Your last deal didn't go well, at least you're "trying" to "offer a deal" this time…but you really should read the posting guidelines so you don't get reported.

Don't know about other states, but in QLD the Public Trustee will make you a will for free https://pt.qld.gov.au/contact/contact-us/book-an-appointment

    • Doesn't seem to be the same deal in NSW.

    • Don't ever use the public trustee to make your Will. Your family will be stuck with a massive bill. Look at the fees the public trustee charges. It's taken out of your estate upon your death and your family will lose a lot of your money that goes to the PT doing essentially nothing!

  • Don't leave your family open to costly court actions and ensure that your wishes are carried out.

Just noting that having a lawyer prepare your will doesn't prevent court action or ensure your wishes are carried out, it will just (should) lessen the chance of it happening/not happening.

That's why their footnote says don't listen to anything we say:

By using this site you agree not to use Quick Laws as legal advice or representation for any purpose. Quick Laws is not a law firm.

  • How is this better then the envelope one from the post office?

    • I wouldn't trust a post office to help write your Will.

While a Will is better than having nothing in place, proper estate planning will ensure all checks and balances (Wills are only 1 part of estate planning). Also, as PainToad pointed out, you could get it for free or significantly cheaper. For e.g. in VIC, State Trustees (governed by the State Government) will do an online Will for $25. Even at full price, they're cheaper than this 'deal'

    • Amen to that! Most don't appreciate the importance of estate planning as opposed to having a 'basic will' in place.

So, this is the equivalent of asking some guy down the pub to write your will for you for $50. There's nothing on the site indicating that they're any better qualified than that, or that they have any professional indemnity insurance if they mess it up. It's just one or more people taking a crack at what they think a will might look like, charging you money for their guesswork, and then hoping the disclaimer at the bottom will stop them getting sued.

Also, I don't think that disclaimer works when you've got a link on the site claiming you're offering "legal how to guides".

  • "QuickLaws" (ps: not a lawyer)

There surely has to be a law about making yourself out to look like lawyers and giiving the impression that you are legal professionals when you are not and then hiding that in the fine print.

Quick Laws is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

Pretty sure that distributing legal documents and letting people know what ones they new would constitute some form of legal advice. I am not sure putting "IANAL" on your website is really going to cut it here.

On a vitally important legal document like a will, dont get random companies off the internet to write up something. Hell, if you are going to not use a lawyer, then just grab the nearest crayon and napkin and get to writing.

  • So cheaper elsewhere, inc free in QLD.

  • Website hosted overseas, data can be sent to who knows where.

ABN (registered in NSW) held by an individual, no records of them as a solicitor on NSW databases. Is there a national database for lawyers like doctors have?

  • This is terrible value compared to other options.

I do no appreciate being repeatedly spammed with your junk.

  • For those so interested, I am a Lawyer admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of NSW. However, I stopped practising after noticing the high fees Law firms may charge for simple legal documents. I realised there were many simple legal matters that were capable of being handled by the person making the document and by developments in technology. So I stopped practising and built Quick Laws. Quick Laws aims to use technology to assist people with simple legal matters thereby saving anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars in legal fees. I am still a Solicitor admitted to practise and my name is on the roll of Australian Lawyers, however I do not have a current practising certificate. I hope that explains all your questions and I am happy to answer any questions directed towards my website at https://www.quicklaws.com.au

  • If you can find an online Will using templates made by an Australian Lawyer admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of NSW (not a will kit) for cheaper than $50 each (for couples) $59 for singles then please let me know where and how much as I will reduce my cost to compete with them!
