White Nintendo DSi $144.52 Delivered from Amazon UK (Maybe Pricing Error?)

93

Ok, so I saw this DSi for 99 pounds which is way cheaper than in Australia, and then when I go into the checkout, it actually took the price down to 90.98 pounds!
Check out this screenshot to see what I mean: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/2163/wowsn.png
This equates to $144.52, and the next best price is around $200.
I hope this deal helps someone looking to get a DSi

Note: ones going for $130 on eBay are fixed faulty DSi consoles.
Note: the upgraded version costs $210 delivered, so this is significantly cheaper.

A brand new 3DS is £124 pounds from the same store, and has the same functions + more and better resale

    • -5
      • 8 pounds delivery.

That's 209 AUD in total, and it doesn't improve much on the DSi, which costs $145

      • +12

I'd say playing a whole new generation of games is a pretty big improvement, whether you like 3d or not

        • +3

The fact that the 3DS is much better (which it certainly is) is not the point. The point is, $144 is a good price for this specific device, and there are a lot of people who aren't interested in having the latest and greatest device. Sure, you could pay the extra $50 or so and have the ability to play all future 3DS games — but many people will be happy to buy the cheaper one-generation-old console, and play the cheaper one-generation-old games. The fact that it doesn't interest you isn't a reason to neg.

        • +1

I take your point. I personally feel though that those who want to save the money might as well save another $50 and get a second hand unit. In the end of the day $50 isn't a huge saving really (factoring in game costs). That or get a DS Lite….from what I can see from here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_DS_games) the number of DSi exclusives is extremely limited anyway, so again you can save more and play 99% of the older titles anyway.

At the price above it's an ok relative to other retailers if you really need a DSi, but ultimately the DSi seems a poor buy to me. It's too close to the 3DS and if you are looking to save money then the DS Lite or a second hand DSi are probably better options that would easily get you by. The new DSi seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place at $150.

        I respect people's choice.
but to be fair, 3DS improve much on the DSi

        DSi —> 3DS
        256 × 192 px —> 800 × 240 px (3D view) + 320 × 240 QVGA
        24 bit color —> 32-bit color
        0.3 MP Camera —> One front-facing and two outward-facing 0.3 MP Cameras
        16MB RAM —> 128MB RAM
Not to mention a better GPU processor.

        3DS also added:
        Circle Pad, 3-axis accelerometer,3-axis gyroscope,3D depth slider,Wireless communications switch

and a load of Preloaded applications on top of DSi:
Nintendo 3DS Camera (Photo + Video Recording and Editing)
        Nintendo 3DS Download Play
        Nintendo 3DS Sound
        Nintendo eShop
        Nintendo Video
        Nintendo Zone
        Activity Log
        Game Notes
        Friends Menu
        Notifications Menu
        Internet Browser
        AR Games
        Face Raiders
        Mii Maker
        StreetPass Mii Plaza
Swapnote (Nintendo LetterBox in PAL region)

      • Not being able to play future titles is a huge issue. Even if you turn the 3D off, a 3DS is a much better buy. They frequently are available locally for $199 and you get a local warranty.

      • +5

That's like saying the DS didn't improve much on the Game Boy Advance. A 3DS and a DS are two different consoles that have different libraries of games. A 3DS is not another DS expansion like the DS Lite or DSi, although a 3DS will play DS games too.

        • +1

Agreed. Stop comparing them, the 3DS doesn't run DS games as well as actual DSes, and the 3DS has a very poor line of titles.

      • …Are you kidding?

    • +7

Why the negative vote? Its a good deal for a DSi, simple as that!

      • Exactly, if I just want to play DS games then the Nintendo DSi for $55 less is the far better buy. Higher resolution screen and more RAM won't make a difference with DS games.

        • In fact, the higher resolution screen is a bit of a pain if you want to play DS games. Depending on your settings, it'll either be upscaled (which looks OK for 3D games, but for anything with pixel art, it looks pretty bad), or you'll be playing on a smaller sized screen.

The DSi itself is not a good deal though.

        • That's opinion, not fact, and not a valid reason for people to neg.

        • -1

Relatively speaking, if you compare what you're getting for the price against a 3DS which isn't much more expensive, it's pretty hard to argue.

I didn't neg it, but I can't agree that it's only "opinion". While it technically is an opinion, at some point common sense takes over. If 3DS only costs $1 more than DSi, it is still technically only opinion that the DSi is not good value relatively speaking. But I would in this case dispense with technicalities and just call it a fact.

  • $130 shipped for a new one seems to be the going price on eBay.

    • +2

from hong kong - they are all branded as new even though they are faulty ones which have been fixed.

      • +3

Well I haven't bought from them personally so I can't comment on that.
On a related note, GAME seems to have the DSi XL for $149 http://www.game.com.au/dsi-xl-red-console/nintendo-ds/DSIXLR…

Should call the stores to find out about stock though.

        • -1

          LOL GAME.

I don't know about any other stores, but my local has already closed down, and been replaced with another shop…..

      • -1

        Got proof?

  • Wont accept one unless its $25

    • -2

      from Dick Smith?

  • -2

    DSi!? O_o ? not 3ds?! #_#.? hmmmmm…….

    • +10

Yeah that's right - you read the title.

  • There was supposed to be a price drop on DSis and DSiXLs, which is probably why it's "cheap".

  • +5

Don't think it's an error. It's last generation.

SRP of a DSi in Australia is now $99.

  • Seems like Amazon US selling the white DSi with free shipping for $111.66 USD.

    http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DSi-Matte-Blue-DS/dp/B001T8S6…

    • Can't seem to get them to ship to Australia, though.

EDIT: No, now I somehow can, but shipping isn't free; it's AU$107.01!

      • +4

        ok, I voted myself a neg. :P

    • +1

As Nezuji said, it is not free shipping to Australia. -1 to myself.

  • Crap deal for a old console -

    • Do you have a better price for a DSi?

  • selling my old 3DS on ebay, never played with it except when street fighter came out, now it's collecting dust

    • link me to it?

  • +4

Bought 2 3DS from DSE Lidcombe the other day for $140 each. Now that's a bargain!

On another note, I find it amusing that people still compare DS/i to the 3DS. It's amazing how many people think it's just a redesign. Probably Nintendo's own fault for not calling it something else entirely.

    • +2

Absolutely agree. And they are making the same mistake with the Wii U.

  • -1

So, how do the R4 Homebrew cards work on the 3DS these days?

    • So your argument is that because the DS is easier breach copyright with, it is a better gaming platform?

      • If that is how you want to see it, then yes. But in reality I was asking whether it is or isn't possible to play homebrew games and backups (with four kids you'd worry about it too) on it.

  • In my opinion i thought the standard sale price of DSi would've been around $100 by now. To think it stayed at $150 roughly is amazing. More expensive then a wii (w/out GC comaptibility) these days (due to the Wii U upcoming release). The 3DS probably doesn't have a large enough market to bring the DSi down.

  • The retail price of a 3DS in the US is $160 USD, which is only a little bit more than this DSi. I'd rather get a 3DS which also plays DS games.

    • Where are you gonna buy a 3DS for $160 delivered? Link? (I checked Amazon, they got it for $185 but don't ship to Australia, I checked PlayAsia and they got it for a minimum of $230 delivered.)
And the 3DS is region locked, you'd have alot of hassle with an American 3DS.

You won't be getting it for $160 shipped. You'd have to pay a little in shipping, depending on who sends it to you. If you have an AMEX card, you can use one of those US addresses that forward mail to you at half price (Amazon should already ship for free to US addresses, all you pay for is the forwarding).

Also, some people managed to snag a 3DS for under $150 at DSE stores that are closing down.

And the 3DS is region locked, you'd have alot of hassle with an American 3DS.

There wouldn't be any hassle at all if you buy your games from the US. It would save you a lot of money too because games retail for double the price if bought locally.

I just think that buying a DSi now would be like buying a Wii next year, or an iPhone 3GS.

Kmart is about to do a sale now, $169 for the 3DS. Now there's no reason to buy the DSi at all.

        • … Except the reasons already stated above.
