Ooh a subscription fee for something you've already paid for.

    • Will this work without any subscription at all?

      • Yes, fitbits work without premium. I think the premium give you more insights in your sleep and exercises.

Jesus. Just paid this much for a xiaomi watch and got much more.

    • +3

Problem with xiaomi watches is they're not using an open standard; and they need their app on your phone to do almost anything; you can't just use an app of your choice (like Gadget Bridge).

Fitbit probably is too; but they dont have such a sketchy history.

I don't think the fitbits are any more accurate than the rest. I've have had 4 different fitbits over time and they were all about the same as the band 7 that I have just acquired…none of them are especially accurate on sleep tracking and the Charge 5 HRV was so inaccurate I should have been dead however my VO2 max is well above average for my age according to the same band…go figure.

      • the mi fitness app is fine, and it connects fine to whatever media player app is running. the screen is arguably is the most crucial feature of a smartwatch, and these days there aren't many reasons to not get amoled

Last time I used the Mi Fitness app, was about 2 years ago and it phoned home with encrypted data veeeeeery often.

Are you sure its fine now? Did they ever manage to decrypt what it was taking from the phone?

@MasterScythe: No idea. If i was worried about my privacy, i wouldn't use a smartphone or pc at all.

            • @belongsinforums: I dont understand your conversation sorry;
when I mentioned their sketchy history, you claimed the app was now fine, but now, know no details about how said sketchy history was resolved?

unrelated, my smartphone and PC dont have telemetry to anyone. Why not just use tools that aren't likely spyware? My phone often has things like contracts or account details I dont want stolen in it.

    • I have this Fitbit and the mi band 6. I wore them side by side (well, one on each wrist) for a few weeks to decide which one I preferred. Ended up sticking with the Fitbit. Although the mi band looks better on paper, the software and accuracy is much much better on the Fitbit. Sleep tracking is particularly bad on the mi band. It would regularly think I went to bed in the evening when I was actually just watching TV. Fitbit didn’t have this problem.

      • Mi band is half this price. The smartwatches are about $90

        • I think Fitbit sleep tracking is one of the best around.

This the standard inspire 2 deal since last year (even with sub - which I challenge anyone to actually find the real benefit to pay for it)

  • Good to give to 8 yo kid? I suspect it will work even if not connected to a phone?

As I have 2 kids, can I connect 2 of them to a same phone? The kids have no phone yet

    Thanks

    • +1

AFAIK you only need a phone/pc to initially set up an account and can add more than one device on an account. You only use your pc/phone to sync the devices, in theory you can use them offline indefinitely if you wish, They will still record track and record data

    • While a lot more money than this; id be tempted to give my kids a spacetalk watch, over a fitbit.

      • Curious about this comment, any reason you prefer spacetalk? Thanks

        • +1

because the features they have are actually useful for kids, without phones.

providing a way to contact mum or dad without the added worry of strolling off the track toward social media and open internet.
