have checked with NIB, and this is correct, but amount varies, Concession card holders are exempt from the ambulance levy and are eligible for a discount on their hospital cover. This also applies to AHM, Medibank and Westfund. If you are not recieving this discount, call them with your details. Apparently the fund head office must be based in NSW (I think) or maybe its where the resident is based

Whats the concession card again
Who is it for? pensionaries?anyone exempt from ambulance charges
I'm a little lost, is this $3 off/fortnight on health insurance? Or have I totally missed the mark?
This is dumb af. lol concession card holders should get this for free lol. How would they even afford private insurance?
what is dumb is not getting a discount you are entitled to for lack of knowledge about it (does that compute?)
Just as a public service announcement - would not recommend anyone ever signing with NIB.
I’m a surgeon (still training). The number of things not covered by NIB in comparison to virtually all other private health insurers is staggering.
They will never come hood when you need them. Gap fees are astronomic because they cover nothing.
Bupa and Medibank private are also useless.
HCF or one of the union health funds is significantly better - by a mile.
I deal with a lot of cancer patients and it is always difficult for us to charge cancer patients - we want to make the costs as small as possible or free (covered by health insurance) if possible. With NIB we always call to fight in our patients behalf and always get told to get stuffed.
They are a terrible terrible for profit organisation.
Join a not for profit health fund.
thanks for that. I move around funds to get sign up deals, it is easy to change and sometimes just park my membership there
I have the opposite experience, NIB were fabulous. Covered everything we needed and more. Even when we pushed boundaries. SIRT, radiation, chemo, surgeries, I don’t recall being charged for a single thing the entire 3 years, aside from $500 contribution to private hospital stays per year.
Damn, I just switched from Bupa to Medibank because I heard they were good. I never really had an issue with Bupa (changed because of the Ramsay Health issue) the only things I had to pay for were gap on aneasthosist, my surgeon didn’t charge a gap fee. And consult fees I had to pay gap after Medicare rebate. But I thought gaps for surgeons and stuff depends on the surgeon/hospital and not the fund?
What’s wrong with Medibank?
there is a report published each year by ama or similar of actual procedures and amounts paid by different funds
I see a thumbnail of Government Revenue and my brain doesn't immediately think Bargain-of-the-Century!
