AFPAYDAY

I've been wanting a Thermapen for a long time. This is quite possibly the Eneloop of food thermometers. This pink one is 20% off the item's normal price + Afterpay 15% bringing it down to the lowest I have come across.

About this item:

Displays the temperature of food or liquid in just ONE second!

The Thermapen ONE is the ultimate kitchen thermometer for the cook who knows. Quick, accurate and easy to use measuring temperature over the range of -49.9 to 299.9°C with a 0.1°C resolution.

Using industry leading thermocouple technology, the Thermapen One has a patented self-rotating display that can be used in any position, in either hand. The unit incorporates an intelligent backlit - improved LCD in cool white display sensing light levels, automatically turning the backlight on/off in varying light conditions. The motion-sensing sleep mode automatically turns it off when set down, re-awakening when picked up again - saving battery life. The casing is washable and includes Biomaster Antimicrobial Technology that reduces bacterial growth.

The Thermapen One is waterproof to IP67 and incorporates a reduced tip, stainless steel, penetration probe that conveniently folds back through 180° into the side of the instrument when not in use. Powered by a single AAA battery with a life expectancy of 2000 hours in normal use, without the backlight. Both low battery (icon) and open circuit indication are displayed, when applicable. Each Thermapen One is supplied with a FREE traceable certificate of calibration.

Warranty and service repair is available through Ross Brown Sales.

These are excellent. I got one for 52 bucks back in 2016 and legitimately use it daily. It would be in my top 5 most-used kitchen/household tools.

I'd pay triple and still be happy with the outcome.

    • That was the classic thermapen, 2-3s (still pretty fast).

    • +1

Same. If my kitchen burned down, it’s the first thing I’m replacing.

    • What makes it so much better than the cheap generic $20 thermometer you can get on Amazon?

      • +2

They are actually accurate, they also get a reliable reading in under 2 - 3 seconds which can't be said for the majority of the cheaper ones. If you know someone who is a good cook but laments they " can't cook meat/fish" this will change their life.

I have the $15-20 amazon one, it is NOT instant read, and takes a good few seconds to read the temp, sometimes up to ten. when youre checking a chunk of meat for temp in various locations, it means youre leaving the oven/bbq/smoker open for a longer time. it's very frusrating. I've been wanting a good quality instant read, but these thermapens are exxy

    Thermometer $128.70

    🤣

I bought a similar one from Amazon for $8.49 and fine but no longer available now. Most from Amazon only around $20-$30

There was a common joke in Russia a few years after oligarchs took over the country. Two oligarch wives were comparing their identical Prada bags. The first said my husband got it for me for US$10,000. The other one scoffed and one upped her, saying her husband spent US$50,000 on that same bag.

    • This has to be the best dad joke i've ever heard.

These are awesome - I've had one (although an earlier model) for 5-6 years. Accurate, fast, and made to last

  • How accurate do you need these to be? I mean we're not measuring the fever of an infant here.

    • +1

Pretty spot on for a medium rare steak, although if you know the nuances of your cheapo thermometer, then you can make your own adjustments. However the reading time on a cheap thermometer takes much longer.

I've owned a thermopop before, same makers as thermapen, and it easily beats anything else I've bought, and the thermapen is even better than that.

    • +1

Plus or minus a couple of degrees, max. Particularly for steak, chicken or fish. Wouldn't matter at all for a roast, however.

The speed of that accuracy is what is really useful though. From poke to accurate temp reading is as close to immediate as possible.

In my experience infants don't enjoy being prodded with these, but for a steak it works very well

  • I must have been unlucky, I have two V3 thermopens and they both have issues with the durability of the hinge after 1-2 years, it can be hard to get them to turn on. The performance of the thermometer itself is great, but not sure I'd buy it again, I'd like them to have lasted longer given their massive price premium

    • Same here and same problem.

After some years it doesn't turn on without opening and closing several times.

      Wont buy again.

      • What did you get as a replacement?

        • It's still working, but I just wouldn't buy it again when I need to replace it.

          … Unless there is a deal I can't refuse

      • I've just received my thermapen.

Thermapen classic comes with a 2 year warranty - you could've contacted them if it was still within 2 years. Thermapen ONE comes with a 4 year warranty.

  • Love my thermapen, don't love the price.

If you are looking for a cheaper equivalent then cheap out the Lavatools Javelin PRO Duo. ~$76 on ebay.

  • Bought one, Thanks OP!

  • I have the inkbird digital thermometers and highly rate it
I get an accurate reading within 2-3 seconds

    https://amzn.asia/d/ibToxAe

    • I have the inkbird digital thermometers and highly rate it

That is why I don't understand why would somebody pay over $120 for a thermometer

      • Likewise. How is this Thermapen more than 4 times as good as the rechargeable Inkbird IHT-1P (even at the discounted price) ?

The only possible advantage with this might be if you were into Barbie-mania, and wanted pink instead of orange. In reality there isn't much difference between a 1 second read (if this is truly 1 second) and 3 second.

        • My $9 one is fine and also very quick, I think that may be a promo or price error for $9 and not available anymore and look exactly like the pink one or other similar on Amazon.

    • Inkbird is ok, but it feels slow compared to my thermopop (which is slower than thermapen)
