You might get lucky at a Chinese grocer.
There's one in Sydney, Hornsby, that sells the genuine shichimi togarashi catering refill pack, although not for retail sale for about ~$10
do you happen to have one in your pantry? Can you take a picture of it?
what the store name you mentioned?
Tonyon supermarket on the Odeon cinema side of Hornsby.
@Butterfly Gocha: got it, thanks
Yeah have some of that Aldi togarashi spice, it's ok for the price, they have it there all the time. Like the Japanese ones but small and don't last that long.
That kewpie is unhealthy stuff (as is most Mayo) but may look at the ginger, nori probably cheaper in a 100 sheet pack from Asian supermarket but a bigger outlay. May get some anyway.

Looks like a new permanent line?
This stuff is so good, nothing better to dip your karaage in.
I think its just the weekly special to go along with the other sushi/ramen items on sale
Somehow I thought 'your karaage' was a metaphor there , for a moment.
The water wipes are great! Single pack are $2.69.
I remember an amazing sauce made by Dan Hong that he called "comeback sauce". Then I found the recipe and was surprised how simple it is: Kewpie mayo, maggi liquid seasoning & sriracha. But a word of warning, once made that stuff is highly addictive.
are there specific ratios required or mix to taste?
I think I remember seeing it in a Dan Hong cook book and also eating it at Papi Chulo. I don't remember the exact ratios but as there are only 3 ingredients it's easy enough to figure out. If you like it salty put more liquid seasoning, if you like it hot add more sriracha etc.
But if you're gonna make me guess to post my first online recipe:
Adjust to taste, but I never used measurements =)
What kind of flavour does the "liquid seasoning" add? I always make Sriracha-Kewpie sauce and wouldn't mind trying a twist, but the ingredients are essentials water, salt, sugar, and "Flavour".
@honest-immortal: if you have ever had a Banh Mi that background flavour is the maggi sauce. Its like a meatier version of soy sauce
@DJR9000: Yum. I'll give it a go.
Found it in his cook book but interestingly he doesn't call it 'comeback sauce'. He must have called it that at another point.
this is the stuff made in thailand fwiw
yup, get the real stuff made in japan. it tastes different
Afaik the Japanese one isn't sold here?
I thought it wasn't allowed here (Japanese made). Too much egg, food safety something something.
Interesting rubbish like mcdonalds is ok but something from japan (with some of the healthiest people on this planet) is banned…
Yes, I read this thousand times and cannot comprehend how "too much egg" (or whatever, really) is ban under food safety.
Or is it the establishment doesn't want us to taste real tasty mayonnaise so the locally made garbage will sell instead?
Amazed Costco is allowed to sell the otherwise known as US made Hellman's Mayonnaise.
Ichiba junction sells 1kg of Japanese made off-brand kewpie for $7.90. Highly recommend

Yeah I buy this also.
For years I was calling it Ichiban Junction. haha
I like the products there but their pickup service on Saturdays is a pain. Maybe it's better on weekdays.
I made the mistake of ordering 20 packets of udon there, it's all loose. I now order 30 as it comes in a box of 30.
Wouldn't recommend the nori sheets from ALDI, worst tasting out of any I've ever had.
I like the price of the shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven spice / red pepper mix) at $3 for 70g. You can usually get the genuine Japanese ones for about the same price but it’s only in 18g bottles.
