Good morning all,

The Virgin Australia website has plenty of fares on sale, with a majority of them ending on 10th June, 2012.
There are reduced prices on Domestic and International fares.

Just booked some tickets for work through their site to Canberra, and saved a decent amount of cash. The base fare was just under $110 each way, opposed to our last booking of $136 each way.

In my opinion, some decent deals include (Sydney as my base city):
- Melbourne from $69.00
- Brisbane from $69.00
- Adelaide from $85.00
- Ballina Byron from $55.00
- Cairns from $129.00
- Gold Coast from $55.00
- Hamilton Island from $88.00

There's plenty more! Just have a look and see if anything tickles your fancy. Just adjust your base city using the drop down menu to access the fares most relevant to you.

Also check out the Happy Hour Sale between 4pm and 6pm today. It could mean a further reduction in prices!

Kind Regards,

Decent domestic deals there. Internationals I think are way over priced.

Wait for happy hour (4pm-6pm) and see if prices are any different.

Virgin sale prices are good but your post is lousy - given the details you have listed it would not have been hard to include main travel dates for this sale:
      01 Dec, 2012 - 22 Dec, 2012; and
      16 Jan, 2013 - 30 May, 2013

Also I'm looking now at 5.20pm and I see no mention of happy hour…..!

Isn't that just at lunchtime? or on Fridays? Happy to remove the neg if you can show me where I am missing it!

What I hate about Virgin is the canned BS of packaged 'fun': i.e. "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls" to a 5.30am flight full of adults…!!

So, this airline offers Specials -only- from SYD!?!

No, you just need to change the location at the top right.

      • No place to do that up there on Right side.

        • It's immediately next to the "Best Fares" on the right in the banner. Options to insert from and to locations.

I still think jetstar is cheaper but virgin is definitely better than tiger :p

    • Never had an issue with Virgin. With Tiger, I booked a flight to Melbourne just before the entire airline was grounded. That wasn't much fun. Also, I'd had some headaches in the past with respect to Jetstar and their punctuality.
I've shifted over to Virgin, and for the last three months, I haven't experienced any issues. Very satisfied with the service. But I do appreciate that everybody will have different experiences. :)

      • Only flight with Virgin this year was delayed by 60-90mins (can't remember cause I zoned out after 60mins and they were still taking people off the plane). Flight was overweight and they didn't start taking people off until everyone was seated and everything packed away… took forever for them to slowly offer incentives, went from any volunteers to $100 credit for another flight to full refund (all were put on later flights). Took their time to get to full refund though and only then did they have any significant amount of people volunteering. In total look 14 people off the flight.

Flown with Jetstar 6 times since, had one issue with a plane being turned back midflight due to mechanical problems and the flight was cancelled at the airport. Put up in a resort of sorts overnight. The handling was done poorly though.

Have booked byt haven't flown 6 flights with QANTAS, they cancelled one flight in August though and promptly notified me by email on the same day and rang me in the evening. Missed the call and they rang back twice the next day in the afternoon. Handled well with an Australian based centre offering I suppose plenty of options (they automatically moved me to an earlier flight and said if it was an inconvenience there were options, went straight for the refund and manually rebooked on Jetstar.)

Reason I'm travelling on QANTAS and Jetstar is because they're both offering ticket prices cheaper than Virgin. Virgin is cheaper than QANTAS if travelling carry on only but with luggage QANTAS wins with 23kg checked luggage included. Jetstar and Virgin are about on par with pricing but whenever I need to book tickets Jetstar always comes out cheaper by $10-20 (savings knocked off because of upgrade to get FF points and seat selection though). Only reason I'm flying purely Jetstar and QANTAS now is because of those 12 flights I've flown/planned they've been the cheapest and it won't take much more effort to get me to Silver status on QFF (especially considering tickets are either going to be cheaper or on par with Jetstar when I need to book)

Never ever going to fly with Tiger. They might be cheaper but not by enough to make me risk the hassle, not to mention pay $30 (IIRC) more to check in at the counter…

        • "Flight was overweight"

I've never heard of that happening before. Fat passengers or heavy luggage?

        • maybe the calculations at check in were wrong…

        • It was an almost full flight with only a few spare seats. Apparently there was too much fuel on-board waited 30mins for them to find a pump to pump it off but apparently Sydney airport doesn't have one so that was 30mins wasted before they started taking people off.

Taking a conservative average of each passenger being 70kg each including their carry on. That's 980kg, 14 lots of 15kg baggage means another 210kg that's 1190kg… I also forgot that there were 7 or 8 people with carry on only taken off as well, that's another 490kg, I remember doing calcs in my head that we came to about 1750kg being taken off.
Was not a good feeling knowing 10-15% of the passengers was taken off and we were at the upper limit of the weight allowance, made me uneasy about whether the engines were set to a lower thrust setting or we were carrying something we weren't supposed to carry…

        • Interesting. I've never had that and I fly Virgin almost exclusively. I generally fly Virgin around 10 times a year, with Jetstar/Qantas making up 1 or 2 flights a year. Only delays I have encountered were fog in Albury (turned around to Sydney and swapped to a Melbourne flight), and a delay with wild weather in Sydney meaning planes couldn't land (was in Melbourne but we still managed to sneak in under the Sydney curfew). I find Virgin to be far superior to Jetstar for service and their planes seem nicer to me. Last Jetstar flight I got I hardly had any legroom, and I'm only 5'9!
I'd love to go Qantas, but the extra cost (I worked out last year to fly Qantas would have cost me around $1200 more) just isn't worth it for the benefit of getting a meal on the plane, and the "privilege" of tagging and checking my own bloody baggage (Sydney Airport).

        • Hahah yeah, I only fly QANTAS when there's a sale on that puts it equal with Jetstar. I'm also 5'9" and I find the legroom okay, both similar on virgin and Jetstar. Seats were crappy on both. On the virgin flight the plane seemed dated and dirty, but with that being said you get the same with Jetstar, just the luck of the draw with how well they clean up after the last flight. Mechanical, weather and delays that are outside of their control are understandable, but when it's something like a simple addition/clerical error, that's just a total !@#$up, easily corrected by pumping less fuel onboard instead of having to get it off is just incompetent. In terms of service, I've had both bad and excellent service on both Jetstar and Virgin, it just comes to the luck of the draw. Jetstar is a budget airline with budget service.
So far Virgin to me has charged QANTAS like pricing for Jetstar like service (inconsistent and all over the place). Although must give Virgin the thumbs up for QANTAS like scheduling.

Few days ago, I check price from Brisbane to Melbourne for 19/8, it was $99 one way, now it is $135 one way. Not a deal for me as they raise the price for this promotion and people think they get a good deal. It is still cheaper than Qantas ($175) though, but Tiger Airways ($89.95) is cheaper than them for this route on the same date. So neg from me.

    • But Virgin and Tiger just cannot be compared… They're heading towards QANTAS level but not quite there.

      • Well if you're saying Qantas is crap, then yes… Tiger is almost there ;).

But putting Virgin with Tiger is a little unfair- completely different. Tiger and Jetstar- yes, crap.

        • I was comparing Virgin with QANTAS and saying how Virgin and Tiger just doesn't compare.
