Nearly dropped $250 on a Patagonia jacket but this is too good to walk away from.

    • -3

I walked away. Summer is coming.

Also every minute in africa 60 seconds pass

      • +1

Oh, planning to do something drastic in the next 8 months?

    • +1

But this one is featherless. Only nylon.

Why not similar polyester Kmart jacket for cheaper?

      • -2

        Great point.

      • +4

It has a cool logo on it 😅🤔

      • +4

Lol because not all people are utilitarian about what they wear?

Have you tried on some of Kmart's clothes? The fits can be boxy as hell, the quality of the zippers and lining terrible. Jackets are more than just what filling is inside- the shell material, stitching etc all matter too.

Not saying all/most brands are worth their over-inflated RRPs but there's definitely a difference between most (quality) outdoor brands and what you can pickup from Kmart/Big W- both in terms of workmanship and style.

        • +4

Absolutely. Kmart clothes are complete garbage and overpriced for what they are. Marmot is a top quality outdoors brand, you can tell from the moment you pick up one of their pieces.

  • Does anyone know how these sizes compare against Kathmandu? Size guide didn’t really help my decision haha

  • How warm is it comparing to MacPac Halo Down Jacket?

    • -3

      700 fill power down

      Warmer

      • +4

Nah just because it provides a better warmth-to-weight ratio doesn't mean it's warmer.

The Macpac Halo is considerably thicker than most down jackets seen on here, and from a glance thicker than this Marmot one (though the types of down used is different too so not directly comparable).

A jacket with a higher FP but less feathers/filling inside won't be as warm as a jacket with a significant amount of feathers inside.

E.g. the Macpac Uber Light has a higher FP of 650 over the Halo's 600, but try both in store and you'll find the Halo is much warmer (and larger/heavier).

There’s perception and there’s reality. Statistics don’t lie

            @tharlow:

Higher fill power numbers indicate greater loft and insulating efficiency. (It’s important to note that down fill power does not tell you how warm a jacket or a sleeping bag will be because too many other factors affect warmth, including how much of that down fill is in the jacket or bag.)

            https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/what-is-down-fill-po…

A higher down fill rating doesn’t necessarily mean one jacket will be warmer than another. The down fill rating number is a measurement of down quality, meaning the cubic inches of loft one ounce of the specific down produces. A higher rating means less down fill is required to capture the same amount of heat.

            https://www.outdoorresearch.com/blog/demystifying-down-fill-…

The heavier the amount of insulation, the warmer a jacket is. Say you have two jackets, one is insulated with 100 grams of 550 fill power down, and the other one with 60 grams of 700 fill power down. Which one is warmer? The first one.

I guess that’s where I stopped reading. It’s a shame they don’t understand basic thermodynamics

@tharlow: It's a shame you don't understand basic English comprehension.

Fill power is a warmth to weight ratio. How much warmth it gives for a set amount of weight. A higher fill power will provide more warmth FOR THE SAME WEIGHT. (Important for hardcore hikers.)

Fill weight is the weight of insulation material. How much insulation material you actually have.

Actual warmth provided will be a function of the two (plus other factors, but those are basically the two main ones to give a basic measurement).

A material with a really high fill power is not going to do much for you if you only have enough to cover your pinky finger. Conversely, if you use enough of a low fill power material, then you could insulate your whole house with it.

You don't have to understand basic thermodynamics to understand this.

  • OOS for L black while checking out

  • How is the sizing compare to Macpac. I know Macpac runs larger in size.

    • Yeah, I wish there is an international standard so humans don't have to face the frustration anymore.

      • Ask USA about International standards…haha

  • +1

Please note all size guides are provided by suppliers and although we do our best to ensure these are accurate, they can vary person to person and brand to brand. If an item does not fit, it is considered a change of mind return.

**For change of mind purchase the customer is responsible for return postage costs.

    • +1

If it didn't fit just sell it on Gumtree/eBay, would sell in a flash at this price

  • hell yeah, thanks OP!

  • Damn. No Large left. Good deal. Won’t be as warm as normal down but normal down doesn’t go well with getting wet whereas this polyester fill can get wet and still perform.

    • Large is still available mate while I am typing this. No small or medium unfortunately.

  • OOS

  • Nooo, missed it

  • +1

Gone. Happy sweating for those who got one!

  • Thanks OP! Just snaffled one :)

    • Arrived today. Very happy. Thanks again OP :)

  • Thanks got one, no M but buy L size instead.

  • Seems they are restocking as I see comments about no Medium, but medium available now

  • Only XL available now.

Edit - nope. Thats gone as well. All sold out

  • Looks like they are all gone.

  • XL came back into stock, almost bought it but ill let someone else have it

edit gone now, keep checking back i guess they keep finding a few or they are getting released from basket time outs

  • -1

Just be mindful this is featherless. Kmart or BigW jacket is cheaper for the same style.

    • +4

I have both but this one looks and feels much better.

    • This jacket is made with 3M Thinsulate.

One from Kmart or bigw won't be.

  • XL, M and S are all showing in Stock for me now

    • Still says out of stock for me

      • Showing In Stock, but now price is $135

    • That was for colours other than black?

  • +2

Prices have changed to $135 for all sized and colours in the last 15min even though it is OOS.
    Maybe a price error?

  • Thanks OP and thanks josepet

  • Thanks OP, I got one. Apple Pay checkout is super fast!

    • +1

Got delivered today. Very happy with the quality.

  • If they have a special on the alassian jacket it's a step up.
Also fwiw marmot is a very standard fit, so if you're a slim fit or prefer your jacket snug these generally aren't for you
    But still
    Great jacket

  • only marmots wear puffer jackets

  • Anyone know if there is a specific way to pack this jacket into its pocket and what the purpose of having the main zipper able to flip inside the jacket?
