any business.

why does it bother you so much
rugs a million has been closing down for 30 years, its mere sales puff. you don't buy something because it says 70% off, when another place / source still has it cheaper.

    "70% off everything" etc etc.

usually has the words 'up to' in tiny tiny font though

    closing down sale

Could still be technically true, even if they drag it out for 420 years 69 days.

Or the company is called "closing down" and this is just their monthly sale :troll:

everytime they get a sale, it delays the closing by a week!

  • Reminds me of JBHI in the day…… All these 'sales'

  • Robins Kitchen isn't the parent company, Global Retail Brands is. They own Baccarat, which is why it's the biggest discounted product you see on there.

Who cares though? The RRP on homewares has always been inflated at every store, buying a knife block at Myer for RRP is a great way to rip yourself off but people do it.

    • Because other retailers do the right thing and they don't. And because they don't, they get more customers enter the store and investigate purchasing from them. It's like bait advertising. Sale implies temporary and when using rrp it has to have actually been that price within a certain time period (it used to be 12 weeks from memory but not sure anymore).

Brashs used to have 3 birthday sales every year.

  • Isn't there like 6+ sales a year.

    Easter
    EOFY
    Black Friday
    Cyber Monday
    Boxing Day
    Birthday
    End of Season

Sales are just another marketing tactic.

  • I'm sure Robins Kitchen have some legal advice that what they are doing is perfectly legal.

Anyway, if it really bothers you, then you can go ahead & complain about them to the ACCC. The ACCC say on their website that "While we don’t resolve individual complaints, we will use the information you provide to help us understand what issues are causing the most harm to Australian business and consumers, and where to focus our compliance and enforcement efforts".

Isn't every day of being alive another day closer to death?

  • Same for "House" which I think falls under the same banner

Sale signs in there every week. Walked past last night and giant "80% off" signs, with tiny "up to" in the corner

Much like Chemist Warehouse has, in tiny writing, "Is this?" in front of "Australia's Cheapest Chemist".

      • I don't think I've actually noticed that!

  • Yes 'House' is the same. I agree with the original poster. I bought some knives on Boxing day about 5 years ago thinking I had a sale price. Then I realised that the sale is on permanently. I'm not a fan of it.

  • I remember once going into a Robins Kitchen closing down sale and the lady said her name was Robin and she just couldn't afford the rent any longer andf had to sell everything below cost. She then told me she isn't selling items to everyone because she wants to disuade resellers and will only sell to individuals, as her goal in life was to show people that cookijng at home can be easy, quick and healthy. What a load of bullocks, she must have been laughing all afternoon at me thinking I got a deal.
