Im a Pixel 6 Pro owner myself since its release. Dont recommend. Battery lifes extremely poor, bugs still occur til this day. Havent had LTE dropouts but some people also report poor mobile signal connectivity. Just wait on the 7 Pro and hope theyve fixed it, im going to trade this abomination in straight away.

    • +22

No issues here. Also owned since launch. Will suggest waiting few months for 7 though.

      • Much better with Android update

      • +5

I never had any issues with my P6P, nor my partner with her P6, not my friend with his P6. All round they've been very decent and capable devices with zero hardware problems reported by those I personally know with them.

The latest Android 13 update appears to have made the experience even better. Highly recommended. This is a great deal OP.

    • +5

Yeah I'd say wait till the 7 too as a P6P owner. However I probably wouldn't go as far as to call the P6P an abomination 🤣

      • +3

Feels like it's always this year's pixels have issues wait until next year. I want them to be great but they never seem to be

Wish Huawei still had Android. Been waiting for a manufacturer to step up since they exited, still waiting

        • I know mate… I know. Google loves to disappoint it seems.

I think they'll struggle to stuff up the pixel 7 though as pixel 6 was a good phone apart from the poor modem and poor fingerprint sensor (which admittedly has improved a lot with software updates). So if they stick to the formula and just change those up they should be onto something.

          • @Binchicken22: No reason to change the rear fingerprint scanner, works and bulletproof. Just trying to copy apple but never as good lol. The pixel 5 probably will still be better than the 7.
Still disappointed with the speaker quality and loudness compared to the 3xl; being under the screen chasing no bezel design.

        • Huawei was the biggest non event

    • agreed. Bought it at launch and only kept it for 2 months then went to a 13 Pro Max, much better.

      • +26

Stopped reading after "I am not a Pixel 6 Pro owner"

        • -8

And I thought that would make it obvious enough that I wasn't being serious and just making fun of google cultists

      • +4

        How about, shutting up? Clueless.

        • -2

lol chill, didn't think I needed the /s. I was just trying to make fun of the mentality some google cultists have

          • +1

@Nillionaire: Pixel owners don't have a sense of humor about the absolute state of their phones. Understandable.

      • Would have more credibility if you had a pixel, probably got an iPhone.

My pixel 5 hasn't missed a beat, and no desire to upgrade to the 6. Prefer the hardware fingerprint scanner too.

      • I am not an iPhone 13 Pro Max owner and I recommend it. Why? Because it's compatibility with a Windows PC reminds you of your divorced mum and dad. If you are using an iPhone and you use a Mac, good on ya! 👍

You literally lose brain cells when you use a Windows PC and an iPhone together. Even Apple and Microsoft gave up and stopped bothering with updating their stand-alone iTunes program, and decided that shoving it into the Microsoft store with boatloads of bugs was the best idea!

Best experience as less brain cells = helps to numb the pain from this terrifying world. You should get an iPhone and Windows PC.

        This is not financial advice.

        • Yeah you are either in the apple ecosystem or you aren't.

    • +2

Endurance rating 84h is pretty bad from a 5,000 mah battery.

Wtf Google. Should be hitting the 110hr mark.

My Xiaomi with 5160 mah I am down to 70% battery after 19 hours.

      • I think it had something to do with the Tensor chip being a rebadged Samsung SoC and manufactured by Samsung. Not to say Samsung's manufacturing is bad but TSMC is just miles ahead with efficiency.

        • -1

          Surely not…

Holy crap. The Tensor chip really is just Samsung Exynos … ffs

That thing is the worst. It completely locks out any decent chance of running LineageOS sanely.

    • +4

I agree with pretty much everything you have said. A pretty awful phone. Used it for a few months and was spending so much time to find out source of battery drain, dealing with overheating issues and poor mobile signal.

Tensor is a poor rebadged version of exynos. Even the modem is an old Samsung one.

      • Got a link to prove both comments?

    • I've had two issues:

      1. The unresponsive screen glitch, which is fixed by disabling the battery percentage indicator (! come on Google!).

      2. More seriously, the signal drop out issue, basically every time I changed phone towers it would lose connectivity which is outrageously shit. I RMAed my first one because of this problem, which was so severe that most calls were dropping out. I eventually fixed it by enabling "data roaming" even though I'm not actually roaming on the replacement phone, and between that and the replacement it seems to be working fine now.

Other than that I think it's an excellent phone. The cameras are insanely good, I find the battery life good (I get a solid 1.5-2 days), it's waterproof, the screen is great and it looks nice. But those two issues, and especially the second one, are atrocious for a flagship phone.

I actually don't get the battery life complaints - how much do you use your phone, and what do you expect? This thing has a huge near 4k OLED screen, if you have it on constantly it's going to chew battery power.

    • +1

I am too using Pixel 6 Pro 512GB (Telstra) and is experiencing a lot of minor software issues relating to wireless/Wi-Fi and IoT controls. For example I could never for the life of me get Lifx products onboarded while using the P6P. Granted Lifx has their fair share of hardware problems, I could never get it to work despite having all the correct legacy 2.4GHz Wi-Fi settings. Interestingly my other Samsung phone works on the first attempt. And its just not Lifx products, my other IoT products doesn't play well with the P6P during onboarding process either. Its just very strange.

Also I can never rename my Google Nest Hub via the P6P. It just doesn't work. Its just littered with small little bugs everywhere.

    • I've had the complete opposite experience in my time owning the pixel 6 pro, I think a bunch of the 512 GB models had issues but mine was the 256 GB one with not many issues at all.

Interesting as my mate who has the same phone has issues you mention too.

    • +2

Just wait on the 7 Pro and hope theyve fixed it

Funnily enough, the same argument has been going around since the first pixel. It seems to me that google will never make a good phone.

      • Yep I think that is the case. I've been waiting for a great Google phone to retire my Nexus 6P, but each year its something that scares me away. Im betting that the P7Pro isnt going to be any better with software and/or hardware issues, so instead will be getting the Fliip4 or a Fold4.

      • -1

The 3/3a was a superb phone IMHO. Particularly the XL which had decent battery life.

    • +1

It's completely unacceptable that they released a phone like this and can charge $1000+ for it. Especially from a company like Google. This is why I don't buy pixel anymore.

    • Google store doesn't have a trade in system like Samsung right?

    • +1

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owner here. No hardware or software issues to report since January this year. Fingerprint reader is lightening-fast after Android 13 update. Battery life has improved.
The only bug there is with very slow charging on Google Pixel Stand 2. I got my Pro with $300 JB voucher a few months ago, so, this is a great price.

  • P6p owner since last round of JB Telstra port in deal, my one big complaint is the unbearable overheating issue even on mild usage (I don't play games on phone, just normal web browsing and social media etc)
Though i have to say it's not just this phone, I've had the same kind of problems on various galaxy devices and earlier generations of pixel phones
I haven't purchased an iPhone since 5s but seriously considering going back to iPhone just to see if the overheating problem is not as bad as Android phones I've owned

    • Get it RMA'd. I had battery and camera issues. New unit is great.

      • RMA?

        • Return Merchandise Authorisation, ie ask if you can sent it back for a new one.

          • @happydude: I tried doing that, saying the WhatsApp video call quality is horrible. They said contact WhatsApp. For RMA, are there other issues which they would genuinely consider? I didn’t mention other issues cuz I thought they wouldn’t consider them.

            • @DeeArrow: WhatsApp media quality will always be bad. They need to make things work in the worst of network conditions.

Acceptable reasons include things which are supposed to be working under normal usage, e.g. a day's worth of battery life, photos that make iPhone users jealous, no overheating, no lag, no connectivity issues, physical buttons working fine, wireless charging working properly etc etc

      • +1

Same, my replacement has been much better than my first one.

      • Could I check if your order said refurbished? I asked for RMA and they sent me a link that had refurbished written on it

Got the Pixel Pro from OW and has slight overheating issue from mild usage as well

        • +1

My order doesn't say refurbished. It came directly from the IngramMicro warehouse in Sydney

          • +1

@ShirPatrick: Thanks. I guess I’ve to make a case with Google support to not send me a refurb device since I paid brand new from OW less than 3 months ago

    • +1

I sold mine after a few months living with a sub par flagship. What a joke. Will never buy another phone from Google that is not ready for the market. Clearly full of bugs and inferior in every respect other than the great camera.

On the other hand I switched to IPhone 13 Pro Max and couldn’t be happier. 6 hours plus of screen time (mostly on cellular) and I go to bed with more than 50% battery left.

      • inferior in every respect other than the great camera.

Sadly, the stock android and great camera are the main reasons to get, or even consider it.

Hopefully the P7P will be better but who knows - it has basically the same cameras, a different (but still Samsung) modem, improved fingerprint sensor (iirc same as the one in the 6a), and a "second-gen tensor" whatever that entails.

I want a new phone and I hate Samsung's android experience / camera filtering so I'm holding out hope for it at least.

    • Have it replaced. No overheating here under normal usage. Telstra have "early life failure policy", so, they replace it with brand new if up to 30 days old. JB migth have the same policy.

  • 6a and 6pro deals, but no 6 deals? :(

    • You're right. Even if you look through all the past deals there's surprisingly very few deals for 6.

    • IMO, 6 exists to push people towards 6Pro, couple hundred extra and you get a pro, why not!

6a exists to push people towards 6 if they are really considering a budget friendly phone. Another $100 and you get a the full featured phone.

      It's all sales strategies.

Got the chomecast at OW thanks OP

  • +1

Only 128gb I will pass on this.

  • +1

I had nothing but issues with my Pixel 6, but since Android 13, it has been absolutely wonderful.

  • Is the deal end date of 7th September from an official source?

    • I based it on the expiry date from doweyy’s post on the Pixel 6A

      • Thanks, I saw that and queried that too, as I couldn't find a source for the date.

        • +1

Doweyy’s one has an expiry date as you can see it on JB’s main page (4th from the scrolling banner thingy)

  • What a shocking colour that Pixel is 🥶

    • +1

The two colors really don't go together.

  • Surely there pixel 6s will be half price soon with uber pixel 7around the corner, probably after is release so I'd wait till then and/or just get the pixel 7.

  • Battery life on my 4xl has improved greatly since Android 13 (20-30%). Now just waiting for the same $250 ‘trade in’ coupon haha

  • I'll be grabbing a Chromecast with Google TV for a present, appreciate the saving as I almost bought one at Officeworks last night for $99.

Check out how much they are in the US though, US$29!!

    • Aus tax applies to everything

  • OW right on it and updated price to match

My favourite phone brands - LG and Huawei, are both out.

Sigh, I don't know what phone to buy any more.

LG exited Mobile market altogether. It is a shame.I quite enjoyed LG V series phones.

I had great user experiences with Huawei phones as well, but no GMS after US sanction is a deal breaker.

Google phones offer great Android experience but the overall user experience is not stellar.

  • Android 13 rolled out to my pixel 5 today, snappier and seems good.

  • +1

I had the P6P for a month or two and am very glad I got rid of it.
The speakerphone on Pixels has always been rubbish and I constantly had to turn it off to talk to people.
The fingerprint sensor was driving me nuts.
The pure Android experience I loved for years on my previous Pixel phones (I've been loyal) was a let down on the P6P. Quite buggy. I heard that's improved though.
On the S22U now and it's so much better. I never like OneUI but it's actually pretty good now.
The hardware on this is outstanding. Though it still has issues. Especially annoying is the delay in the camera app, opening, jittery videos and slow to take photos.
You'd think we'd have one phone that ticks all the boxes by now….

    • Got the android 13 update yet? Maybe in 5 months.
Should wipe it and install Pure android

  • Ended up getting the Chromecast from Officeworks last night. Price beat with Hardly Normal, paid $74.10 with a gift card from Coles which had 2000 bonus Flybuys.

    • +1

Hahaha $1 cheaper at Hardly Normal, they really want our sales lol

  • Both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are $999 at JB lol. I wonder who will buy the Google 6?

    • normal price, i wouldn't
they only drop once the new models come out, wouldn't buy before then (but still wouldn't over the pixel 5)

    • People who don’t want the curved screen of the 6 Pro

  • Bought one of the pros from JB, and it's been a tonne of trouble since I got it.
    * Randomly decides to not charge until you restart it.
    * Battery doesn't last a day of not using it at all
    * Issues downloading and installing apps (things get stuck as 'pending' for hours)
    * Drove into the city and i've had no signal since. Restarting doesn't help. Had to fully reset mobile+wifi+bluetooth through the phone to get connectivity back. Really frustrating.
