Complementary services for visitors who may need them. Don't ruin it out of petty greed.

Tough crowd, comments miss a tongue in cheek emoji.

What you on about? This country runs on greed.

I'd imagine the telcos stock the stand and don't care who uses them. They're not doing it from the goodness of their heart, they're doing it because it makes them money.

  • Thanks OP! Are there any Boost sim? It'd be handy for this other deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716114

    • I would assume only the SIM they send would work for that deal, no?

      • ah, yes… you make a good point!

For some reason, I was mistakenly thinking that Boost deal was going to issue a promo/activation code to apply onto the sim card. The thought process of picking up a free $2 sim was because there were a few people in the previous Boost posts who had trouble receiving their sim card, so I thought this might be able to address the matter.

We've reached a new low. Taking $2 SIMS from a hotel you're not staying at that's kind enough to provide them to international travellers. Aren't most of these delivered for free?

    • +3

In addition, most of them need a recharge to be activated.

    • +2

      The hotel don't provide these!
These are provided to attract new customers to telcos - to pay for a phone service on their arrival.
It's purely to make money for the telcos who provide them free.

Nothing new here. Its been a Deal or commented on in the past.

    • limited to 1 sim per address per month i think (I lost one of the $30 free sim promos because of this limitation - as i got one of the stupid $2 sims from them earlier)

And they dont really respond when you need them to (aka when good deal is on) and you can also forget using Australia post parcel collect/locker etc. with them. IMO they are quite close to useless

  • +6

A ton of hotels have these anyway. Don’t see any reason to rush out to grab these? You still have to activate them with either prepaid or postpaid plans. Put your energy into finding a good value phone plan.

  • +10

These no credit sims are pretty much worthless anyway, anyone needing them will have to recharge at full price, a heavily discounted prepaid pack offers much better value for money. Some rare occasions you might need it for throwaway number but many providers force you to recharge upon activation sơ đồ your own research before picking which one to go with.

    • -3

I don’t understand what people mean by “do your own research”. Does this mean to be ignorant of all existing research done by others? Do we ignore what you said too?

      • He said "sơ đồ" it means maps lol

    • +1

They’re definitely a convenience for international arrivals. Wish more international hotels had something like this.

  • i wonder what the free opal gift is

  • oz bargain out soon

  • There used to be a stand at international airport ( P7 Parking ) .

    • -1

I'm going there now. Driving from blue mountains ⛰

  • -2

You can use one of these as a burner phone number for receiving SMS, no? And you don't have to provide ID. Wish I lived in NSW

  • I believe they removed this brochure stand. I cannot find it there any more. Also it's no longer Novotel but Sydney Central Hotel by Ascott. It was handy to get a few spare free prepaid sim starter packs eg. Telstra and amaysim.
