I wonder if it ever sold for that RRP. I remember buying it for $120 if I remember correctly. MX Brown keys. Nicely built, except that compared to rest of the keys, Esc key is a bit loose and keycap comes off easily, not sure why though it may well be my own fault by pulling it off too harshly.

how does this compare to similar keyboards in this price?
and are those other keyboards better?

    e.g.
    Keychron
    razer
    others?

    • -2

I would honestly go for a board off AliExpress or Amazon that's able to hotswap; Cherry MX Browns pale in comparison to others in terms of tactility. Also means you can't mod the keyboard easily to make it sound/feel better.

      • got a link?

Cherry MX Browns pale in comparison to others in terms of tactility

        which others you talking about?
also isn't MX browns middle ground between tactile vs noise..

Also means you can't mod the keyboard easily to make it sound/feel better.

what do you mean by can't mod it easily?
don't you just replace the switches like any other mech keyboards?

        • +2

MX Browns are a middle ground between linear and clicky switches, but there are more tactile switches out there (e.g. Pandas, Dragon Fruits, etc.).

You can not easily replace the switches of this keyboard. These keyboard requires you to manually resolder any new switches you want to put in, as opposed to being able to "hot-swap" them (i.e. just shove the switch in the socket).

          Hope this helps!

    • I had one of these and sold it for a wireless Razer one. I prefer the wrist mat on the Razer. Also the cable on the dell is really long and chunky which was annoying because I connected my keyboard to my screen so the cables were all on my desk and whatever I did to cable manage the keyboard didn't really work because the chunk of the cable meant it was hard to bend. The RGB control on the Razer is also better there's a community of people on Reddit who create designs and upload them for free.

What I do miss is the media volume controls that are better on the Dell keyboard which I use more than I would have thought given I was using teams for work a lot. I also think the click of the keys on the dell is slightly less noisy and a better compromise compared with the very clicky Razer.

      • do you have link for razer one you bought?
how is wireless like for gaming etc (input lag etc)
        and battery life?

what type of switches is in the razer that you bought or recommend?

What I do miss is the media volume controls that are better on the Dell keyboard

what is different about the dell vs the razer one?

        • There's a bit of lag. It's more annoying for work because it tends to double type letters which because I code can create the most annoying bugs.

I got a Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro green switch (work paid for it). The dell rolls like a mouse wheel the Razer is perpendicular and sometimes it doesn't register.

Battery life is a couple of weeks depending on how bright I have the backlights. It charges via USB-c so same as my phone.

    Don't waste your munayy

  • My left CTRL key broke on my 510K but I was able to glue it back together and I swapped it with the other one. Haven't run into any other issues. I've used mine a lot for over two years.

    • that's pretty poor quality if the keycap broke.

are the key caps are thin / poorly made?
or do you hit that key quite hard alot?

      • I don't think think I hit the keys hard. Maybe I don't always press that key directly in the centre and it caused it to break? I don't know.

The socket? part that the stem fits into under keycap split in half. I just glued it back together and it seems fine. I probably didn't need to swap it but since there are two CTRL keys and I never use the other one I thought why not.

  • is this noisy?

    • These are brown switches, so no audible click like blue switches but they can be quite loud if you're one to fully bottom out each press. Same with at switch, really, but this won't make any loud clicky noise.

  • This looks like wired, are there any wireless versions also available? I am after a tenkeyless wireless mechanical keyboard.

    • -1

I am after a tenkeyless wireless mechanical keyboard.

Are you specifically looking for a brand name one or just a wireless tenkeyless in general? Lots of options on AliExpress, Amazon, etc., all cheaper than this too.

      • My requirement is tenkeyless, wireless, mechanical (with Cherry MX brown) and hot swapable. Don't care about brand name.

        • There aren't too many that are tenkeyless, wireless and hotswappable, but there are lots of wireless, hotswappable 60% boards. Some here. Plenty of other brands besides Royal Kludge, just have to dig a bit.

Keychron boards aren't a bad option if you're willing to dish out a bit more money.

27,331 of these sold in 24 hours on Ebay.

    • Where did you get that number from?

      • -1

What do you think? How about click on the deal to get into EBay with the listing info?

        • I clicked the link earlier and it only said 255 sold. Now it doesn't have it anywhere. Oh well….. i could be seeing things

          • +1

@teddiebear: I can confirm I saw a similar number to DarkOz's like "26k sold" earlier too he's not trolling. It's probably a ebay glitch.

            • @anai: Yeah i wasn't having a dig, i couldn't see that number anywhere on the page.
So people don't wanna pay that silly rrp mentioned… it's worth it on 'special' (should be the special price at all times)

  • +1

I wonder how many people bought this at full rrp?? No keyboard is worth that much imho. I know mountain is overpriced too. At this price however, it's worth a buy.
Should put this under the 'computers' tab…. you'd get more upvotes lol

  • which is better
this key board or this one also same price?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Razer-AU-BlackWidow-Mechanical-RZ0…

    • The Razer one will be a lot louder and clickier, but seems to be missing dedicated volume control buttons like on the AW, so frie depends on what you're after.

    • +3

I'd prefer this one over the Razer one solely because I can't stand the noise of Razer's green switches, but at this price points I'd highly recommend the Akko3098DS for $119 bucks at PC Case Gear.

It's very similar to the keyboard I currently use for productivity (3098B), and has switches which I prefer over Cherry ones, as well as being hot-swappable. Unlike the other two keyboards, the stabilizers also aren't horseshit.

It has less frills, but in terms of build quality and typing/gaming experience, it's incomparable to the two keyboards you've mentioned.

Note that the 3098DS comes with variants with pink switches (linear), oranges (light tactile), and blues (heavier tactile). None of them are clicky.

    • i've got the tkl version of the razer you linked. been using it since november last year and still going strong. no problems with keys not registering. razer software seems to be quite the PITA, but i didn't install it since i don't use it for gaming and don't need any fancy rgb stuff.

  • Corsair k68 etc way better quality than this

  • Perfect keyboard for writing ozBargain comments.

Thanks OP. Bought as a spare to my logitech g903
