YouTube Premium India Crackdown

Hi All,

After following the instructions from all of you I have been happily enjoying YouTube premium on a monthly rate of Rs 129. However, today I got an email that my payment got declined.

I went to my YouTube profile used Cyber Ghost VPN from my iPhone and tried updating my credit card and after it processed the payment through let’s say BankWest portal the message I got was “Unable to process my payment”

I have two days to sort it out. Recently my existing card got expired and I updated my new card. I went to my India profile tried using entering the card with Australian address and a generic Indian address the results are the same.

Can you guys help me please?

            @justanick: Just create another account.
I nearly have more Google accounts than there are countries in this world.

          • @justanick: I had the same issue about 6 months ago. I waited for it to expire then just re added the same Australian credit card it has been working fine since then. I didn't need to add an indian card nor use a vpn to add the credit card again.

            • @Sean8802: Okay thank you. Let me another 24 hours to see what happens and I’ll update you all if my account gets cancelled.

              • @justanick: My membership was expired, it even reverted back to basic YT. I just re added the same credit card from the email they sent telling me it had been cancelled. It has been working fine ever since

  • I changed banks and found I couldn't change my payment method in YT. Still lets me change the backup payment so I'm still fine so far.

I used my Citibank MasterCard which worked with VPN.

    • Which VPN are you using? Could you please share the step by step process of using Citi bank Mastercard?

      • I use Ivacy VPN but main thing is to have a card which U can use overseas to pay. It was straight forward, changed payment details in my main google account, then at youtube premium, chose family plan for yearly renewal and used my payment method to pay for the plan.

Indian still working OK for me. As a side note, youtube are asking for people to do this, charging a ridiculous $20 a month for ad free youtube. That's more expensive then any of the streaming services. If they charged $5 a month, they'd get a LOT MORE subscribers. Clueless!

Indian was working well for me until my old BankWest credit card expired. Now I’m screwed as the new card keeps getting an error message as payment couldn’t be added as card is outside of India. Lucky for some people or it’s just me.

I agree if I had to pay $5 a month I’ll happily pay for it to avoid those ridiculous KFC ads.

        Did somebody say KFC?

        • I don’t care!

      • I used Comm Bank Step pay and Proton VPN premium.
Can provide steps if needed but mostly is straightforward and similar to others.

        • Could you please inbox me with steps? When it goes to razorpay as it’s not an Indian card what do you do?

    • Youtube wants people to watch the ads as it generate more revenue than the paid subscriptions.

Try Argentina. Worked for me few months ago, may be still working.

Thank you all. I went to Argentina now. Yes I can confirm I have tried everything and India now checks for local Indian credit card authentication. They suspended my account.

After that I used Tunnel Bear VPN to get access to Argentina server and sign up using Argentina.

NordVPN is crap I logged into Argentina but what my IP showed I’m in South Korea.

I hope this helps some folks out there who are and will be in similar situation.

Hi mate, thanks a tonne. Really appreciate this. Exact same thing just happened to me
Signed up to YT Premium India
      CC Expired
Came to Ozb to post about it
      Found your post
Installed NordVPN ( worked best for me..paid $13, then utilised their 30 day satisfaction guarantee, and requested a full refund with live chat)
Purchased with no international fee card HSBC, using Argentina server.

Thanks mate. Tunnel Bear didn't work for me. Said unable to install for some weird reason.

  • I've ditched the YouTube app and use the browser with an ad-block. Free and no more ads.

  • you get youtube premium for free with brave browser

been using it so long i totally forgot there were ads on youtube until i accidentally loaded the youtube app once

    • Adblocker = premium lol

    • I can’t use the browser on iOS let’s say listening to music while driving or in the background when phone’s screen is off.

Ad blocking is awesome and all, but YT Premium is more than just ad-free viewing.

You also get YT Music, background play (i.e., with screen off, or as PIP), offline viewing to download videos etc.

      • That’s right. This is reason I wanted to sign up to YT premium

  • Is there a you tube video for idiots on how to block ads on YouTube,
I needs this for computer illiterate 70s child self .

I usually just bump the vids I like a few times on important stuff like westmedia or frendlyjordies to push up their views as a form of support,
no cash though as I own a car and like to eat , have electricity , running water , ect
    You know the luxuries

  • STube Android App with (sponsorblock) works great on my Sony TV and FireStick devices.

Just dropping a follow up here after going through the same thing:

    1. India (#1 cheapest) isn't available for Premium anymore according to youtube, VPN's are pulling out because of some data storage law, and the Credit card validation just drops it from working anyways.

    2. Argentina and Turkey (#2 and #3 cheapest) VPN didn't work for me, Youtube behaved weird with "cant validate the country", tried multiple different things which wouldn't work.

    3. Philipines was the cheapest available (#4) which worked for me at ~$4/month
