Excellent price for a 4TB NVME TLC SSD. Lowest I've seen for a decent 4TB NVME, and this is the lowest this has been at CCC. This is $699 at PCCG.

  • 5 year warranty
  • TLC flash
  • Has DRAM
  • 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 — NOT SUITABLE FOR PS5
  • Read/Write Speed up to 3,500/2,900 MB/s (likely around 400GB of SLC cache at this speed when empty, ~2000MB/s write when full)

Yes, this item ships to Australian addresses from Amazon USA (amazon.com). If you try to purchase from Amazon Australia, prepare to pay more ($664AUD).

Tip: Pay with a low-international fee card, and select "USD" at checkout to save ~3% more. Up bank, ING etc.

  • I'm curious;

There was a LOT of debate over the PS5's need (vs its ability) to use top of the line SSD's.

I remember a few users and reviewers proving that older gen worked fine on all games (released as of 2020).

Has something (a game? A firmware patch?) Been released since to make the need of latest gen NVME drives actually required?

I was always impressed it had the ability to use such fast drives; but nothing was taking advantage when I looked into it at the start of the pandemic.

    Things change?

People were saying the same about HDD's VS SSD's a few short years ago….

My view is always: Wait until it actually gets utilised, by then it will be a lot cheaper.

        Pardon?
Thats exactly what I was asking; has the ps5 found a way or need to utilise the speed; I dont doubt its ability to do so.

Nobody ever defended HDD's against SSD's, outside of price per GB (now TB).

In fact, as far back as the release of Vista, before SSD's were consumer level; we were already utilising "readyboost" via USB, because of the improved IO latency and seek-less caching.

        Basically primitive optane.

And before that, digital cameras were already proving the need and use of "fast" flash chips.

Anyone who claimed otherwise was likely just not exposed to high data environments.

      I think the main point you're missing is this is a Pcie Gen3 drive… PS5 needs Gen4.

From most accounts the difference between a high end and a low end Gen4 drive in a PS5 is that it's negligible.

Yes, Sony software blocks you from using drives that don't report they support PCIe Gen 4
      Here and here

      • Thats what I was wondering ty.

        They didnt initially.

        Thanks! :)

        • I believe they were limited to Gen 4 from day 1 of the update to support NVME. You might be thinking of Gen 4 drives that run at Gen 3 type speeds.

    • Sony working with ssd manufacturers to force you to spend more money

  • Stay away from this SSD. Some reports showing unstable and slow speed from mobile01.

Well, I’m going to give it a thorough thrashing when I get it. Will update my experience when it arrives.

Mine arrived today!! I don't understand how, when I only ordered it from the USA on thursday?? Anyway, time to give it a go.

        • That's quick. interestingly, I ordered the same day and mine doesn't seem to even be shipped yet

          • @Motozine: Mine "tested positive" :D
Works pretty well, speeds around Seq. Read 3.2GB/s, Seq. Write 2.9GB/s.

  • Deal is back again.
