  • Would this be worth the upgrade from 3600x?

      • +26

Best not to use nor link anything by userbenchmark. Ran by a biased lunatic who calls AMD Advanced Marketing Devices. The website is banned in a lot of tech forums

        • +1

What do you suggest then ?

          • +2

@solidussnake: Hardware Unboxed did a video recently. Recommend skipping to summary graphs for a good idea on performance gains
Edit: link It's actually 3600 vs 5600 but performance difference between 3600 and 3600x is small from what I understand

            • -8

@FireRunner: literally the worst person to go for advice, screw hardware unboxed and their rabid fanboyism over companies

              • @Freestyle: The benchmarks themselves are objective, you can draw your own conclusions from the data if you don’t agree with their opinions or conclusions.
Disagree that they’re fanboys for any company. But I’m open to any examples you can provide that show otherwise

                • @FireRunner: haha examples, go back to 2019-2021, their clickbait titles and using titles like 'Is Intel dead now???!' "is this the end of Nvidia?'

and then on a different video complaining that people make fun of them when they try to recommend a non-amd system when they are the ones who bred the fanboyism

yeah nah, you can go to them, i rather stick to someone more objective.

          • +1

            @solidussnake: Try CPU Monkey
            https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-amd_ryzen_5_3600x-…
They always have Cinebench, Geekbench and Passmark

          • +1
          • @solidussnake: Techspot and Techpowerup.

        • Agreed. Is it such a bad comparison tool across the same CPU manufacturer?

          • +2

@Techie4066: It skews results towards single core performance (newer chipsets), thus pushing consumers towards always upgrading.

            This is a 10900 vs 12100:
            https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-10900-vs…

          • +2

@Techie4066: It's not a bad comparison tool as long as you know what you're looking at.

I wouldn't link to it without a disclaimer as it is skewed toward whatever metric happens to favour Intel. They also reduced the usefulness of the site by hiding multi core benchmarks.

It also attacks online communities and pretty much all other tech sites. They're basically the sky/fox news of tech. The owner seriously has a screw loose and can't handle AMD being competitive. This even more evident with his recent comments about AMD.

      • +1

Check out actual benchmarks, hardware unboxed, gamers nexus, even random benchmarks on YouTube are better. Look at your use cases not a synthetic benchmark where the numbers are made up.

Userbenchmark state their own bias against AMD, going as far as rebranding them "Advanced Marketing Devices".

They call anyone who disagrees with them paid shills.

They also play games like showing the 5600 as being superseded by the 5600X however they don't apply the same logic to the 12600 and 12600K, the latter offering vastly greater performance.

When the leaked 7600X topped their charts they actually increased the score of the 12900KS to beat it by 1%, they reversed that change after they were called out.

        The quote continues:

It's well worth it for anyone who jumped on the AM4 platform early

        I.e. Zen/Zen+ owners (1000 and 2000 series)

They literally say in the conclusion:

For Zen 2 [Ryzen 3000] owners running something like the Ryzen 5 3600 it is less obvious what you should do, and in many instances the upgrade for the 5600 just isn't worth it - but again that will depend on the games you're playing and how you play them.

Pretty disingenuous to frame the quote as you did lol.

    • +3

Not really, a 3600x to a 5600 is more of a side grade. The Hardware Unboxed comparison is between the slightly slower 3600 and 5600, half the games show no improvement and if you check out the conclusion of that video:

      1600 to 5600 is a great upgrade.
3600 to 5600 is mostly not worth it.

On the positive side, the 5600 runs at 65 watt, 3600x at 95 watt.

I have a 3600x and waiting to see what happens to prices, after we find out about Zen 4 on August 26th.

    • its worth it but just wait 6 more months once the new Am5 releases and then buy the 5700 / 5800 so will help you in the longer run and also price will drop

    • +2

Would this be worth the upgrade from 3600x

      In a word, no.

Unless you value incremental gains more than I do. But if you can get a good price for your 3600x and your bios is updated and you are an enthusiast that benefits mentally from incremental gains, knock yourself out.

  • Would this be worth the upgrade from a Ryzen 5 1600AF?

    • +4

      I just did this;

For general usability - it's noticeably snappier around windows and apps.

For gaming - at 1440, I see 10-15% higher av fps (depending on the game), but a huge jump in the lows. It's far smoother.

Note - I did a simple drop in upgrade, so am probably bottlenecking on my 2666mhz ram.

    • It doesn't really matter except for Microsoft flight sim and Elden ring. Elden ring is especially a weird case, it's slow on the 1600AF, and have constant stutter.

Would this be worth the upgrade from a Pentium II 233?

    • Depends on your HWBot score

    • +5

Make sure you upgrade to Windows 98 SE first

      • Windows ME was better c'mon 😋

    • +1

No because you would probably have to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 which would cancel out the performance gain you get from the faster CPU

    • +3

Is your turbo button not working anymore?

    • +1

just get a celeron 300a and overclock it to 450

      • I had that back in the day lol

    • +1

      Not slot 1

Best upgrade for you is Pentium II 450MHz

Just make sure your motherboard can do 100MHz FSB (you need the 100BX chipset) and a 4.5 multiplier

Careful because if you're running a 233, then your FSB will be 66 and you might not have the right chipset to use a 100MHz FSB

    • Couldn't find a comparison on benchmark 😜

The 5600 is only 219% faster then the Pentium D though.

    • +1

The canny buyer would wait for a Celeron 300 and simply run it at 450MHz.

      • Haha. The old 300a.

Yea I get that but having multiple credit facilities can affect your borrowing capacity and could lead to bad spending habits and money management for some people - just like ozBargains does for me ><

  • 12400F is vastly better value unless you already have an AM4 board.

    • +6

I'd argue this is vastly better value unless you already have a z690/b660

    • The 12400F is $275RRP
Isn't backwards compatible and prob won't be forwards compatible either
The mobo cost more and that will be a use once unless you plan to stick on LGA1700 forever
Only benefit of Intel would be Quick Sync

      • and? The street price for this CPU is $285.
The 12400F is $236 currently on this same eBay deal. It was lower but it sold out at a few sellers.

If you buy an AM4 motherboard today it’s the end of the line. LGA1700 still has another generation in it.

The 12400F doesn’t have quick sync but it does have like 10% better gaming performance.

  • +1

time to update my i5 4690

    • +7

Consider waiting 1 month for the next gen, as you will need to upgrade mobo and possibly ram anyway.

      • +1

great point. thanks for the info!

  • Im after 5700x seem to be short of stock.

  • Doesn't require eBay Plus

But, requires handing over my personal info to yet another entity (Afterpay)….sigh. Still gets an up-vote, though.
