Confirmed. I visited the website and saw the price as $98.
Note that this model has 10/100 Mbps ports on the secondary nodes. Only the primary node gets gigabit ports. The MW5c and MW5g have gigabit ports on all nodes.
Do you mind explaining, for someone who isn't knowledgeable, why it's important why it's preferable to have gigabyte ports on all 3?
It actually depends on your use case - if you just want to extend wifi throughout the house its 100% fine
If you have any devices without wifi that aren't near the primary node, the ethernet ports would be useful for this, and gigabit is desired on pretty much every device that can support it (10x the speed
While this is a downside, this is still featured and priced better than most equivalents IMO
Would it work with my VoIP phone? How do these mesh nodes wish exactly? Just plug1 into router/modem and plug other 2 into power outlet? Appreciate the info
@OzBoganYeah: VoIP phones for domestic or residential audio calls don't use up much bandwidth. It's a different story if you're using video as well.
100Mbps or even 10Mbps is fine. 1000Mbps is not needed.
@brisdaz: Should i get this mesh pack if i get constant drops from my WiFi /nbn? I use Google duo/facetime almost everyday as well and have a security camera. Plus stream YouTube /Netflix /disney+ everyday
@OzBoganYeah: Depends on what's causing the dropouts. If it's from your NBN connection itself, this wouldn't help. But if it's your router that's the problem it might.
In addition to what jugsy said, I reckon it's for those who have a gigabit internet connection (which won't be many of us in Australia, I presume) and/or you do device-to-device transfers on the local network (e.g. phone-to-computer file transfer) where you can benefit from the higher speed. For internet browsing on internet connections less than 100 Mbps (again, I presume most people), there's no real advantage.
I'm on a gigabit connection via HFC as Aussie Broadband were offering a free month. It would be useful to me even though we're happy with 50/20.
Thanks very much for pointing this out, was about to buy!
Can you use a landline/VoIP phone with these?
You need a separate telephone hub connected to its Ethernet port
ATA (the telephone hub mentioned above) can be had for $50 to $100 at CrazyTel delivered.
That was the cheapest when I looked widely a few weeks ago.
@brisdaz: I’d recommend the 2 port for 3 dollars more, $72.
@hashtagbargain: Why? Most residential customer's don't need a second port.
I can see how it could be beneficial to have simultaneous calls for long hold (30+ minutes) times with companies but it seems to be too much trouble to set-up.
I guess $3 isn't that much though. Is there case studies or easy to use instructions that lay out the benefits without thinking?
I can't tell from your question if you've ever used voip before. If you haven't, as well as having voip hardware, you'll also need to sign up with a voip provider, and choose a call plan.
Reply back if you need more information.
Can i connect this to the existing modem I have (Exetel) and the TP Mesh system I bought last week to add additional internet black spots in my house & yard ?
Black spots lmao!?
You mean hot spots?
Nah you don't use the Tenda Nova and TP-Link Deco together. Purchase more Deco's to extend the Wi-Fi range.
Better with gigabit but depends how much data is flowing through. If for videos and file transfers then gigabit is theoretically 10x faster assuming your devices are gigabit capable as well.
I have a Vodafone router that doesn't reach to one end of the house. I was looking to buy a range extender and then saw mention of it dropping the speed in other areas of the house and to go with s mesh system. Is this suitable? Only use wifi items ie ps5, phones, firestick, chromecast…
Not sure why it says In 6 days on the title.
I can go and buy at this price now. And this price is valid for 6 days.
