Well, not the cheapest or freshest. But, it's winter time alternative.

Sometimes they restock during the day or just before closing, it seems. Gotta get lucky
Yeah. It's a matter of luck.
The new meaning of "getting lucky".
@dust: The only meaning of getting lucky when you're married
@Mr Frodo: sounds like other way around…
Thursday mornings are always frozen restock. Usually any other day it will be after midday
And yes we are running very low on frozen veggies especially broccoli
tell me all your secrets
Frozen veges is running low in many places, since fresh is too pricey these days
i went yesterday and was amazed the frozen veggie freezer was cleared out
I came to say don’t bother, never see any stock
Nice to know not just a bit of bad luck for my store on my shopping run today. Frozen veg and spud products cleaned out at my Aldi and Woolies.
Mine to, zero veg in stock
ALDI's stocking is absolutely atrocious. Don't even bother looking for this.
Not a bargain if you can't actually buy it IMO.
Picked some up today ¯_(ツ)_/¯ regional SEQ though, has it's benefits I guess.
It's Saturday, of course there's nothing left. Everyone is out.
I usually go to ALDI Wednesday of Thursday around lunchtime, empty and full of stock.I picked these up on Wednesday around 11am.
Is this the normal price or discounted?
discounted, normal price $2.39.
$3.20 @ Coles now.
If it’s any consolation the Coles one is Aussie and generally in stock https://shop.coles.com.au/a/the-pines/product/coles-broccoli… I find it to be really good too. Even my kid will eat it.
@morse: Yeah I've tried all sorts of brands of frozen broccoli and Coles is by far the best. Can't understand how some of the other brands can manage to find the toughest and bitterest florets to put in their product. Closest I've come in years to actually throwing away what would otherwise be perfectly good food.
Does this go well with their cheeses?
only government cheese.
frozen veg are as close to fresh as you'll get if your budgeting
its snap frozen - its good shit, dont turn your nose up at it
I love a frozen corn and pea mix heated up with some melted butter stirred through
Indeed.
Frozen veg is almost as nutritious as fresh, but lasts longer and is often cheaper
And better for the environment
How so? Reduced food waste?
@dajackal: I think he/she might refer to…
its good shit
Unless "fresh" means "from my back yard", frozen can be more nutritious than fresh. It's snap frozen within hours of picking. "Fresh" produce is trucked around / sitting in docks / on the shelf for days.
what about 'freshness' of frozen fruits (that was shipped all the way from chile etc.) ??
@capslock janitor: it gets snap frozen also, and hopefully doesn't defrost on the way here.
Unless you're buying from a farmers market the day it's been picked, snap frozen will be more nutritious. I can't remember the name of the studies, but it was something like 70% of the fruit and vegetables tested, frozen had more antioxidents vs fruit & vege that had been picked and refrigerated for 3 days. Most fruit and veges will have travelled for more than 3 days. There is something about boiling frozen vegetables being not optimal though, as the nutrients leach out into the water, so best to steam/bake/zap I guess.
I was at a local famers market today and it was $12+/kg mostly stem.
.
Farmers market today $2 per mid size Lebanese cucumber.
Ok, but that's not broccoli
Cows are smarter than computers confirmed.
@pennypincher98: I will gladlywelcome our new bovine overlords.
Time to go continental
Been looking for frozen broccoli every week for the past 6 weeks at my Aldi. They never have it, only the mixed vegetable bag.
Will try this out. Made the mistake of getting the Bell farms frozen broccoli from woolies a couple weeks ago, was browned in places. Looked like it had been allowed to thaw & re-freeze during shipping.
Yes, the woollie's Bell Farms is awful, smell like spoiled one.
It is truly ghastly
Broccoli is a winter vegetable. So how come its alternative as it's already winter?
Alternative to the high prices for fresh currently.
What's everyone's best way of cooking frozen broccoli? Microwaving it from frozen is not great.
I've defrosted on the counter over a few hours and stir fried which was okay.
Was taught only to blanch frozen veggies.
Steamed on the stove top
Same here.
I've found stir fry is the tastiest way and comes out the least mushy, and easy to add flavour while stirring in the pan with a variety of sauces

Got a tutorial?
I've recently harvested some broccolini at home. But was decimated early on with caterpillars/moths and lucky to get any at all.
Can see why couple dollars for a frozen bag vege is great for most people.Bunnings seedlings are probably as bare as grocery isles these days too…
Works best to mix in a shake. Blend and drink
3.78 a kg a lot cheaper than fresh .
No(less) stem as well if you don't like that bit.
I eat it all leaves as well
Rather pay $3.20 for the Aussie grown one from Coles/WW
Where are these grown?
Packed in France from imported ingredients
Dunno, probably eastern europe.
anywhere
They used to be grown in New Zealand but are now of "unknown origin". I observed a drop in the quality of the product, several of the broccoli florets had brown stems. I will be avoiding them until they clarify the origin of their product.
@happydragon: did you submit a formal concern?
I went to school with a guy called Brock. It was short for Broccoli
I used to date Peter Brocks daughters best friend. Lol
Really? Or is that a…brocko-lie?
Lol, no joke I'm serious. Was about 20 years ago. Her name was Julie.
@mckayver: Did she change her name after you broke up?
@omblygombly: they were 5?
This is a great product, if you can find it. I used to buy it but haven’t seen it for months.
I might chuck some from the back corner of the freezer on the classifieds for a good price :)
Serious question, where on the east coast is broccoli grown?
I know QLD has been impacted by floods, but I wouldn't have thought growing a winter veg would be QLD's speciality? In Woolies here in Perth, brocolli is $1.95 a head. Lettuce are $3.90 each. They both cost even less at independent greengrocers. We aren't connected to the national power grid and we have more than enough natural gas to go around.
Don't move here though, we're full.
Plenty of broccoli farms near Werribee in vic
Just watched a report on the ABC a few days ago and they said that in Winter most broccoli is grown in Queensland, then gradually as the temperature increases coming into Summer it is grown in N.S.W, Victoria.
Shhhh don't tell them… Perth is still that shithole like Adelaide. No one likes them ;)
Mmm, that's why your all racing over to get a well paid mining job.
Any idea where it is sourced?
China
But china doesn't have broccoli
So vague. I hate the labelling.
Same for Aldi's "made in NZ" which just means packed in NZ from imported vegYuck
I don't trust Aldi for quality
Woolworths is $2 for 500grams bags or 1.95 per brocolli. Sometimes some big ones in.
I found Woolworths frozen broccoli to tasty very woody and has lots more stalk pieces in each bag than Coles.
It’s $3.20 at my Woolies?
Bell farms
Good luck finding any frozen vegetables. Went to 2 Aldi's today and the freezers had none of this stuff left. No vegetables at all.
