Another One of Woolworths Lies

Placing items on an end of shelf display marked "1/2 Price"
Then the girl on the register says "no, that's tomorrow!" Update (this was at 5:45 PM Tuesday)

Ask them would you please go check and of course they see it, and that is all. Still refuse to honour the price.

    I am ok with this.

What I am not ok with, is them taking the current week specials ticket down.

  • I cannot see any half price tags. Just because the shelf has half price signage does not mean the products are on sale for half price.

Lol that is exactly what it means. Half price.

  • I was at Woolies yesterday and they had some hot salami in the deli with a "30% off ticket price" sign, the ones they use when they need to clear out the product quick because it's going out of date.

There were about 4 slices of it there sitting on top of an entire unopened pack. I said "can I have 400g please?", but the lady said that she could only sell me the 4 slices at 30% off.

How can they get away with that? If it says 30% off ticket price and they have plenty of stock, technically I should be able to buy as much as I want. It didn't state "30% off ticket price of meat that's already sliced and on display".

Do we want to consider why retailers don't do it on the day of, instead? Or use nightfill? Because the aim is maximum profits and minimum spend. So consumers pay the price where its unclear and we don't notice.

  • Of course they would do this on Tuesday evening. There is no price ticket displayed so the shelf price (not whats on the end) is the correct price until the next day. You would have a case if this was Wednesday and they had left the previous tickets still up.

  • Any signage on a promo end when swap over is happening on a Tuesday evening should be removed. I've worked with some managers in the past that would put up the ticket (usually it'd be full price, obviously) while building the new promos, but it's rather time consuming, redundant and 99% of customers know that the items will be discounted the following day.

  • Coles has a policy that if the advertise price does not match scanned price, the first item should come free. Isn't that the same for Woolies too?

    • This is a voluntary code that Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, and IGA plus others have signed. It originated from negotiations when stores wanted to computerise pricing rather than having a price sticker on each item. Originally you could get all incorrectly scanned items for free.

Everyone and their dog knows they change over the displays on Tuesdays in preparation for the new specials.
