@I Smell Pennies: Sorry, I should have specified, i just presumed that people knew that it was the emails part of notifications we were talking about.

Yeah the notifications dont bother me on their own, its the emails that clog up my ozbargain email folder. It gets hard to sift through them all at times. I should perhaps look into setting up some advanced rules to forward this thread into a totally separate folder from the normal ozbargain folder. When i first subscribed to this thread (only top level and replies to my comments), It was manageable but definitely has gotten to the point now where i dont even look at the emails at times but rather just go to the thread and scroll backwards but i guess then it sort of defeats the purpose of the emails which i was using to let me know whats been posted recently.

                  • +2

@lonewolf: I definitely wouldn't set email notifications for this thread - and if I did I'd definitely put an automatic filter label on them to go to a quiet inbox.

Why not just use in-built ozb/chrome notifications for it though?

I only have specific keywords hit my email, for if I'm looking for a certain item.

                    • @snoopydoop: I have only ever used email notifications for ozbargain. How does the chrome notifications work? It pops up on your phone? Does it keep all notifications or does it overwrite?

I have a system for the email notifications where I look at them for in between website visits and then once or twice a day when I have time I go on ozbargain I catch up to where I left off previously and then delete all the emails barring any ones I want to keep for reminders etc later on.

                      • @lonewolf: In the notification settings, there's an option for "site notifications" or something you can activate.

Then on chrome (android at least), you click the lock on ozbargain.com and enable permissions for notifications. I'm sure it's similar for iPhone but I'm unfamiliar.

It does overwrite notifications per thread, so if lots of people post here you just click it once and scroll up to see what you've missed.

    • +2

If you're sitting here all day waiting for notifications, you need to do something better with your life

      I feel attacked.

On a serious note, I'm just here for the pantry deals. I don't think I've ever bought anything from warehouse that isn't a food related item. My friends and I are still drinking expired coconut water.

Thanks. Yes you posted them at 1112am with expiry 28/8/23, someone said they were out of stock at 1114am.

Now they are in stock again hours later, with 2 listings, expiry 28/8/23 and a later one 13/11/23.

I am not sure if you were indicating that they were in stock all this time or that we should reply to the previous comment to say back in stock? That is not the case, as people have top level comments only as notifications, as per previous discussion.

I think we should create new comments, rather than replies, for items back in stock (some time later), for this reason.

Yes this is a top level comment, deal with it, I'm making a point…

Whoever is negging the previous comments, give it a break. This site wouldn't be the site it is without contributors.

Cut it out or man up and say something.

Neg me all you want, water off a ducks back by this many comments, but some people take the negativity harder.

    • +5

Gotta put some of them in the same post. Some of them are 2 minutes apart. We just had a whole discussion about this, today, on this very page.

      • -2

With no rules actually made on the topic, just suggestions.

Neg voting contributions only stops others from wanting to contribute. Nothing beneficial comes from it.

At the same time I am not going to tell members, who are taking time out of their day sharing things with others, what to do.

        • +6

I didn't downvote and I don't think you need rules for it either, but we've just discussed this. It's annoying to some people, and it doesn't make it harder for the poster to just combine a few in the one post.

I've done this before, sure, but now I know it annoys people so I'll try not to do it anymore. I don't think it's too much to ask…

          • +1

@ozbs25: I didn't downvote anything either but I presume the ones who do may feel if the moderator is going through and combining posts to make things better / easier for some.

Then perhaps the neggers don't feel rules are required to have some courtesy and make it easier on Hamza as well as perhaps they feel it may come across as being done out of spite or on purpose to make some point.

    • +8

Cut it out or man up and say something.

But people have said something, but @thehairpolice continued to do whatever they want. I kindly asked them to combine and they just straight out ignored me. They said they would follow what OP/moderator but they obviously have not. People only get 5 negs a day so clearly people want the posts merged if it is within 10 or 20 minutes and no one has replied.

I didn't neg as I already ran out of my negs from the discussion earlier.

      • +1

+1 thehairpolice keeps spamming the thread multiple times a day, the least they could do would be to post deals with a significant stock volume (or ones that would appeal to a broader audience, as you can't exactly filter out obscure items)

        • +4

First of all, what did you contribute here so far? This is a low-quantity thread, so your demands only posting items with “significant stock” are not valid! Sharing a deal is not spamming.

          • +6

@Thrifty Dan: it is when 750+ people who subscribed to notifications get pinged every time
[and yes I did contribute to this thread, and on ozbargain itself, I stopped posting deals here as my deals were too niche for this thread (I posted a mechanical pencil lead deal) and I realised people didn't subscribe to this thread for obscure goods]
by "significant stock volume" I meant combining your posts like hamza23 does (so in total there'd be a lot of units, with the quanity that you want to post, and plus, there won't be constant notifications every 5-10 minutes to the 750+ OzBargainers currently subscribed to the thread.)
            My bad I should've elaborated

            • @DogeConomy: I wouldnt worry about having to defend yourself against questions like that , Its hard for anyone to know how much someone else contributes to a forum as there are many other ways to contribute or to be a good member. From positive promotion of it to others externally, to helping people on the forums, to posting extra strategies or tactics to get further discounts in the comments section of a thread or coupons or similar items being sold at similar prices etc, to providing feedback and assistance to helping it grow and improve, and really even just being cordial and polite to other members and providing a good experience for them so they keep coming back and they also speak highly of the forum. Its not just any one criteria.

I remember there was a discussion about this on another forum (that is about a certain hobby but also over time grew a large classifieds section and had sponsors / donations from Retail stores to buyers and sellers. The argument started about donations and who has donated more etc and argument was the sellers had until really the fact is, the people who were buyers and also bought from the sponsors meant the sponsors kept coming back and donating even more as well as made the sellers donate since they were getting to sell their products. So its easy to look at one stat but in reality in situations like this, there are many stats combined that make a forum like this work so well.

Reminds me of a work situation where with change of management, the new manager only valued ticket no.s and time arrival and departure of his staff. So some staff would come into work earlier but then go for their coffee, their breakfast, their multiple smoke breaks and their extended toiletary requirements during work while others would have their coffee, breakfast and toiletary requirements at home before coming into work 30 minutes later. Time spent and quality of tickets done were much better with the latter, but the former looked better on the things the manager seemed to value.

          • +8

            @Thrifty Dan:

Sharing a deal is not spamming.

Everyone’s effort and contribution is appreciated.
But the manner of how you share some of these deals may seem spamming.

For example, you posted 2 deals, 3 minutes apart for the same product as highlighted here by admin @hamza23

I believe @Thehairpolice should keep posting deals, but consider following @hamza23’s style of combining multiple deals in one post, or editing the last post to add more products.

          • +8

@Thrifty Dan: Here's a good example where you've spammed over 20 posts in a row within a couple of minutes. That could have easily been combined into a couple of posts.

          • +3

@Thrifty Dan: You keep posting how you like. I fail to see how you have the time to keep doing it and im pretty sure your have saved others money so who gives a toss what anyone says! Its not like you are a criminal.

            • +6

@Motek Benzona: Another one checking in to say yeah its a bit spammy. I have started to unintentionally ignore notifications for this thread because of this spam.. its really unnecessary to be posting two different flavours of the same product in two separate comments, as an example. Like everyone has said, the contribution is appreciated regardless, but posting so frequently often has a counterproductive effect on how people respond to this thread, it makes sense to combine pantry items together, or at the bare minimum if its the same product..

          • -4

            @Thrifty Dan: @Thehairpolice thanks for posting 👌

The more deals the better as far as I'm concerned 👌

            It's annoying to some people,

Then why are they here ? If a thread is annoying you, then don't be in it 😁

      • +2

Also, if they want to see every post made by @Leho's telegram bot, they can always just follow the bot 😅

        • What is that?

        • +1

          Or yours 😉

    • I tend towards the individual posts because it enables people to comment on particular items and enable individual posts to be edited once they go out of stock. I only have browser notifications enabled and OzBargain only shows me the latest notification from the thread.

If posts are being edited does that mean I won't receive a notification? I might not be interested in coffee capsules, but yes to coffee beans.

One option would be to batch sending of emails (every 15 minutes?). For a low stock thread the value of email subscriptions might be lower, because by the time an email is received the item is likely sold out.

I got these at Costco thinking it would make a great snack for the kids. They were disgusting, my toddler who loves sweets refused to eat it after a bite. Tastes overwhelmingly artificial, lucky I could return it lol.

      • +1

Aren’t they like a protein ball? Not for kids really.
Most high protein type stuff I think tastes awful.

        • [LIFE HACK ALERT!] Whether you're a busy parent, gym junkie, need a lunchbox filler or a healthier choice of snacks & sweets- here's your solution! They're individually wrapped so stay fresh and can be thrown in your bag without making a mess

I read nut butter ball, all natural ingredients, no preservatives blabla and thought it sounded good. And the Costco rep post hell hyped it up as well.

    • Considering the first ingredient is Brown Rice Syrup and the ingredients also include agave syrup I doubt this is low sugar as shown by 30.5g of sugar per 100g.
Only 10.4g of protein per 100g so not really high protein
46.8g of carbohydrate per 100g doesn't make it low carb.

I'm not seeing the health benefits.
