OP, not related to this deal sorry, but are you expecting flights to Japan to discount once boarders are fully reopen?

    • +2

i dont think they are going to need to. Everyone i speak to says they are going to buy tickets as soon as the boarder opens.

    • +1

As PixelPaul says, they probably do not need to. However I expect that they will have a sale for the next low season (eg Feb-Mar) depending on when borders reopen to tourists.

    • -4

I thought the borders were already open to Japan. I booked for end of January already. From what I looked up, there is no need for quarantine. Just have to show a negative test 72 hours before going.

      • +3

it is open but if you're a tourist you legally have to go on a package tour atm. it is expected to end soon but noone knows when. JP post just reopened EMS shipping to aus so its a good sign things are getting back to normal

        • Yeh that's what I read also.. all good. We are going snowboarding. We will just have to take a local around with us if need be lol. We are hoping that the "tour guide" rule has been squashed by then though. Fingers crossed.

          • @oison: Most likely will be open for unrestricted tourism by december, Prime Minister hinted this week. our tix is for early feb.

          • +3

@oison: Uh it's not that simple. You need to book an approved tour and be escorted around your whole trip. You can only visit approved locations / venues.

            • @FSTB: Book 100% refundable accomidation, I have never seen ski resorts so cheap.
This guy give it a 85% chance of open to unrestricted tourism by december.

@sonicentropy: I'm dying to go to Japan but I don't feel confident in booking just yet because Japan's government seems so wish washy. They can decide to reopen but decide to change it back again in a blink of an eye. Waiting for an official announcement before booking anything unfortunately :(

              • @sonicentropy: I'm planning to go Japan for snow in Feb, but haven't really started looking at them yet. Which ski resorts are you referring to? We haven't really decided on the resorts yet. Thanks

              • @sonicentropy: What and where is "cheap " for the ski resorts in Japan?

Very close to booking a spring snow trip in Vic.

Lift/ park entry prices are brutal though.

            • +1

@FSTB: Yeah I doubt his plans are within the North Korean tour guidelines. You can only do what the tour operator has planned and cannot leave the tour. 50/50 that it changes before next year.

              • @ozbargainer88: I'm going to Japan in December. My wife is from Japan and I am eligible, by application, for a special family visa. As mentioned above, their border is definitely CLOSED to regular tourists.

As far as she has read coming out of Japan, and within Australia, is that Japan is unlikely to open borders to foreign tourists NOT on a fully scheduled/sanctioned tour, as mentioned above, until early/mid next year.

If you have booked travel to Japan expecting to board your plane without an approved travel and stay scheduled by an approved company, I'd seriously consider checking refund or reschedule eligiblity.

Unfortunately it's likely snowboarding in Japan will have to wait until the following season for most…

    • you can book to Japan, but you have to have an approved tour booked also, otherwise you will be returned to where you came from.

Border: a line separating two countries, administrative divisions, or other areas.

Boarder: a person who receives regular meals when staying somewhere, in return for payment or services.

      • +19

As someone who saw thousands of Facebook comments during covid saying “close the boarder” I am thankful for gladbears’ service.

$139 one way to bali. Good deal, boogie bag packed

    • And then swim back home???

      • +4

I think he might be staying for about 10 years. Meals and accommodation included

        • -2

that will depend if someone will kiss and tell……

      • -1

Nah. He'll just have to invite some skinny Indonesian rando into the gaol for "conjugal visits" to try and garner sympathy from a judge… and upon release get deported for free.

        • -1

*Assuming he doesn't make it through customs and then get blown to bits at a nightclub.

  • Thanks OP. While making a booking this morning the good seats were vanishing each time I refreshed the page.

    Holiday now booked!

  • Looks like I'm going to New Zealand next year. Cheers OP! :)

    • You will love it, are you going to both south and north island. I flew in the south then caught a ferry to the north and flew out. Dont forget your velco gumboots

      • I did north and south a few years ago, and my wife and I liked Queenstown the most, so I think we'll just operate from there for a week.

  • Has anybody here bought it through MyTrip.com? It's cheaper than buying on Jetstar web site.

    • Speaking as someone who bought tickets through a booking site just before the pandemic, I recommend you check the refund policy before you book. And find out what will happen if they go bankrupt between booking and holiday, I lost a heap of money when STA travel went bust, with nothing to show for it.

avoid mytrip at all expense.I had a nightmare dealing with them a few months ago, will never deal with them again. Gotogate is
      same company>read the reviews online

      • That is what i thought. Better go with jetstar

  • Any flights to Bangkok OP?

  • Got my return flight travelling to Phuket over the Christmas break for $2200 last week… It's now gone up to $2400, so I guess I got a bargain?

    • +4

Always nice to have a happy ending!

  • Hoping for a good Fiji deal over new years.

  • Thanks OP! Remember to apply for Visa/passports early since I've heard the waiting times can be unpredictable

  • FYI, people in Hawaii dont want tourists at the moment due to over tourism since covid. If you go, you could be treated with hostility

    • Where did you find this out from?

      • +1

Search "Hawaii tourists stay away". Lots of articles. Started 12 months ago and they have renewed the push this year.

  • if i want to continue from Hawaii to nyc what's the cheapest way to go?

    • It varies.

Flying?…. most likely via LAX; but then it may be cheaper to stopover again before getting to NYC.

In the USA most/all airlines have hubs. So you fly in to and out of their home city for cheaper fares.

      • yes it seems that flights from honolulu to nyc are well over $1000 -at least the ones without a stop- which is quite crazy if you think about i would have thought that there are more people flying from nyc to Honolulu then from australia to hawaii

  • I was lucky to get the fares I did when I did this morning for Bali (end April/beg May)…there were only a few seats left on each flight….I was stuck with those dates as I already have accommodation booked (from original booking May 2020….has been pushed back again till next year) Booked flex for the way over, and waiting for Garuda to release dates for End April (assuming it will be Fridays)….so will then cancel the Jetstar flight over, get voucher credit to use in the future, and use my Garuda flight credit, even if I lose some of it by booking a one way, as I would prefer to go over with Garuda (much earlier landing time)

  • Hace refundable flights already booked to Bali but departure date is 23rd March. Was hoping to cancel and rebook with this deal but from ADL it's only for departures by 22nd March :(((((

  • Thanks OP, doing a long weekend in Bali for my mates 40th!

  • +5

how come when i do Bali it says approx "300 return" but there are no options for less than $500 for any of the dates listed?
    very misleading

  • +3

The first screen shows flights for departure to Phuket for $168 and return to Melbourne for $169, A total of $337 https://imgur.com/a/VuCWEpz.

When you click on find flights, Magicaly now the cheapest return flight is $526 https://imgur.com/a/hMnccqt

    What a useless service.

    • +1

Agree that it's misleading and frustrating.
Lots of $166 one-way, giving $332 - $334 Return in the calendar, only to get offers of $570-650. Then above are more teasers for slightly different dates for $334 return. Select them and the price jumps to $600+, with more low prices teasers.

      Something wrong with the guestimates/teasers.

      • Wouldn't be surprised if most of the popular routes were sold out of the cheapest fare types for many dates within the first 12 hours of the sale.
Not unusual. As you can see comments above seats were disappearing early as pages were being refreshed.

If you clicked within the first few however and had this experience, I agree.

  • If you are willing to pay $55 you can join the Jetstar Club and get early opportunities to buy Jetstar sale tickets before non-members.

  • +1

I paid $361 via Jetstar website yesterday. That's return Bali flights, direct from Brisbane

    • Sorry serious question as I’ve never been to Bali. Is that price considered cheap? I’m looking at the same price for Sydney

  • OP, when does this expire please?
