Original Coupon Deal

Purchased one a few weeks back for $135 and thought it was well worth it. Now it's down to around $120 (use the code 8AUG9 cheers @Clear 🍻 also if you have some of those coin thingos can take another dollar or so off that as well plus don't forget to use CR or SB for cashback). Delivery to Brizzy took roughly two weeks so not bad for mine.

Highly recommend for anyone who uses the Quest a fair bit. Super comfy, solid build quality (they've fixed the issues plaguing the M2 Pro), looks clean and you'll never run out of juice or have to charge the Quest ever again. Never thought I'd see a day where all that was possible.

But here VR!

i'd suggest checking out kiwi strap, i have both and prefer the kiwi, simpler and less bulky

    • +2

I have the Kiwi one as well but this is much better in pretty much every way for mine. Also no battery on the Kiwi and even if you do attach a powerbank to the back you'll still have to lug around the Quest to charge. Same issue with head straps with built-in battery. With magnetic hot-swappable batteries no need to muck around with any of that you'll never run out of juice.

      • +2

I thought about getting the Kiwi but the BOBOVR M2 battery feature was too good pass up. It is just more convenient with the battery swapping. The fit on the BOBOVR M2 is also really good for me.

        • Yeah the added convenience is worth every cent and then some. Can't beat swappable batteries and imho BOBOVR has definitely smashed it out of the park with this one.

      • +2

No need to lug around the Oculus to charge the powerbank as I just lift velcro strap at the side to allow battery to slide out and replace with a second. No real effort.

  • +1

Thanks op. I may give it a try. The official battery strap is not comfortable at all.

    • No worries champ you won't regret it. I don't think there's a better alternative out there and at this price for the whole lot it's a steal for mine.

    • +1

It also has a tendency to break/fracture

      • What has a tendency to break/fracture?

        • +1

          The official head straps.

Am in the market for a head strap but so many brands, shapes and sizes. Some people recommend these and other say Kiwi. Leaning towards Kiwi as cheaper and avail locally.

Battery I have several spare 10000mAh battery's and use Velco straps to attach to the rear of original strap. No idea how well/easy is is to do the same on 3rd party ones. It currently works well for counter balance and never need to remove it as I just charge it at the same time as headset when needed. Not sure I would splash out just for it unless I was rolling in the $$ :-)

Nice Post and Deal though, that's for sure.

If one only wants the "BOBOVR M2 PLUS Head Strap", they have it for AU$59.05 which I assume is a decent price.

You can attach a powerbank to the back of the Kiwi one but if you use the Quest a fair bit I think spending the extra $70 for this is a no-brainer. If you're just a casual user tho the Kiwi is good enough.

The M2 Plus by itself can be had for around $54 with 8AUG3 but you're way better off buying the combo pack for $65 extra which comes with the two batteries, head strap battery dock and the magnetic dual charging base.

      • +2

Yeah but seriously, how many hours is one going to use it non stop. My limit would be a couple of hours. The attached battery lasts longer than that for me, not to mention the built in one so total time would be a good 6+ hours at a guess. Not saying that this deal isn't a great one but no point in splashing out if not needed (for me at least).

The 8AUG3 code needs a min of $76 spend to apply so won't work on this

        • If you have worked out something that works for you that's great. Are you using just the stock head strap or something else?

8AUG3 does work for that one (min USD $30 spend) but as I said going for the combo makes a lot more sense since buying just the battery and the head strap dock afterwards would cost over $50.

          • +3

@dins: I am still on crappy original and wanted to ensure I enjoyed Oculus before buying extras.
Actually, this might work better for me @ around AU$79.00 and if I am not mistaken, this is the same but comes with only one battery and without the desk charger which I don't want as takes up unnecessary space. I don't need two batteries as no a heavy gamer and original battery is still there to be used. They have multiple types now and getting confusing between M1, M2 and so on!
            BOBOVR M2 Pro & 1 x Battery

8AUG3 code = Ah good stuff, I tried it again and it does work. thanks for noting that. Now to decide on what to buy!

            • @Borg: I think M1 is their Elite version (top strap) and M2 is their Halo style. The M2 Plus is their latest Halo one in which they have fixed the issues with the Pro (tended to move around mainly due to the loose middle hinge).

              • +1

@dins: Thanks for clarifying. I as going to check if the word "Plus" represented a model or if it was just a word i.e. includes. Have checked a few online reviews comparing the models. No doubt next month they with come out with a M3 Plus :-)

Right-O, off to find a M2 Plus and if avail with a single battery and then decide.

                • +1

@Borg: Dam, BOBOVR don't do a package like they do with the "M2 Pro with a single battery" @ approx $75 They only sell the M2 Plus as a stand alone OR with the two batteries and desk charger as noted in this deal. Shame as only wanted the single battery to test with. Will just grab M2 Plus for $54 and attach my own. Won't be as pretty but thats ok.

As a matter of interest, I read reviews noting that:
                  - The Oculus internal battery drains quicker than the 5200mah battery pack can feed back so if playing non-stop the Oculus would eventually go flat regardless of rotation two batteries?
I believe that by design the Oculus drains to 75% by design before taking charge so exclude that part

@dins: what is your experience? Does your Oculus drop below 70% when playing non stop with the battery pack connected? My powerbanks works fine and stays above 70% and wonder is it because the BOBOVR battery connect via pins rather than USB to USB?

                  • +1

@Borg: Yeah the Oculus battery level remains steady at around 76% as long as you keep swapping out the BOBOVR batteries once they run out (should last at least a couple of hours each).

If you're planning on attaching a powerbank to the back you're probably better off going with the Kiwi one instead. There's not much room on the M2 Plus/Pro to attach a powerbank. With the Kiwi one you can attach one to the top strap.

                    • +1

@dins: Thanks for the reply and tip for the Kiwi design.

Am in two minds as the battery is nice design but not a nice price for what they are other than the M2 Pro version with single battery @ $75. I will just have to sit back and procastinate a little longer I think….ha!

                    • +1

@dins: I ended up going with the "KIWI design Upgraded Head Strap" as may well use my existing 10000mAh batteries. Only seems to need the one as after 4 hours today, the Oculus had not used any of it's own charge and my battery had 2.5 out of 5 bars left so am going to guess will get a good 6 hours out of it before running off Oculus battery. No way I will play for 6 hours! Just hope the Kiwi works out as well as the reviews suggest, if not can return it to "Amazon" and then go BOBOVR :-)

Thanks all for the advice and tips.

                      • @Borg: No worries bud hope it works out for ya. It's a solid head strap and definitely heaps better than the stock one.

i have quest 2 sitting in my wardrobe collecting dust for roughly 1.5 yrs now.

this piqued my interest a little, what games are groundbreaking in the VR sphere now?

    • +1

That's a question to Google as it really comes down to what type of gaming you enjoy and expectations.

For me (being new)I have being enjoying playing the old ported games like Doom3 and Return to Castle wolfenstein, both being free.
Flying games like Ultrawings 2 has also been lot of fun.
My wishlist contains the likes of Red Mattter 1&2, Moss 1&2, Warplanes, I Expect you to Die 1&2, Pistol Whip…….and all get great reviews.
I stopped there as that is plenty for now for me to consider.

Demeo if you like boardgames, it's awesome.
VRPoker is great with mates and a beverage.
Project cars is good and even better with a wheel
Starwars squadrons and Project Wingman with a HOTAS
        Asgards's Wrath
        Superhot
        Half Life Alyx
        The Walking Dead S&S
        The Room VR: Dark Matter
Skybox VR for watching movies, find hardcore henry if you don't mind violent movies, not a great movie but the FPV aspect makes it interesting in VR.

First off if you still haven't activated it yet you might be able to get Beat Saber for free. If that's the case don't forget to activate via a referral to get $47 in store credits as well.

I think one of the best things about the Quest is the quality of sports games on there. IB Cricket, Walkabout Mini Golf, Golf+, Eleven Table Tennis, Thrill of the Fight, First Person Tennis, Nock, Real VR Fishing, PokerStars VR etc are all good fun and most are reasonably priced.

Then there's also BigScreen (watch sports, movies/3D movies/TV, play games like Jackbox.TV, YouTube, chat etc with people from all around the world) and Amazon Prime VR is pretty good as well if you just want to chill and watch something on there in your own virtual cinema.

There are also some decent shooters/combat games (The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, Vader Immortal series, Population One, Drop Dead, SuperHot etc), enjoyable puzzle games (Room VR, Red Matter, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Expect You To Die, Moss etc) and some fun music/rhythm games like Beat Saber, Pistol Whip and Synth Riders.

Did I miss anything else worth mentioning? 🤣

Get vader immortal ep3: be a jedi, use the force, battle darth vader in a light saber duel. Epic

      • +1

does seem like there hasn't been a BIG leap in progress since i lasted played then..

i played vader ep 1 when i first got my quest 2 - that was fun but over too quickly.

also played beatsaber with mods, i think i got sidequest running with it. Pavlov, but was very unpolished as a port.
there weren't many games that i thought were quality enough to keep me playing then. I had Alyx on my PC but never got around to it but I remember paying for virtualPC or something along those lines so I could stream graphics from my main PC. Also tried squadrons VR with a HOTAS, but realise I had no aptitude or patience to keep at it and sold it off within a week.

I think the only game i kept that i thought really got me immersed was superhot VR.

I think things have progressed a lot in 1.5 years including software updates as a lot has been upgraded since then. As for games, well it will never be as good as PS, Xbox, PC etc for pure content however for what it is, I consider it a nice change from the norm and for the price a great entry into the VR experience. Not for everyone though.

Oh and one can stream from PC to VR for free these days with incl app.
