never been a fan of electric chainsaws, always found a petrol one has no issues chopping trees

Horses for courses. For the average DIYer this is works perfectly well and not having to worry about ongoing (motor) maintenance is a huge bonus

Like anything out there the quality of different brands vary, I found the DeWalt saws to be quite good. I have been using the 18V (30cm bar) and it has been performing well.

A really good unbiased comparison channel on YT would be Project Farm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aBZt8m1XkQ

    • I've never had any issue with this chainsaw, and I've cut down some decent sized trees (600mm stumps), curious what issues you've had with this one?

Only thing I don't like over a petrol is that the electrics tend to leak the bar oil if stored flat on it's base. Storing it in it's side or vertically fixes this without having to drain the oil each time.

      • chokes up with saw dust, have to clean out the blade constantly. It doesn't have the raw power like a petrol Hilti to clear the sawdust in the blade. I just got sick of cleaning it after several cuts.

        • Hmm never experienced that, perhaps you should sharpen the chain more frequently? That goes for petrol too.

@sheamas88: its brand new. You probably don't use it much to know. If your happy with it, it meets your needs and its a good product for you as a customer.

@Will Mcdonald: Fair enough, just trying to understand your vague "I don't like em"

              • @sheamas88: There's absolutely nothing wrong with the product, i just hate removing the blade and cleaning it while on site. I would usually finish up and clean it at the end of the day, not every 30 minutes.

Anything up to 6" - 8" an electric saw is way better IMO I can't speak to this particular saw but for home use those would be more then adequate I'd think and a blessing to your neighbors.

I lived on a farm in the bush, lots of saws, but my goto was my Sthil esaw No smell for transport in the Ute, instant on, instant off (no need to idle while its on the ground while you move the job etc), super quiet (no muffs needed) never an issue starting, no fumes or pollution from an exhaust

You still need a big petrol saw for big stuff of course but 80% of the time my esaw as good enough or for long days.

  • Any deals on drills

  • stuck in the Makita ecosystem and looking for a 36V chainsaw … tempted to jump on this though

I’ve not heaps of tools. But don’t see a problem running two ecosystems (I’ve Makita and DeWalt). That way I get access to deals and range from two brands. The only negative is that I’ve two charges on the bench.

I got 4 chargers, but 4x the opportunity to score a bargain!

Just got a 36v Makita 300mm saw, very happy with it (only done some test cuts so far but researched heaps).

Mine is in the mail too! Decided to save money and get the skin only since I have batteries and a charger. Good to here it's been OK. My old petrol chainsaw was a pain to start and upkeep. This should be much easier.

So much easier it's not even funny 🙂

  • Good deal, the bare saw was $500 about 5 years ago with no redemptions so there's an inflation buster for you. I've used it plenty and agree it does tend to clog up around the chain cover especially if your cutting palms but overall its perfectly functional.
I also have and rate the pole saw which even though it has a much smaller bar they've used less plastic and more metal in key places. The new 20" version is also less plasticy.

Doesn't the spotlight usually come with the X1 kit, did you just apply for that redemption after you purchased the 575N kit and it worked? Did you receive both the spotlight and chair?

      Yep, Yep and Yep ;)
