Please participate in the previews while you still can!

The 2001 era Return to Castle Wolfenstein FPS game has just been made available for Xbox Insiders on Windows PC, joining the current set of Bethesda/ZeniMax IP games that were recently made available via the Xbox Insider Preview initiative, as per Wakrak's earlier deal post (Heretic, HeXen, HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, The Elder Scrolls: Arena, Quake Champions, Quake 4, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Wolfenstein 3D) and my previous follow-up post (An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard):

Xbox Insiders on Windows PC are invited to preview Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Originally released in 2001, Return to Castle Wolfenstein takes place where World War II rages and nations fall. SS head Himmler has Hitler’s full backing to twist science and the occult into an army capable of annihilating the Allies once and for all. Battling alone, you’re on an intense mission to pierce the black heart of the Third Reich and stop Himmler — or die trying.

Check out the Xbox Insider Hub on Windows PC to join the preview today! This preview is an integral part of bringing the game to Windows PC, and we are delighted that you’ll be a part of it!

  • NOTE: This preview is only available on Windows PC.

  • NOTE: Please ensure you are signed into the Microsoft Store with the same account you used to register for the flight in the Xbox Insider Hub app.

  • Got this on steam from way back. Not sure why they need a insider version

    • I'm copy pasting this from Wakrak's post, that provides explanation as to why they're doing this for certain classic/older games

For those unaware: the reason for this is that to be in GamePass you need to be in the Windows Store (Alan Wake only hit PC GamePass after Remedy did the same)
They have to "port" them to the Windows Store since they're such old games that don't run on modern PC's without major workarounds, emulators or even virtual machines in some cases.

But yeah, if you already have a copy of RtCW on Steam or GOG etc., there's no need to go through this.

      • I see.

Well for anyone wondering, the steam version plays exactly the same as the windows store version.

  • Oh to be 16 again

  • What's the Wolfenstein game with a ghost like Nazi on the cover and you can't buy it anywhere anymore?

    • I'm guessing you are referring to the 2009 game titled Wolfenstein ?

      • That's the one. I love that game but you can't buy it anywhere

  • Are these games to keep?

Shows as many leaving the Hub on 11th Aug incl Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I installed it to grab the files required to sideload onto Oculus 2 which saves buying the game.

    • The Xbox Insider blog post for Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Preview has been updated with an August 11th deadline - but there's been no updates/edits that mention August 11th on the Return to Castle Wolfenstein Preview blog post, as I type this …

But yeah, if anyone confirms that Return to Castle Wolfenstein Preview is no longer being made available via Xbox Insider Hub after today (August 11th), feel free to click the Expire button on this post to accurately mark it as Expired.

It shows in "announcements" on the Xbox Hub App.
Bethesta titles leaving the Xbox Insider Program

Regardless. Your post about the Insider Hub is still good for other games.

        • Thanks for the screenshot - OK, that looks like a definitive announcement about a whole bunch of Bethesda games being delisted from the Xbox Insider Hub pretty soon (Thursday August 11th (USA timezone)

I'll mark this deal post to say that this 'deal' (specifically for Return to Castle Wolfenstein) is going to expire sometime tomorrow August 12th (Australian timezone) - DONE

@slipkord: Yeah, they have all disappeared now.
Also: The installed games now fail to run on PC and errors as "No longer available in your account".
The files are still on the PC and moved to C:\XboxGames\ Game Name. Handy if one wanted any of the files.
