    Great deal

  • -4

Take this with a grain of salt, but I have always heard Tempe Tyres are parallel imports and may not be the same quality and tyres sourced from other suppliers. In saying that I have always used them to price match with places like Jax Tyres to get significant discounts.

    • +31

As far as I'm aware the quality and construction talk is just a myth made up by local tyre shops to justify the price they charge.

    • +1

The other tyre shops you are referring that sells "genuine" products also buy from Tempe as they are the wholesalers too.

    • +1

Shame you got so many negs for giving input.

I don't claim to know the facts here, but I do know that when I do a search for tyre dealers on Michelin's own website, Tempe Tyres doesn't appear.

At the end of the day, if you're able to verify the tyre manufacture date and specs (eg. load rating) when you buy, then it's probably okay I'd say.

  • -5

They are cheaper for a reason as they deal in grey imports of old/substandard stocks from overseas. Better to go with authorised supplier for peace of mind. Atrocious customer service too. Fobbed me off when I complained about them selling me poor quality tyres. If you can wait for a sale from MyCar which also has 12 mths warranty covering damage from road hazards.

    • +5

You can call and ask the date if manufacture. Last time I bought from them the tyres were only 3 months old.

      • +1

Mine was Kumhos that were 23 months old and the sidewall ruptured after 6 mths. If you want to take the risk make sure to check the date before they install the tyres.

        • I just called Tempe and they told me the last batch landed in June so they should be around 6 months old at a guess and surely under a year.

          • -2

@Homerlovesbeer: Confirm the manufacture date on the tyre and dont bother with asking any warranty from this mob

  • I always used them when living in Sydney (got them fitted at their store in Tempe), had great experience with them, saved a bundle and never had any issues with their tyres.

    • They are great out there. Only issue is you can be waiting a long time to get them fitted. They were nice enough to tell me it was a huge wait and would I prefer to come back the next morning as soon as they opened. I was ok with the wait as it saved about $200 a tyre on the 315’s on my car.

  • +1

Can't talk to the retailer, but tyre wise, I recently got the 17" and they are great.

  • Happy with my Pirellis and pretty much always go to Tempe Tyres now.. I can't find a better price.. called an official Pirelli reseller and want convinced that paying 30% more would be worthwhile. They change the tube stem as well which is cool considering I've used other places that never bothered and I had a tube stem fail! Funnily enough the Tempe Tyres near Fairfield saved me on a late Saturday afternoon.

  • +1

Hey O.P. Are they tires freshly made ? Or at least few months old ?

    • I called Tempe and they told me the last batch landed in June so they should be around 6 months old at a guess and surely under a year.
They don't have a tyre in the shop so they couldn't tell me the manufacture date

    • +2

considering they are made overseas and logistics in current climate , how fresh do people want their tyres ? I didn't even check last set I had fitted, and can't recall manufacture date being embeded in the wall ???? Maybe printed ???

      • +1

My last set PS4 (18") was about 10 months old. I'd say less under a year would be good.

      • The manufacture date should always be on the wall.
        Year and month.

        • +4

          Year and month.

          Week no & year

          • +1

@lomie: No wonder I’ve gotten confused looking at them 😂

  • would most tyre shop be willing to install if we do not buy from them?

    • My local Jaxx do (I've had them fit before) and there really isn't a reason why any tyre shop can't fit.

    • I've had tyre shops fit BYO tyres, issue is the cost to fit and dispose of old and how busy they are.

    • Yeah no dramas, my local independent shop charges $20-30 per tyre for fit and balance.

    • +1

approx $15-$20 each to install and disposal of your old ones

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 has been released and it's rumoured that the Pilot Sport 5S is just around the corner. They would presumably be better but also presumably more expensive. Just an FYI for anyone considering.

    • +1

The PS5 only really gain mileage over the PS4. Doesn't seem like there's a big increase in other metrics. Having said that the mileage of the PS4 seem pretty average.

Also one review suggested the PS4S vs PS4 wasn't that much of a difference either.

Hopefully the PS5S will have a more substantial leap in performance over the PS5.

      • You buy PS4, PS4s or PS5 not for long lasting purposes…if you are looking for tyres last very long, you are looking at the wrong product. They are performance tyres especially the one with the s at the end. I have PS5 now and the last set was PS4 on 17" and the PS4 lasts me just short of 15000km. Now the PS5 so far only travels 500km so hopefully last 10% longer than PS4 but I know it won't get to 20,000km for sure.

My wife's car has PS4s 235/35/19 as well before and now have Goodyear AS5 and I am happy with the saving and still fairly close performance to the PS4s but I really like the AS5 sidewall.

        • only 15000kms, are you taking your car to a track or something?

          • @closed: never track, but I am not a slow driver I admit. Since mine is a RWD, it only last that long, the front wheels usually last double approx 28k

        • 55,000km on the factory delivered tyres on my mustang (PS4S). Only just replaced the fronts because camber wear ruined the inside edge. Same daily commute in a Mondeo with “non performance” spec pirellis were replaced in a much shorter timeframe. Unless you’re ripping skids off every green light the Michelins should last. They’ve broken the “performance or lifetime” paradigm.

      • +3

The PS5 is way better though hey. Fortnite looks amazing.

    • I put Pilot Sport 5 on my car from Tempe 2 months back and they are soooo much better than the continental sport I had on previously.

      • Which CS model? Apparently CS7 are out. Not sure how they compare to the PS4/5/S

        • I emailed Conti Australia and they said they likely wouldn't have CS7 stock in 235/35 R19 until next year

  • These tyres were the only ones that didn't spin on my C63. Loved them

    • +3

Username and car checks out ;-)

  • Exactly what I’m running in the rear now. Might get some for the fronts, hng

  • +2

I'd argue that the Pilot Sport 5 for $229.5 (245/40/18) is an even better deal!

    • +2

      Different size all together

    • +1

Lower performance tyre than the Sport 4S

  • +1

    Q: Is fitting/balancing free?
A: Yes, it's free for in-store customers who can come to our stores.

  • +1

I bought these very tyres a few weeks ago from Tempe for my Megane, manufacturing date was 5221 (last week of 2021) which is fine as far as I'm concerned.

    • Thanks for the info!

    • How to check for the 'manufacturing date' ?

      • +1

There's a 4 digit number on the sidewall - the first 2 numbers are the week of the year, the second 2 are the year, so in mine they were made in the 52nd week of 2021.

  • These fit Teslas?

    • Wow check ur tyre wall mr lazy. Hope u werent the tesla i raced 2day lol

      • Lol you sure you raced one? I'm sure you mean you got burnt by one.

        • It wasnt a Plaid model i guess just a regular tesla

      • What are the odds, out of the whole of Australia, you raced a guy on OzBargain today who's asking about tires… 🤔

  • Hey guys what's the most silent tyres I can buy? I Don't worry about tyre life.

    • Serenity Plus are up there

      • Thanks Antik, I did some readup and seems like this is the tyre of choice and are currently Buy 3 get 1 free - 705$. The other option that are on sale are Potenza RE003 with same buy 3 get 1 free - 660$. After reading many reviews even Primacy 4ST seems like a good choice, but would set me back by 1020$.

Currently my car (Superb MK2) has RE003 on the rear and Winrun 330 on the front - thats how the old owner set it up. Both tires have dry rot and almost worn out. Just confused between the 3. My preferece are as follows

Noise > Comfort > Fuel economy > Handling. Of course price is also a factor as there is a huge gap between Primacy 4 ST vs Serinity Plus. I cant seem to find any comparision between the two though.

        • Serenity Plus are an extremely long wearing, comfort, economy tyre. RE003 are a budget performance tyre. Primacy 4 are geared towards a blend of performance and economy. Serenity Plus will far outlast any of those tyres. They have a 50,000km guarantee and it’s not uncommon to see 80,000km+ if rotated regularly. If you want long life and comfort, they can’t be beat.

          • +1

@antik: Thanks. Serenity plus seems like a no brainer for my current needs.

  • +4

Thats an expensive set of tyres for the average ozbargainers Camry

    • True, but given tyres are the only thing connecting your car to the road, it's a false economy to be using rubbish tyres (I'm not however saying tyres at this level are required for most)

  • Good price!

My tyres on my Golf are a few months away from needing to be replaced. I would of snapped these up if postage to Melbourne wasn’t $400 😪

    • +1

      Say what?

Postage to capital city is $30 for 2 tyres?

      • +1

        All good showing $60 now!

  • Got the zr version of these for my rs3 great tyres no complaints.

  • -3

I want to know if this is suitable for my westpac job and 50k investment car

  • -1

Oh wow, the exact tyre I needed a month ago…

  • +1

Very good price for these high performance tyres.

Got quoted $460ea only 3 months ago for this size and load rating which I felt was a joke.

    • +1

      $327ea is still a joke 😂

  • First and last set of Michelin we'll use: https://imgur.com/a/zOqiEw5

    ymmv / dyor.

Set in images came with the car and unrelated to Tempe. We happen to buy all our tires from Tempe and been a great experience for many years.

    • I've gone through about 6 sets of their sport tyres (PS3, Super Sports, Sport 4S x 3 sets) and never had an issue. It's possible the previous owner caused that damage which only became an issue with you.

I wouldn't judge Michelin on that one tyre.

    • Did they get replaced? I know someone who had this happen to their Michelin not that long after getting them fitted new

      • No warranty replacement, private sale from interstate. Thought about approaching Michelin but imagined driver being blamed due to no proof which would be understandable.

Washed each f/n or better and noticed after about 3months/6k's.

Should also add other general feedback that they seem to wear really well, dry grip also very good. Front would aquaplane a little in heavy water, not as bad as say Nitto NT05 but certainly there.

        • +1

My friend went back to tyre store and they said it looked like it would’ve been caused by a pot hole but I don’t agree

  • I've purchased tyres from TempeTyres and no-issues with them so far but keep in mind these are grey imports.

    • +3

Tyres don't care if they are "Grey Imports" :D

      • Yeah dude they come with chinese software instead of EU Rom

      • Are you sure every single road tarmac mix is the same around the world and tyres aren't made for the mix in each country? If you're wrong, grey import tyres likely wear out faster on Australian roads compared to mix they're designed for.

        • +1

Yes, the tough "Australian conditions" invented by Holden commodore advertising, comprising mild weather, straight roads and a flat landscape.

  • My local Jax did these for $320ea fitted and balanced

    • Lol how many years ago? I called mine and was told the BEST they could do was $425 a corner

      • 2 years ago. I’ll call them back up tomorrow and see what they can do them for. Genuinely curious how much the price has changed. Not that I would use them again, using Yokohama A052’s which are a much better tyre but twice the price of the PS4S’s

        • No, they're not? Blew through A052s in 7000kms. PS4S 34000kms.

You're comparing an ultra high performance tyre built for track use and occassional street use to a high performance tyre made for street use and the occassional track day.

Two completely different tyres for different main use cases.

          • -1

@Evanlet: Correct, A052 are a motorsport derived tyre, hence they perform so much better than PS4S. Sure the trade off is life, but I’m happy to pay the price for a far superior tyre.

  • +1

wow these guys are cheap for Michelin, thanks for the post.

    • +1

      You're welcome :)

      • I only buy Michelin and never found prices anywhere near these guys. With the extra Afterpay discount it's hard to believe it's true. Might need to buy some more.

      • Decided to go ahead and purchase, will report back if there are any issues. Also asked them to confirm manufacture date is within 6mths before sending.

        4x PS4 215/45R18 shipped to Melb for $910

        Thanks again

  • +3

FYI…. Not an approved dealer, they don't follow promotions and are not covered by Michelin Australia warranty. Other tyre dealers won't price match with them.

If you prefer the peace of mind over the savings check Michelin's site for approved dealers:

    https://www.michelin.com.au/auto/dealer-locator

  • Would these be good for doing burnouts on Mitchell Street?

  • +1

How many kms would you expect out of these?

    • Ask Tempe how much warranty they give on Australian roads at that price lolololol

    • +1

Keep in mind these sort of high-end tyres are not really for durability but for grip/performance. Some folks think expensive tyres should last longer but it's usually the other way round.

      • What would be a good mix of the two? My car is up 4 new tyres soon

  • Didn't even know tyres had expiry dates! I know my elderly mother replaced tyres because rubber was cracking on the sidewalls after 8 years, but i understand that…. however a tyre is rated for 150kmph+ and can withstand cornering and driving that I never even come close to… maybe I should look for bargain tyres close to expiry, like perishables at supermarkets just wait till they're close to expiry/markdown…
