Looks like a buy I might jump on.

Would this ASUS router replace the voda wifi hub and plugs straight to the white nbn box?

This wifi business is so confusing.

    • assuming you have fttp then yes, you can just plug this router to the white nbn box

      • I'm on FTTC
Wanting to get rid of the ugly voda modem (using it now with exetel)
So basically If I get this ASUS it won't replace the router I have?

        • +1

Should work for anything not FTTN, though looks like Exetel is using PPPoE so make sure you set up the ASUS with the username and password Exetel gave you when you signed up.

@alz Asus RT-AX53 plugs into the nbn NCD.

          1. Disconnect the Vodafone Wi-Fi hub.
          2. Wait at least 30 minutes (don't skip this step or else the RT-AX53 won't connect).
          3. Plug in the RT-AX53 into the nbn NCD.
          4. Login to the routers IP address in your web browser - Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge.
          5. Advanced settings.
          6. WAN settings.
          7. Configure the WAN connection type to PPPoE with your username & password given to you by Exetel.

@Twix: Thanks for the technical support, much appreciated.

You need to contact Vodafone nbn support for that . Mine works directly from NBN box on the wall using the WAN port of ASUS router . Also Amazon Eero wifi6 works directly . But TP link Deco M4 and M5 are not working directly , I have to connect through Optus provided modem .

I am more happy with TP link Deco ( although Wi-Fi 5 only ) then ASUS AX55 or Eero wifi6 .
I am planning to move to Deco WIFi 6 in near future .

I personally find TP link Deco App better then Eero and ASUS .

      • @archer175 To get the Deco plugged into the nbn NTD follow these steps.

        1. Disconnect the Optus modem.
        2. Wait at least 30 minutes (don't skip this step or else the Deco won't connect).
        3. Reset the Deco to factory default.
        4. Delete and re-download the Deco app.
        5. Plug in the Deco into the nbn NTD.
        6. Open the Deco app and during installation put the internet type as Dynamic IP for Vodafone.
  • Looking for asus rt ax55 😓

    • Is it better than this one?

  • is it another crappy 100 dollar wifi 6 router or is it good value for money

    • +15

      Yes

      • Yes crap or Yes good value for money?

        • Yes

  • Is this good for NordVPN so that I can use Chromecast with a VPN?

    • It has a VPN client so Nord will work on it.

  • My AC68U is not very unstable, need lots of extra setups to make it works.

    • +5

Ac68U is stable or unstable? Looks like it is very unstable from what you’ve written.

      • Not very unstable means it's stable. Lol

        • +2

well, in a 0-10 scale where 0 is very unstable and 10 is very stable,
"not very unstable" could be anything between 3-10
so it could still be "a little bit unstable" lol

          • +2

@AsukaST: Can you count on it to be unstable though? Is it stably unstable?

    • +1

      Tried Merlin?

    • +10

      Your statement is not unambiguous

      • +1

Your comment is not very unrelevant. lol

    • +3

My AC68U is very stable, need not much setups to make it works.

      • Lol

      • so in a 0-10 scale where 0 is very stable and 10 is very unstable, would you say it is a 2 stable?

        • Actually a TM AC1900 running Merlin. I'd go with a 0 as a standalone unit.

    • Congrats on having a stable AC68U

  • $26.85 per antenna

  • I bought one only to add AIMesh node.

    Surprisingly good signal.

    Sluggish user interface.
