If you got free shipping from Amazon UK what would you buy and resell in Aus to make profit $$$

hi everyone,

im in a position where I live in a country that is UK VAT exempt - (with free shipping to myself), and I have an excess freight allowance to return home to the grand city of australia with.

so i figured i would buy some things that are cheap on amazon uk, then get my free shipping (and vat refund) then freight them for free back to myself in australia to make a profit - im returning broke so it will be a good kickstart.

so far i thought about saucepan sets - like the circulon infinite that could proly make 50 bux a set on ebay. ink - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0018S13MM/ref=oh_details…

what do you think people would pay for samsung galaxy s3 without an aus warranty ?

what else do people know of that is really cheap in the UK, costs alot to ship (or wont ship) and that i could definately get a quick sale on ebay australia ?

    Nespresso Coffee Machines.

Was going to buy one, decided to buy 4 instead, and the profits from eBaying my 'spare' 3 of them effectively gave me a free unit, and enough for a good selection of capsules too.

Try shoes or shades (specially OAKLEY brand)

    • How about some Austin 3:16 classic WWF merchandise?

      • then id bet you'd look good on the dance floor

  • yeah ! good suggestions already, thanks for the help psionix and austin 316.

i did get a nespresso machine for myself, was very happy with it.

when you sold them did you include plug adaptors ? i could throw them in aswell.

just had a thought, products with international warranty would be good.

off to scope out nespresso machines and shades. appreciate the help immensly guys !

  • Don't forget eBay will effectively poach 10% so factor that into your calculations. I would only try this on items you are guaranteed to sell, otherwise could end up a costly process, not profitable. The Nespresso machines look like a good bet. Was going to suggest Global knife sets but just looked and they seem much dearer there.

  • thanks sparkles, yeah i started using ebay again after been abroad for 12 months, selling fees are out of control these days. thankyou for the tip!

gonna order some nespresso machines- can confirm that Krups have international warranty :)

  • Kitchen aid mixers
    Norelco electric shavers
    Hunter boots

    • Hunter boots can be posted pretty easily from The Hut for 99p.

      Obviously from WA…

  • Just had an idea, if you have one nearby take a look in TK Maxx. They sell a lot of very nice stuff cheap, thinking of Le Creuset etc. They also sometimes have some designer bags, perfumes, beauty products. You just never know what you will find there.

  • ok i like the kitchenaid idea strayla, just to check if they have international warranty now. no norelco on amazon.uk - seems its a us brand, thanks for the tips ! definately some cash to be made on mixers :)

thanks again sparkles, im not actually in the UK though, im in SE asia and the company i work for gets free freight forwarding on smallish packages.

keep the suggestions coming, thanks everybody !

  • i cant imagine shifting pots n pans and other large items like coffee machines is going to work well

you'd be wanting smaller high value items?

  • i calculated a decent profit on nespresso machines - 80 bux.

can make 130 bux profit on kitchenaid mixers. (all after ebay fees)

what kinda of small high value items do you suggest ?

    thanks for your help !

  • i guess the problem with high value electronics (like phones etc) is warranty.

whats something small, high value, and doesnt really need warranty ? (maybe such a thing doesnt exist)

    • How about kindle? jewellery? legos?

  • This time of year, maybe high end ski jackets that are on 70% off closeout sales in the UK summer, right about the same time as our ski season is kicking off. Additionally how about Burton snowboards and bindings if you can get them on a summer discount in the UK. Swiss automatic watches.

Winter fashion clothes and stuff from designer brands. I can still never understand why people pay $120 for Tommy Hilfiger shirts here when you can get them from the outlets in the US for $30 tops.

  • Home theatre systems and speakers are way overpriced in Australia compared to UK, and people are always looking for some to enhance weak speakers on flat panel TVs.

  • Remember the plugs…

  • Doesn't anyboy see the flaw here? He says he returns broke but yet has enough cash to buy heaps of stuff to buy things there in order to sell them off here - wasn't there a guy called Boden or something like that who had a similar idea with Ebay?. That's a bit fishy to me. It would be better if you just came out and said you want to make a lot of bucks really quick by charging your fellow Australians.

    What about this?
Ask people what they want, buy it for them cheaply, and then charge a $15-$20 admin fee for your work. That would be more in the spirit of Ozbargain, don't you think?
Also, if you buy things things might be tricky with the warranty. Amazon provides warranty but you need to have the invoice/receipt and if you try to claim with one that does not have your name on it, might prove difficult.

nothing fishy about this, dont get your knickers in a knot.

i credit carded a few things (think outside the box gallifrey), hi-fi amps, nespresso machines and saucepan sets and made myself about 400 bux, thanks for your help everyone.

now lets let this thread die…

I am not getting anything in a knot. I have nothing against making a few bucks if the "story" is consistent. Happy you managed to make a profit. Have a good evening.

    • Like all effective businesses with no money, you borrow to get the gear in the first place. Entirely legitimate & unremarkable, and makes the world go 'round to boot.

Gallifrey seems to get a little bit knotted up in the nether regions by assuming the worst in people. I don't know why. Personally i think his name is a little bit fishy, though it's possible he's simply leaping to conclusions as an Amphibian of the order Aruna (Google is your friend).

Let's face it, he basically accused you of lying in his initial post (which itself goes against the OB honour code), and then essentially repeated it with his subsequent comment (compounding his failure to accord with the OB honour code). I just made up 'OB honour code'.

He's also a little bit sensitive to any form of legitimate criticism, as you'll see in a moment……..

Edit: holy crap, your original post is from early June - why he bothered reviving it is beyond me…

      • Beyond me why you take soo much interest in me - don't you have a partner? ;-)

As regards the borrowing: is that not what "brought" us the financial crisis? All these effective businesses that borrowed more than they could service.

I did not accuse anybody of lying - I just find it strange if someone basically says "I have no money" and then says "what container should I fill with goodies I buy from Amazon"?

I am happy OP made a profit so please, please, please lay off me and find somebody, ANYBODY, else to lavish your "special" attention on. Please.

        Thank you

Like i said, he's a little bit sensitive to legitimate criticism.

          Let's deconstruct his latest comment.

His reference to partnership is symptomatic of his nature: that of bullying coward (it is, after all, so easy on the net). His clear intent is to shut others down.

Did he deal with the core issues? No - he simply introduces more irrelevant twaddle (he's clearly no economist). He then asserts he did not accuse you of lying, but that simply cannot be supported on the evidence: he essentially claimed you were not broke, when you said you were - how could his comments be interpreted any other way?

He then seeks to proclaim himself the victim, when the the evidence demonstrates he is the key perpetrator. You attempted to obtain support from other OB's with a plan, and he attacks your credibility by choosing to select only one of several possible explanations.

Gallifrey is a regular poster on OB, usually via deals out of Amazon Europe. He appears to have built a few basic scripts to trawl the sites for items with high claimed discount, and/or high claimed sales. His motives are very clear: he is attempting to make a profit via his affiliate links. This is also undeniable given his incessant references to his affiliate links within his posts.

Yes, he can be useful on a site such as this, but he makes the mistake of assuming he's indispensable. He's not, and the sooner the moderators understand this and stop tolerating his unhinged attacks on other members, in addition to kowtowing to his requests to censor posts that he doesn't like, then the better OB will be.

        • +1 for you my friend. Hope you find a proper course in psychobabble at a remote uni somewhere. Good luck to you.

P.S.: Ever wondered how much a site needs to make through aff links to employ people full-time in high wage Australia? What some posters make through their af links here is neglible. I make you an offer. I give you 50% of all income generated through my aff links if you give me 10% of your salary. if you think aff links make you rich, you would go for it.
Now, if scotty made you that offer, that would be worthwile, hey?
Unless you say something sensible I won't respond to you anymore - what you do is akin to trolling. Just think about this - would you invest say 15 hours a week for absolutely nothing, not even thanks or recognition? No? Well then, maybe leave the people who do alone.
          Thank you.

Waiting for your first post, mate.

        • Thanks for voting me up.
          Appreciate it.

          Not psychobabble, just brutal logic.

Stop attacking people unreasonably & i'll find a new hobby.
Attack arguments by all means, but please don't argue in the hypothetical, or continually introduce irrelevant guff.

This way i can get back to my stamp collection.
          I love my stamp collection.

        • I think I know about logic - kinda my job.
Re-examine your arguments, from ethical, moral, and even economic viewpoints (see your business fallacy above).
Just leave me alone and try to find some deals for us instead. And if you want to be taken seriousy, maybe choose a different picture or find a hobby other than looking at ….what was your name again??!!
Goodbye and good luck with your stamp collection - at least there you have no risk of being racist or sexist (did you assume I am male?) ;-) So much for making assumptions.

        • Hey, you said "unless you say something sensible I won't respond to you anymore".

I guess i said something sensible.

Mounting a cogent argument is a little bit different than narrow coding logic. People usually need to do more than coding logic to understand this.

For the uninitiated, i said "i don't speak froggie" when i was trying to sort out how to read deals from Amazon.frog. This set him off as described around here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77405#comment-990397

          Hypersensitive Francophile, AFAICT.

Go off & whinge to the mods…like last time.
