  • Impressive price considering it's e-Ink screen. I wonder whether it's the same screen as the "pearl" model in my Kindle 3? The software could be horrible but then it's not a complicated thing to render a document that's standardised… could be a great buy.

    Review

As an ebook reader this device preforms ok.
The interface is clear and easy to read but lacks in extended options.
The main options I would have expected that were missing are the ability to copy books from the sd card to the reader, a connection to an online library for downloading books, cover preview for books in your library.
The screen flashes black a lot as I change pages or try to navigate around the menus and causes the interface to feel very unresponsive.
But I would much prefer to read on this device than a TFT or LCD screen anyday.
    Pros:
lightweight, easy to read indoors and out, e-ink screen is light on battery
    Cons:
no cover preview for books, book titles are shortened to fit on the screen, very slow screen redraw in menus, no copy to / from sd card options

  • Good luck finding one, at least in Sydney. Only 2 of the 10 or so shops returned from my search were not Out of stock but even then it was Call shop to check.

    • Doesn't look like VIC has a lot left either.

    • None near me either; Mid North Coast/North Cast :(

  • None in WA

  • none near 3056.
But seems they still have refurbished Kindle 3 for $99 (online only).

    • can say we had 2 listed in stock at Roselands yesterday, one being the display model & the other most likely new in box (didn't check)

  • Just went into North sydney store, they said they dont have anything other than kindle…
so either the website is wrong or the bloody staff saved some for themselves! :(

Online stock status may only be updated daily or when sold online. Thats why they advise to call store when stock is listed as low. As it may already be sold out by the time you get to the store.

With DSE , if you cannot get it online it not a real bargain because usually there is not enough stock.

  • Melbourne…gawn

  • none in Canberra..GFD

  • Expired no stock anywhere!

I checked Vic , Melbourne and surrounds

  • Picked up the last one at the Southland store a couple of hours ago. They originally gave me a 7" TFT ebook reader by mistake.

This is excellent value for money. The reader comes with a pretty cool looking case as well.

    • My wife just went to Southland - none left (even though the computer says they have them), so she managed to grab the last 2 from Mentone.
She also got shown the colour one first!
