Into the Breach: Advanced Edition Changelog & Trailer video

The following is the primary change list, but there’s a lot of small bug-fixes and tweaks here and there.

Major Additions

  • 5 New squads & 15 new squad achievements!
  • 7 new Vek, 3 new Psions, & 10 new boss battles!
  • 12 new missions & 3 new bonus mission goals!
  • 4 New pilots & 10 new random pilot abilities!
  • 39 New weapons & equipment!
  • 2 new music tracks from composer Ben Prunty!
  • Even more challenging difficulty mode, Unfair Mode!
  • 7 New Languages! (Arabic, Thai, Swedish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Latin American Spanish)

Other Changes

  • Optional Content Toggles - All of the new content (enemies, pilot skills, etc) other than balance changes are possible to turn off if you would like the base-game content experience.
  • Weapon reactor usage reduced - We wanted to encourage players to immediately try out equipment they find, so we reduced the reactor power to equip most gear.
  • Store Changes - Since you can now instantly equip most weapons without needing an additional reactor core, the reputation cost to purchase weapons has increased by 1 and the store options are limited in the first 2 islands.
  • New weapon mechanic: KO effects - Certain weapons will trigger an additional effect if the primary target is killed by the attack.
  • New tile mechanic: Cracking - Certain weapons will cause the ground to crack. If the tile is damaged again, it will shatter, destroying the tile and anything standing on it!
  • New status effect: Boost - This will increase the next attack’s damage by 1. Highly effective for AoE attacks!
  • Unlocking Squads with Coins Change - The cost of unlocking squads with coins has been reduced to account for the extra squads.

Unfair Mode Tips
This mode is for veterans looking for even more of a challenge but it might require different strategies than you're used to.

  • There will be many more situations where damage is inevitable so it’ll be more important to take losses strategically - depending on the situation, it might be better to lose grid power, sacrifice a pilot, or fail a mission objective.
  • Grid power gains are doubled which means it’s much easier to pull back from the brink of defeat. Don’t give up after a few setbacks.
  • There is a limit to how many Vek can spawn so sometimes it’s more advantageous to leave some weak Vek alive rather than wiping them out early.

Into the Breach: Advanced Edition Patch (v1.2.75) being rolled out for all platforms:

We've got a patch for Into the Breach: Advanced Edition rolling out to all platforms. Some will receive it faster than others due to testing requirements, but hopefully everyone will get these fixes as soon as possible! More information can be seen here: https://old.reddit.com/r/IntoTheBreach/comments/w4gynd/news_…

We've been pushing hotfixes to Steam as we fix critical issues and test those fixes. But we've now rolled out the following patch to all platforms. Steam, GOG, and Epic have the update available immediately, as we have control over those. But other platforms (Switch, iOS, Android, Stadia, etc.) will take anywhere between a day or two to a week or two, with Nintendo generally being the slowest.

Into the Breach: Advanced Edition Patch (v1.2.76) being rolled out for all platforms:

Another patch is rolling out for Into the Breach. This one is less critical, but still clears out some annoying bugs that players are hitting frequently. Full change log here: https://old.reddit.com/r/IntoTheBreach/comments/wb6bgw/news_…

Hello everyone! Everyone should now be fully up to date as the Switch version got the critical patch last night. If you haven't updated on your Switch yet, try to force a manual update, you're looking for it to read 1.2.75 in the main menu bottom right corner. Version 1.2.76 is rolling out starting today. It's a less important patch, trying to clean up some of the most reported bugs. As before, PC stores will get the patch first and then it will make its way to other platforms over the next week.

Looks like the Steam edition also now has the 33% discount.

    • Yep the discount is now visible, it must have happened sometime after I went to sleep - I've updated the post details to reflect and include the Steam store listing's price and discount

Thank you. Saw this post and checked Netflix to confirm its freely downloadable. v1.2.71, and it suggests it has the Advanced Content also

  • +1

Absolute 5/5 game for me - just a masterclass in perfect gameplay, framing of missions, etc, etc… Couldn't be more positive about it

  • +1

Held off on getting the game (on Switch) despite all the positive reviews simply because it looked so basic. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Ended up buying it and completed it - saw post and happily booted it back up to update with additional content.

This is one of the best games ever made, no joke.

For anyone interested a physical switch copy is being released soon. Fangamer are publishing it: https://www.fangamer.com/products/into-the-breach-game-ninte…

    • Correct - more specifically, Fangamer has stated that preorders won't start shipping until October 21st.

In my Steam library of 200+ games, this one is one of eight that have been given the Favourite status. Absolutely fantastic

    • +1

In my GOG library of 200+ games, this is still one of the few I keep regularly going back to, and especially now that the Advanced Edition content has just come out … its going to get even more gameplay hours sucked out of me

… and I say this as someone who hasn't unlocked all the pre-existing Mech squads and Achievements as yet!!

    • +1

Ok, I'll bite. What are the other seven? :)

      • +2

It's a loaded question though - my actual favourite games (Satisfactory, Outer Wilds, Halo) are not actually in my Steam library!

        The current list:
        - FTL
        - Last Call BBS
        - Infinifactory
        - Into The Breach
        - Mini Metro
        - Mini Motorways
        - SHENZHEN I/O
        - Hitman 2 (although I'm playing 3 on Game Pass instead)

As you can see, I'm a big fan of Zachtronics and Subset Games :)

        • +1

          Thanks, very interesting!

        • Thanks for sharing your list!

I find it interesting to see that the very recently released Last Call BBS has made its way into your top 8 favourites already.

I was kinda hoping Last Call BBS would get simultaneously released onto the GOG storefront back on July 5th, but it appears to be on Steam only for the time being…

edit: ooh, it is coming to GOG in the near future as well!

          • +1

@slipkord: I've JUST bought it but being a Zachtronics game I'm not likely to be disappointed.

… Once I actually install it

On a related note, music composer Ben Prunty has a 2018 released Into the Breach Soundtrack album on Bandcamp with MP3, FLAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIFF format options available - priced at US$7.00 (converts to A$11.15 incl. GST).

This is the complete soundtrack for Into the Breach.

Here to represent the apocalypse are various string harmonics, harps, cello, piano, many layers of electric guitar, and some surprises. This was my most challenging work to date, and possibly my most personal. I hope you enjoy this unique take on the end of the world.

Some tracks have been modified slightly for the sake of the album format.

    released February 27, 2018

When asked about the 2 new tracks that Ben Prunty composed for the just-released Advanced Edition update

Will the ost be updated to include the new tracks on Bandcamp? Or will they be released separately like the FTL advanced edition tracks?

    Ben Prunty replied:

I'll do a separate release since it's not practical to update an already released album on platforms outside of bandcamp. I'll be including a lot of bonus content though!

So stay tuned for further news regarding this new upcoming album release …

Ooo played this a while back on PC and enjoyed it, but I don't really game enough on PC to get very far through it.

Will grab the Android one from Netflix and maybe find more time for it there when I'm travelling or something.

    • Not gonna lie, when I first read about Netflix's intentions of building up a Netflix Games presence, and saw their initial batch of Netflix subscriber-exclusive mobile games from November 2021 onwards, I wasn't overly impressed …

… but now that they've got Into the Breach (mobile versions) as a Netflix subscriber-exclusive game on iOS/Android … I have now been paying more attention to other recent Netflix Games announcements (link 1, link 2) about more games being added to their growing catalogue in the near future, e.g.

      • Mahjong Solitaire
      • Before Your Eyes
      • Immortality
      • Wild Things: Animal Adventures
      • Shadow And Bone: Destinies
      • Too Hot To Handle
      • La Casa De Papel: The Game
      • The Queen's Gambit: Chess
      • The Cuphead Show
      • Lucky Luna
      • Desta: The Memories Between
      • Terra Nil
      • Reigns: Three Kingdoms
      • Raji: An Ancient Epic
      • Spiritfarer
      • +1

They also have Shatter Remastered. I played the original version of that on PS3 back in the day. Great little game, kind of a modern update of the old Breakout / Arkanoid kind of games.

  • FTL and Into the Breach game music composer Ben Prunty is currently working on a new and separate Into the Breach: Advanced Edition OST album to be released in the near future (source: Twitter post)

In the meantime, here's a recent interview that Ben Prunty did with NME - a pretty good read and delves into how he and Subset Games approached the composition of music for FTL and Into the Breach

    An excerpt from the interview:

“When the game first released, there did seem to be some surprise among reviewers at the music,” Prunty recollects. “Several people said they couldn’t figure out what genre the soundtrack was, which made me very happy.” And that ties into what he and the team wanted to do: as with FTL, it would have been rote to simply retread old ground. That’s not what Subset is about. “Our goal was essentially the same as it was with FTL: make music that breaks expectations. For FTL, the goal was to avoid Star Wars-esque bombast. For Into the Breach it was to avoid folksy guitar, which is somehow now pop culture’s official music of the apocalypse.”

  • I wish you hadn't posted this deal OP. The game is addictive, but I suck at it. It's a vicious cycle of playing, and rage-quitting for me. :)
