"citi" bank? I've never heard of them. Is this some crypto thing you've fallen for?

I wouldn't even bother googling them to see if they're a bank or not, your instincts/fears are accurate.

    1. is citi bank legit bank? Yep, and a rather large one at that!
    2. is this normal process? Pretty much….

This is due to things that may include anti-money laundering laws and other banking regulations….. Sorry mate :)

Banks can be slow to act on things, I'd probably ring and try and get through to someone more senior who can assist - rather than the call centre monkeys.

I wouldn't have done what you did though.. I would have withdrawn my funds to the account that I usually use for to/from the broker, and then transferred to the high interest savings account from there.

Exactly. They're put OP's account on hold because pretty much everybody would have done it the way you said, and the fact that OP didn't do that is suss. They'll eventually clear it once they're sure it was just a goof and not money-laundering or something.

  • there was a time when CITIbank and citi bank was only the largest bank in the world, yes they are legit

Wait… that deal is less and a month ago?

I'm guessing that you tried to pull your money out before you'd even gotten to the end of their process for on boarding a new customer.

A common practice is that banks will get you setup with account numbers etc as quick as possible… the catch is that you still need to meet all the regulatory requirements for KYC (Know Your Customer). Until that happens, you often can deposit funds, but you cannot make any withdrawals.

    Help me out here…
You had no idea who CITI were yet you transferred a large chunk of cash and now ask the question whether they were even a legit bank?

Now you know why scammers are around :)

    • That was my first thought…. Some form of trolling.

Also what is the address of the rock you've been living under to have never heard of Citibank….. ???

    OzB == Google

so you transferred large amount of money and taking them out for just like 2 weeks?

    hmmm kind of money laundering?

    im with citi this time.

go citi!!! hold it for 2 years without interest of course…..

  • I wish Citi is not legit. I owe them a lot of money that now I don't need to pay back.

  • You need to authenticate yourself with the bank so that they know its you.

Until you do this account should not be active.

One could argue that it should not have allowed inbound monies as well.

  • can't even spell "city" correctly. must be scammers for sure
